Why cant nokia communicate with us?! If they just told someone to log onto the forum and tell us "you will get an update eventually" i would feel better! This is crazy, im going to the flagship tomorrow to replace my n900 (will hopefully be able to call people without using speakerphone yaay!) i will have a nice little rant to them about the whole thing. Of course no one will pay attention/care :(

Thinking about it, n900 would be nothing without this forum :/

No-one in this thread knows - or in this thread cares! - about GPS. Use the search function to locate a thread about GPS and ask there. Spamming something irrrelevent here isn't going to get you what you want.

Honestly - go ask in the right place. People here like helping if you help yourself.

Kathy says it's Gordon Brown's fault today, so we can expect a period of silence and dithering, followed by the grudging release of a firmware that does less than it used to while signing you up to premium rate text messages from the Treasury.

Someone should yell at you to go and read all 1090 posts before asking this.

But I've already exhausted my bad temper allocation for today, so I'll just answer. No. We were just working out why it's Gordon Brown's fault today.

Would you be up for taking on NokiaUK HQ with pitchforks and burning tar barrels?

Okay...

I blame Gordon Brown because he's not a very good Prime Minister, he sold our gold off too cheaply, he didn't put an end to boom and bust, he looks creepy when he smiles and everyone is sick of him.

I think Nokia won't trust us with the update as long as Gordon's PM.

Who's next?

I think that if our Prime Minister was an old Etonian then we'd definitely get firmware upgrades before everyone else.

Still no update available here (france). Last time it did not see it neither and i had to reflash it. I am afraid it will be the same again.
Why did updates worked better with the n810 ?

This is really dissapointing.

That's why I essentially stopped following tmo lately, really. Subscribed to mailing lists instead, which probably are "too complicated" (thankfully) for whole bunch of kiddies like here in this thread.

Btw, I am in UK and haven't received an update yet (.203) if anyone cares.

If you're not using a UK phone, you should have had the update. See http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php...667#post532667 for a possible solution.

well the update didn't pop up for me either but when i clicked on "UPDATE" button in app manager, it is there. I think you should try that also.

It may hide inside the back of the queue or something. Try apt-get update. Hope it comes up for you buddy.

All the best. Otherwise just flash it with the latest image.

Well, aren't we a little ray of sunshine!

Those of us in the UK who've been left behind by this (and are worried about the next, more serious update passing us by) are amusing ourselves while waiting with a little humour. It isnt harming anyone.

I am signed up to a mailing list. I'm even signed up to a meego.org mailing. So I'm afraid you don't escape my childishness hat way, either. Unless the 'kiddie' comment was aimed at Fargus in which case... we really need a 'facepalm' smilie.

What we need is some inside information about the UK update.

What about our community council?

Are you guys reading this?

We just need some kind of confirmation about the UK update!

Why is it delayed?

That's all!
It could be any number of reasons (e.g. not full moon, waiting for vernal equinox, world peace)

SPEAK TO US NOKIA!

Put everyone's mind at rest.

But that's simply not good enough for the good Nokia buying, voting public of this Land.

The UK to get firmware updates from nokia within a reasonable timeframe and in any case at least within 24 hours of everyone else Party, demands 24 hours or less.

Vote for us!

Code:

dpkg -l "mp-fremantle-*"
If it's marked as "un" then you'll need to re-install the package (should be mp-fremantle-generic-pr for Europe I think).

There were some updates available with apt-get update, but the product version did not change.

About the mp-fremantle-* package, it is neither "i" nor "u", so i dont really know what s its states:

~ $ dpkg -l "mp-fremantle-*"

The fact still remains that it's been 2 days *for no reason*.

Compound this with the fact that Nokia's track record for releasing UK variant firmwares is distinctly less than stellar, and that while this update isnt that important the 1.2 update is, people are basically correct to be worried.
Consider that, as a couple of examples, the E72 unbranded simfree UK variant still doesnt have a V22 firmware update over a month after it was released, despite the fact that Vodafone in the UK have been able to get their carrier-branded firmware released already.
Consider also that the 5800 Red edition sold in the UK, whose sole only difference from Non-red editions is that the case has a red trim on it and the firmware variant has a different number attached, is now 3 or 4 firmware versions behind, because Nokia appear to have simply forgotten this phone exists, and have not released any updates for it.

Personally I reflashed my N900 to the Global firmware as I can fully see that UK N900 users are going to get the same treatment as UK users of practically all of Nokia's other devices get (ie totally shafted), with updates lagging further and further behind or stopping altogether, as per Nokia's track record.

By the way I notice that the Bug has been marked as fixed in Bugzilla where you couldn't send e-mail if you use Mail for Exchange and Nokia Messaging at the same time (possibly just for Google Mail and Google Calendar).

Does anyone know if that's in this update? I would check myself but I'm in the UK...

As far as I can gather flashing to the "global" firmware doesn't cause any kind of problem when using it in the UK (am I right?). So, if I get the pain of flashing it over and done with now then in the future (i.e. in a couple of weeks when PR1.2 comes out) I'll get the update immediately and won't have to camp out on lists like this. In which case why don't we all flash to global and stop worrying?

All these gripes and this thread will soon be forgotten when the update icon flashes. It will be full of yipees and the world will be a better place. Seriously come on its an intermediate update at best and the only reason it is delayed is because of technical difficulties on Nokias side. Its the only answer Nokia is not into conspirisies or taking down of governments there is just a problem releasing the uk varient at the moment nothing more nothing less. Simples

Correct. Flash to the global firmware now and future OTA updates will be on the global tree, so you'll get them straight away.

Incorrect. Nokia have been significantly delaying releases of UK variant firmwares for years, in some cases never releasing them at all. See post 1104 for a couple of examples. If this is a technical glitch, it's one that happens to practically every firmware release for every device nokia make, and it's one that in a lot of cases never gets fixed.

I have no idea why mp-fremantle-generic-pr was not installed, but if i try to install it, it complained because of some funny version of libvte4_0 i had installed (with the fix for bz#6009 that works but is still not applyed in the official package).

After removing libvte4, i was able to install mp-fremantle-generic-pr , then i rebooted and i have the correct product version.

Well, and now, i have bz#6009 again too...

Anyway, thanks for the tip :-)

What software version do you have in the "About product" section of the settings panel?

I have 2.209.51-1.205.1 which is the Vodafone variant IIRC.

I think this is a great idea.

As a party we can make laws!

1) Make iPhones illegal.
2) Every man, woman, child ,cat and dog is issued with an n900.
3) Keep asking when the "dog/cat" speech recognition will be released in the UK.
4) Punish Microsoft for WIndows Mobile by forcing them to use iPads
5) Free OVI Maps for n900
6) Force Nokia to send employees to Big Brother show to learn how to communicate.

I like cake.
