Re: Sailfish OS (officially) on Sony Xperia devices
I currently own Jolla 1, Jolla Tablet and Intex Aquafish (coverted to Jolla C) and tinkering with the idea of DualSim Xperia X (F5122). I definetly wanna try out to flash Sailfsih OS myself and am positiv on succeeding. Just read most of this thread and the instruction on sailfishos.org and have to say:
Apart from tech crazies, nerds, phone enthusiasts - who does Jolla really want to attract to come over from iOS or Android? I am so baffled....Like always crazy announcements "Sailfsih on Sony hardware - we will make an image and you can flash it. Just need a linux pc"... I love Arch and i setup my laptop from scratch via shell. So i am not too concerned about all of it. But as a company who wants to become 3rd in mobile OS market? Sorry NO user will go through that....I am suprised if even >=2000 will do that world wide.... EDIT: typos / sorry in advance if that is conceived as a rant - not my intention |
Re: Sailfish OS (officially) on Sony Xperia devices
I am writing this on my new xperia x. Argos in the UK have it reduced to £250.
Love the hardware, but OH MY GOD ANDROID IS AWFUL |

In regards to @hemiwi sailfishOS will always remain a niche OS for crazy people like us! |

This - sailfish OS - is a tech demo. It's client / target market (I believe) is government(s), especially ones that don't want "5 eyes" watching them Having said that I've got my €50 ready |

Re: Sailfish OS (officially) on Sony Xperia devices
It sounded like that was their original idea, yes. Whether it still is, I don't know.
|
Re: Sailfish OS (officially) on Sony Xperia devices
It is only 1 .bat/.sh file to run that will flash everything. Except on windows you'll need xperia drivers. Nothing different from flashing any android fw for most phones.

Aside from that its all straight fastboot flashing which you can do on any operating systen without trouble. |
Re: Sailfish OS (officially) on Sony Xperia devices
Got my F5121 in a few hours ago, new/sealed. Backed up DRM keys/TA partition using the DirtyCow method (and copied the img to multiple locations, in case of disaster), unlocked bootloader, installed TWRP, installed a custom ROM...
It's Android, so it's still garbage... but it's not hot garbage. Waiting patiently for official US/NA release. :) |

Re: Sailfish OS (officially) on Sony Xperia devices
Have a look at this resource:https://talk.maemo.org/showpost.php?...&postcount=785
It is well worth reading the thread to help get a feel for it:http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php...ght=Xperia+DRM You don't mention whether Windows 10 32-bit or 64-bit in which case you will probably need to disable driver signature verification at some point. You are lucky in that you won't have to downgrade from Nougat provided you ignore any software update prompts. |
Re: Sailfish OS (officially) on Sony Xperia devices
Thank you. I have now backed up my DRM keys. I have a few more questions:
1. My Xperia X is asking me to update my phone to Nougat. If I do so, a. Will the DRM keys change? b. Will I have to downgrade to Marshmallow again to install Sailfish OS? c. If I upgrade my phone to Nougat, will doing a factory reset bring it back to Marshmallow? Will the backed up DRM keys still be relevant in that case? |

Re: Sailfish OS (officially) on Sony Xperia devices
As of latest Jolla blog and Sailfish build & flash:

There is still a number of small issues - for example, tethering only works using command-line. Most of them will be addressed in the next update. |
Re: Sailfish OS (officially) on Sony Xperia devices
so i only now realized that what i thought was the F5121 in front of me is in fact the F8131 (xperia x performance). is there any use of it at this time? it's just going to gather dust otherwise, since it was bought second hand for the sole purpose of trying out sailfish on it.

Re: Sailfish OS (officially) on Sony Xperia devices
I double checked it before ordering mine, even more than the physical state of the phone :D
So many references for xperia :( |

EDIT: unless you're talking about Sony's official flashtool called Emma. But that doesn't even support the Xperia X. The other flashtool that was around before Sony's tool is the one I was talking about. |

You need xperifirm (Windoze) to DL files from Sony (FW). Then use flashtool (Linux/win) to create the needed FTF files (from downloaded Sony FW files) to flash (using flashtool). Since Xperifirm is Windoze only, you either need a Windoze avail, a VM, or DL files from elsewhere, probably less trusted places. Or, a helpful friend :) |

For Arch Linux, there's a xperia-flashtool package on AUR, which includes both the Flashtool and XperiFirm. |

Re: Sailfish OS (officially) on Sony Xperia devices
So heres a first attempt at a port for the X
https://mega.nz/#!T45hxTiR!5lOmNEmvc...QZtJDnG-5pH554 download https://github.com/EpicAOSP/make_ext...in/make_ext4fs https://developer.sonymobile.com/dow...w-6-0-1-loire/ and place in same folder as flash.sh run flash.sh and follow instructions, you need to also download this and place it in same folder happy flashings, major disclaimers if it breaks :P |
Re: Sailfish OS (officially) on Sony Xperia devices
Anyone got the Bluetooth working?

The official thread on XDA explicitly mentions Linux and OS X support. Also, Mono and Wine are two completely different things! You are not running a Windows software on Linux. The software was developed to be cross platform. |

What I want to say is: If you use Linux, there's no need to search for a Windows computer to use XperiFirm in. Install the Linux version and, if it runs, use it! It can't hurt your computer or your Xperia X in any way, as its only purpose is to download the firmwares. |
