Are they referring to update 8 that's coming just before they go on break, or the next update that comes ~2mths after they get back?

The latter to my understanding.

I don't understand this sentence, are they saying that details about the next Jolla ph won't be published until next year?

Yeah, that was pretty much direct translation. More accurate would be; new phone will come out latest during next year (nothing new there, I guess).

Still not getting you, is this what you/they were trying to say:

Next phone won't be announced (& details published) until "late" 2015.

Latest means latest - not later than next year. That is pretty clear.

By the way, why would you guess that the massive update would be update 8, when it's been confirmed that update 8 is planned for early July? AFAIK July is in summer, not fall...

It's not 100% clear, which is why I asked for a further clarification, is English your primary language? Be honest now.

Just checking with him based on what he read in the article, nothing more. What are you, the thread superintendent? ;)

The finnish words are pretty clear on this.
Ei myöhemmin kuin ensi vuonna, hän sanoo.
Not later than next year, he says.

The interview also specify that is unlikely that a new model will come on 'this half of the year' because Jolla is focusing on the 'massive' update during the fall. So:
- this year is s/w updates
- next year is the time for new h/w

So:

The next phone won't be formally/officially announced (details published etc) & available (on store shelves or in mailboxes etc) until 2015.
That's "roughly" what he said in the interview?
Riveting & amazing new revelations, not

You guys have noticed that Jolla's camera's lense scratches very easily?
There's some kind of coating on the lense that in my case, has wore out from the edge.. I guess it has something to do with preventing reflections?

Not in my case... it's still in one piece, even after the fall that cracked the glass.
