Must a been a bug or something, I can't replicate it. Everything in CA comes back as unavailable for N900 for cali.

I'm doing a similar thing. play.com have said 30/11 for ages now, so I don't expect to get anything til first week of December.
I've accepted the delay....but the possibility of getting it earlier is driving me mad ;)

Yes, me too! Tried one card 3 times, two other cards once each. Nothing worked. Called BoA and they said my account is fine. Checked online banking, saw three $1 auths against the card by Nokia. Angelo (the sales rep I was dealing with) "escalated" the issue and I'm waiting for a return call.

I'm caught in the same trap. They've been putting a hold on my card account every ten days or so since September 12. There's one there now. But when they try to revise my order, my card is rejected. The service rep said their account checks are on a hair trigger to avoid fraud. Apparently there is no way for them to over-ride this when it's a revised order caused by a change at their end.

I am dealing with the same issue (first with Andy and now with Angelo). Tried to make the payment 3 times with my BoA Visa debit card, I can see 3 $1 charges on my account, but on Nokia's side it failed each time and now my account has been flagged for fraud. BoA says that my account is fine. This whole process and the delays has given me second thoughts on sending my money to Nokia.

http://flors.wordpress.com/2009/11/1...-and-firmware/

Looks like the final software only came out today! so if they have shipped last week, then they shipped with old firmware - and an update will be required.

I wonder if Nokia will do this for each device before shipping or just rely on OTA update.

Either that or the device didnt ship like they said and hence the additional delay.

Isnīt that a given? Itīs the 16th today and heīs talking about his retail shop down the street delaying their shipments past the 10th. If his retailer had shipped on the 10th then these threads wouldnīt be going strong.... :)

Like I said, all you would really need is to ship the device in a state that can be flashed to up to date firmware. There is no point in making sure it has the latest and greatest firmware (and no reason to delay a launch because of that).

And then perhaps I'll have to wait even longer. Rant rant rant.

Staying with Amazon and saving an extra $50 through the rebate, I don't care if I'm not the first batch ( even though I ordered when the button first went up ) as long as I get it before Christmas.

Saving an extra $50 will pay for this http://www.jr.com/nokia/pe/NOK_DC11/ Extra battery power and charging FTW

Agreed, but this most likely means that someone is going to flash each and every device before sending onto the customer.

I really cannot see Nokia sending them out with beta software.

This might explain why Nokia and MPD are sending out devices in November and all other retailers are now saying end of Dec.

I cannot imagine Amazon or BestBuy flashing devices, they will simply wait for the second batch.

I'm pretty sure that firmware was ready and approved on week 45 so that the production N900s could have it. But they are only now releasing that firmware for public use.

There wasn't reason to release it before because public don't yet have the production devices. (Pre-production devices are another story.)

No stores in DC have it, but I looked at stores in CA since my Father lives there, and guess what...all Best Buy stores in Orange County are showing that they have it in-store. Called up the Long Beach store, they said they don't have it on the floor or in the back, but that their weekly truck arrived this morning and will be unpacked later tonight.

He stated that the system will usually show they have items in-stock, even if the item hasn't been unpacked from the truck. As soon as the truck arrives at the specific store, the system and thus the website get updated to show it's actually in-stock. Guy said to call back in about four hours and he should now for sure.

But I also was told that the overnight shipping I originally ordered was no longer available so I would be given 1 to 3 day shipping for $1 and that the $19.99 extended warranty I had ordered would be $49.99 if I still wanted it. She assured me that I would maintain my place in the preorder queue even though I was issued a new order number. She said she thought that the N900 was already shipping and I should get mine by the end of the month.

I really love Brightpoint. They really have their act together. Some of the best customer service ever!

I had a horrible experience with Brightpoint. Hopefully, I'll never have to deal with them again. I put in a long post about this earlier in this thread. For easy reference I'll quote it below:

"I just had a bad run-in with NokiaUSA sales. Here's the whole story...

I pre-ordered online back on Sept 4th. A couple of days later I got a call to inform me that my card had been denied. No way, I could buy a nice car with that card! So I call the card company. They say everything's fine, no problem, buy whatever. Call Nokia back, tried again - card is denied. So he tells me to wait 3 days for their system to clear that out and try again. I say let's try another card and see what happens. Ok, works this time! And AFAIK all has been well since. I checked the order now and then, always 'In progress'. Fine, I can wait.

Today, I get another call from Nokia to verify the order. All RIIIGHT!!! This it IT! But, no, the free headset can't be included, so he offers 15% discount instead. Great, I didn't really want the headset anyway, and it saves me about $100. BUT, I have to re-order.

That's where things go bad. Go through all my info again, get a new total and - the card is rejected. The same card I used on the 2nd try for the original pre-order. WTF?? I call the bank, they tell me Nokia tried 3 times to charge the phone and they never denied any of them. Bank gives me a 800 number for Nokia to call to get an authorization code to prove the card is good.

I call NokiaUSA again. They tell me they can't call the bank, I need to call them and get it straightened out, then do the 3-day wait again for their system to clear out my 'rejected card' and try to order again. And they tell me I do not have a N900 on order any more.

That's my limit for the day - I get kinda hot. Talk to a supervisor for 30 minutes. Whadaya mean you can't call the bank? Whadaya mean you can't correct an error in your system? Whadaya do if the same thing happens in 3 days? How do I get my friggin' phone I've waited 3 months for? I get no meaningful answers...

I'm done. I just pre-ordered from Newegg using one of the same cards NokiaUSA said was rejected. I've bought thousands of dollars worth of stuff from Newegg with no problems. I may get my N900 a little later (site says expect Nov 30) but I'll get it. And, the total on the original Nokia pre-order was $699. $559 from Newegg, so I saved $140.

The phone should rock. The NokiaUSA sales department can bite me. "

No no, nobody flashes the device but the consumer. You get the device into their hands and let them flash it. Just put a notice in each shipment saying "you need to flash this before use, and give them detailed instructions". Or even have it built into the default firmware it ships with an alert or message saying "the firmware on this device is out of date, complete performance and stability is not guaranteed, please upgrade the firmware as soon as possible".

Or unless they did it like Apple where you just plug it into any Windows PC or OSX to upgrade it. You could make a program for Linux too though most people can do it themselves (given the directions).

I rather have that than what they're doing now.

With Amazon pushing back (at least some) orders to mid-Jan and not sounding too sure about that, I couldn't resist checking on my pre-order from Newegg, especially since NokiaUSA/Brightpoint shafted me on my Sept 4 pre-order.

Still says the release date is Nov 30, but I noticed they reduced the limit per customer from 20 to 5.
