The problem is that many people are interested in the subject matters discussed here, but don't have time for "filler" content. TMO is 95% full of redundant conversation because people are using it like a chatroom; the whole service was more valuable if idle chatter occured in offtopic forums, or there was a moderation system that made people a bit more "afraid" of disrupting threads with offtopic matters (-1, hijacking_the_thread).

Do people actually expect there to be a serious developer orientated discussion forum with zero chit chat if Meego does become mainstream though?

As a general rule, the higher the popularity, the stupider the comments. Look at Youtube; one of the most visited sites on the web and its comments possibly act an archive for all of human stupidity..

I'm not saying chaos should reign... but the idea of the maemo/meego OS reaching a developed state where it can take on android/iphone or becoming 'step 5 of 5' (and hence the popularity that will come with it) while having the main community resource/forum devoid of all humanity and just people sharing facts directly related to topics is perhaps a fools dream...

The "USB Hosting" thread was really interesting read for me. A great thread by the developers was ruined because of the comments posted towards the end.
The result was the thread was closed and the discussions went into secret effectively robbing this forum of some great content.

So maybe exercise a little intelligence and common-sense when you (or anyone) post on any particular thread.

Some threads benefit from a "focused" discussion some don't. Use your judgement and try and post appropiately.

My reta5rded dog and cats beg to differ...

EDIT: To keep this vaguely on-topic is this the release that will be "proper" open-sourced? (e.g. Anyone can participate in the development because all source code for UX is available?)

We're waiting for the MeeGo project(not Nokia) to open development of the pre-alpha handset UX. It will be very raw and this shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone. You can kick and scream all you want but these are the realities that have been communicated before.

Unless steps are taken the only thing that will happen is the developers, people pushing the NITs to do crazy things, and people sick of the noise will just go to IRC and post on this forum once in a blue moon. Imagine the signal to noise ratio then. o.O
