(But atleast better than just infrared non-contact thermometer).

8x8 grid 60 degree view infrared sensor with I2C interface..

Combined with some camera software and graphics manipulation, you could get something close to Fluke VT02 (?)

cool sensor.

Good point Joerg_rw, it "might" be an issue if the main half negatively alters the OH functioning. :/

AMG88xx is 39 USD each as plain sensor...
And i assume most of those precautions are just general disclaimer stuff...

I need some help to get a camera viewfinder on screen, and way to make QML overlay on top of it. Rest i should be able to code.

 EDIT: damn... AMG88xx is not available from digikey here in Finland... inquiry sent. Have to ask from others.

Marc Dillon did choose "Ambience Light The Other Half" in together poll as his favorite.

Should someone make a proto out of it ? or is someone making already?

bunch of RGB leds, something to control them over i2c, TOH printed from translucent diffusive material, maybe use few films from TFT display to distribute evenly.

Somehow this reminds me about Nokia 3220

I have this idea to use my Jolla to listen to music on my car, and i wanted to do this with an "other half" rather than using a simple audio jack.
The problem is that i don't know anything of the things you need to know to "create" a other half :P
Basically i would stuck a Other Half in the car and use NFC and these pins behind the phone to output audio and charge the phone, instead of jack and usb, where can i find some info about how they work? i mean something more of what is told in the TOH development kit, i really know nothing and need to start from the very basics

You can charge your phone through those pins, that is all.
There is no audio output possibility (only theoretical)
Maybe simple other half with easier access to charge pins (or wireless charging), then mating contacts on the car-phone-holder side.
Bluetooth could be used for audio transfer.
