Do not "remove" files to uninstall programs (at least as you would not in any desktop OS).
I'm not familliar with the N9 but you should do something along the way of

N9 security code

I tried to enable the security code, but wasn't able to do that because I didn't know the default code. But somehow it got enabled and now the phone is asking me to enter the security code when I restarted the phone. Does anyone know what the default security code is? I already tried 12345 and 00000. And no, I haven't changed the code myself, because I didn't know the default code.

720 MKV files are very important to me, thats pretty much my main format used for videos. Has your friend confirmed any of this? Could it be achievable thru custom kernels or software upgrade in the future? Or is the hardware really crippled to that point...

Mind that my opinion is not an expert at all, N900 was also my first Linux encounter, fell in love with it, made me install Ubuntu on my PC, and I just love the Maemo Community... But as far as answering your question... I think the only answer that has been given is, if you have the money to spare, then go ahead and buy the N9. If you will have to struggle, save up for it, then I imagine it is not really that worth it... But since I'm hard-headed, I'm gonna go ahead and struggle for 2 weeks by spending an entire paycheck on a phone, because my N900 is really starting to let me down (I can't even reflash it...), I refuse to go do the Android road, iOS is a joke to me, and I have no business with BB so not interested. By the time Nokia actually releases WP7, I could probably afford to buy one if it comes to be more interesting than the N9 (which I really hope not...)

Much Appreciated, and i have to say with no doubt that you and I think exactly the same, after the N900 it seems like a joke to to iOS or Android , and money wise, it's not a big of a problem, still reading review almost every day, but aat the end I have my mind set on it, and hope i'll love it as i loved the N900 ;)

read that. it's all about perception. sensationalism sells, so using "doomed os" will grab hits more then "support for the next few years" edit: not the article i posted but the quoted one.

another thing and the most important thing. form your own opinion, try it and see for yourself, don't be lead by what others tell you to do. if you don't like it then you dont like it, if you do then you do, but at least you went by your own experiences.

Has "get_iplayer" been made available for the N9 yet?

I know you need to be root to use it, and the Aegis situation could be a problem.

That alone will decide whether i get the N9 or stick with my N900.

Swipe off the edge of the glass on an open app and the app pauses, shifts like a playing card on a full deck and remains in a tabbed sheet of apps until it needs to be reactivated. This is remarkably innate and without instruction from the phone, I was able to understand the OS fully from intuition alone.
The home screen is a disgusting page of “squircle” apps which give the candybar form of the N9 a very childish appeal. You cannot create folders meaning that over time your homepage begins to fill up with unwanted apps. How hard was it to create folders Nokia?

Basically what hes saying is that he wants a phone to sit around and look at the homescreen of, which isnt how the N9 was made, and that his personal taste on the icon pack supplied with the phone is not positive. Also as an addon he thinks it reminds him of Symbian.

The solution to problem 2 is to get an icon pack when/if available.

The solution to problem 1 is "dont review a phone thats made for X as if its made for Y", I guess. He wants a homescreen to sit around idle in, whereas the N9 isnt made for that at all but rather the opposite.

The addon: hes a ******. It reminds of symbian in the way that it has touchactivated tasks, and has icons representing things.

He also doesnt like that there are no folders in the appgrid. Im sure we can put folders in the appgrid sometime soon, but theres no real reason to if you organize your most used apps up top anyways. Writing this I realize its a very defensive way to put it, and I have to say that folders wouldnt have subtracted from the experience, so I agree there should be folders and a few more options on sorting apps (alphabetically, most used, etc).

He writes this about apps. I disagree, it doesnt have everything you will require out of the box. However I also disagree that you need an all you can eat buffet of apps. You need some basics, and some innovative and good ones, you dont need 40 versions of gravity-running-games, a million puzzle games that spew commercials at you, tony hawks skatedudemasteryosup 8 HD, ninety Talking TomCat varieties, etc. IMO.

Basically they view Maemo6 in a negative light because they feel it reminds them somewhat of Symbian, which IMO it doesnt (coming from S60v5 and S^3 Anna and Belle).

They also seem to be negative towards apps, which is a legitimate concern I guess. Personally Im not a huge "app" nut, so for me its irrelevant as long as the most key things are getting done (go community go!).

I dont really get the whining about support. If they support it for 6 months and give me 2 updates to the OS, Im extatic. Its a phone, not a god damn house. Look at where N900 started and look at it today. Quite a change, imo.

Course, if you want to buy a phone that will last you 4 years... youre not really big on tech and whatnot anyways, and probably wont even bother updating your phone, so the point is moot.

Iunno, I guess I just dont get the whole "OS is doomed = OMG STAY AWAY" logic.

That guy's review was a joke...
He didn't offer any solid arguments as-to-why the UI/OS is so terrible, just vague arty farty statements.
Plus he just kept repeating "it's horrid", as if that alone is enough to form a coherent argument.
Best cameraphone on the market? Pfft, there's at least two others that are better. That's not it's focus, it's an all-rounder.
There's a ph coming from panasonic (IIRC), that looks more like a camera than a ph, & it'll take way better pictures.
