Re: ANNOUNCE: Easy Debian Turbo-Charged Edition!
Qole, this is getting cooler by the day! I was able to install some KDE4 stuff through the Debian repos :D
http://74.170.137.105/maemo/dolphin.png Could you rig an edition of Easy Debian with KDE4 as the default desktop? This is so awesome... |
Installing image file
Does one need to be root when installing the image file? The owner for my tarred image file is user.root and I cannot change it (even as root). Will this matter?

Re: ANNOUNCE: Easy Debian Turbo-Charged Edition!
It shouldn't matter who the owner of the tarred image file is, since you need to untar this file to use it. You may need to become root in order to delete it, however.
EDIT: R-Base... Oh. Math stuff. :p |
Re: ANNOUNCE: Easy Debian Turbo-Charged Edition!
Aisu: I have fatalsaint's repo set up as one of the default repositories. You're probably installing his version of KDE4. But yes, it is very cool. Not exactly fast, but very cool.

Re: ANNOUNCE: Easy Debian Turbo-Charged Edition!
Might wanna change that Qole. Stskeeps took all my packages EXCEPT the KDE4 ones from my repo and put them on packages.trspe.org. Though I think his are in different categories.
The problem with mine is that when you have KDE4 packages in your repo.. and try to install KDE3.. you'll have problems because it wants the KDE3 versions of Kate, Klipper, etc.. and apt will want to install the "latest" Kate.. which is 4. something. |
Re: ANNOUNCE: Easy Debian Turbo-Charged Edition!
fatalsaint: that's too bad. Make sure you've updated your repository thread to reflect the fact that your repository is now mostly empty.
|
Re: ANNOUNCE: Easy Debian Turbo-Charged Edition!
No it's not empty.. all my packages are still on it as well as on Stskeeps... Stskeeps' has his packages though that are not on mine.
The only problem with mine is that if you want KDE3.. it won't work until you remove my repo. |
Cannot Create the Debian Image File
OK, I installed the easy deb chroot from the repository. I have 1.9 GB of space on /media/mmc2. When I untar the empty image file, I always get "Cannot change ownership to uid 661, gid 661: Operation not permitted". tar: Error exit delayed from previous errors.
Any ideas on what is going wrong and how to fix it? Rick B. |
Re: ANNOUNCE: Easy Debian Turbo-Charged Edition!
rabilon: that is a harmless error, it just means that the FAT filesystem of your SD card has no permissions, so the permissions are lost as you untar the image. You should only get that error once, as you untar the image file.

Re: ANNOUNCE: Easy Debian Turbo-Charged Edition!
I was able to mount the image so you must be right that the error can be ignored. Will I have to issue those four commands every time?
I'm downloading the basic debian chroot fstar bz2 file. When it's downloaded, I will execute: tar xjvf basic-debian-chroot-fstar.bz2 -C /debian If that works, then I guess I should be able to use apt-get install to install R-base. Rick B. |
