Re: [ANNOUNCE] Alpha release of Open Media Player
Thanx!
Opening audio streams work now, also resuming. The gpodder interaction works great again! When opening the settings, there are always the defaults. The changes made seem not to be saved. I think, scolling should be made better. When scrolling repeatly through a large list, the player often takes it as a double click and changes the song. Maybe it should be implemented, that I hold long, a context opens, where I can choose to play this song. Searching in playlists is not possible. I think, OMP is ready for CSSU. When will it be included? |
Re: [ANNOUNCE] Alpha release of Open Media Player
Hi,
Awesome player of course. It is getting better and better after every update. Still, I have a quite basic question, sorry if it has already been asked but : how can I update the media library of OMP ? I have mp3 file stored on my external media card. Some of those got "synchronised" with OMP, but some didn't. So, is there a way to get my remaining files readable by OMP ? Apart from opening them through Filebox ? Vlad |
Re: [ANNOUNCE] Alpha release of Open Media Player
Any plans to change buffer time for streaming radios? When I play internet radios in computer, all streams well but when playing in mobile, most of those stops streaming after a while. I am using same internet connectivity and same station, so I guess, different buffer time is the reason for the problem.
Thanks for such a great work. |
Re: [ANNOUNCE] Alpha release of Open Media Player
OMP is so awesome it's not even funny.
I have it locked to portrait (awesome option imo) and it beats my N8's & N9's mp3 player. Even on loudness. |
Re: [ANNOUNCE] Alpha release of Open Media Player
Tag editing and cover changing will be nice feature, since MussOrgsky isnt working anymore :D

Anyway IMO wouldn't it be better to fix the possible small problem in an existing app, than write a load of code in an app that's not for purpose. |
Re: [ANNOUNCE] Alpha release of Open Media Player
as I said, it's fantastic and it must become a "core" application sooner or later. : )
The only drawback (imo) so far is that it is somewhat "slow". It does not ruin the xperience ,of course, but there is some room for improvement. Other that that ---> AAA stuff! |

I leave OMP open all the time now so when it's plugged into my van, play resumes on connection. The issue is due to having an alarm clock setup (Alarmed) to resume OMP in a morning this requires pressing pause when I get up. Due to the recent update this now stops automatic resume working on first connection. Although I agree it's a good feature, the option not to use it would be nice. Also since you have a useful Sleep timer feature how easy would it be to implement the opposite, a "wake timer" or "exponential increase in volume wake me up feature". IMO useful features would be:-

Re: [ANNOUNCE] Alpha release of Open Media Player
Any settings changes I attempt in the latest version don't stick. Could it be a permissions problem with the configuration file? If so, where is it located?

Have you tried opening OMP via a terminal Code:
/usr/bin/openmediaplayer |
Re: [ANNOUNCE] Alpha release of Open Media Player
Yes, and I get no errors - other than possibly this:
Code:
State request denied: state request change denied by policy From where are the settings read? I should check whether somehow something has happened to permissions for that file. |
Re: [ANNOUNCE] Alpha release of Open Media Player
Try
Code:
ls -al /home/user/.config/MohammadAG/mediaplayer.conf |

A small step forward, but still not solved. |
Re: [ANNOUNCE] Alpha release of Open Media Player
Why do you not just use the command in X-Terminal to look for permissions?
|
Re: [ANNOUNCE] Alpha release of Open Media Player
Directory permissions:
Code:
drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 4096 |
Re: [ANNOUNCE] Alpha release of Open Media Player
Not the right permissions to save anything as user!
Try to correct your permissions for /home/user Code:
sudo gainroot |
Re: [ANNOUNCE] Alpha release of Open Media Player
@gdizzz
What about small cleanup, of placing openmediaplayer configs in something like "/home/user/.config/openmediaplayer", instead of current place? AFAIK, such cleanups are part of preparing packages for CSSU (ade did same thing for worldclock replacement). Not to mention frustration, when one need to find that config - don't even start without dpkg -L ;) Of course, it's such minor thing, that it could be bundled with any update, that You're preparing, without any haste. /Estel |

Thus, although MohammadAG is a legend around here (and rightfully so!), I second Estel's suggestion to change the name of the conf dir to make it easier to find. Edit: I just saw post #938 from back in April that deals with this very question and directory. Hanging my head in shame for asking questions first and reading later... Sorry. |
Re: [ANNOUNCE] Alpha release of Open Media Player
Chances are that if one directory has wrong permissions, that there are more files and folders somewhat borked, therefore the command to get them all...

Sometimes I encounter a problem with Tracker not reading metadata properly in a few tracks (they show up in unknown artists) and then I force Tracker to recheck them by executing "touch /path/to/file". Perhaps that works also for omitted files. Quote:

Sure, I can't believe I haven't come up with this by myself after so much confusion caused by downtime. :)

Re: [ANNOUNCE] Alpha release of Open Media Player
I would love to have an option to load an entire folder with all subfolders and songs/videos to playlist. With this and an option to say the default medias folder where begin navigation I wouldn't need trackerd at all. I really prefer to navigate and charge folders of music instead of using id3 tags. Could be possible?

Re: [ANNOUNCE] Alpha release of Open Media Player
Guys, I'm still experiencing my problem with playing .ogg music and theora video files. It's really strange and troubling.
As said before, .ogg and theora is registered with tracker. Furthermore, tracker *does* index albums from .ogg files, and know their playtime! If I make playlist out of .ogg files, it know it's total playing time, and play time of any individual file. Yet, when trying to play it, it just skips through whole list. Non- ogg. files are not affected. As for theora, the problem seems to be of different nature. Tracker also *does* know playtime of theora files, but when I try to play any, this pop-up appear: http://lorienart.pl/theora.png Translation is: "Can't open file. Unable to find codec: <rest is in english on screenshot> Oddly enough,m .flac files are working without any problem. Any ideas, how to fix it? I'm really getting desperate, help *much* appreciated. /Estel |
Re: [ANNOUNCE] Alpha release of Open Media Player
Hello,
Long time listener, first time caller. So, I downloaded this last night (as well as finally getting with the program and downloading the cssu firware patch) and firstly, the media player is absolute mustard, well done. The only bug-bear is the fact that there still remains track gaps which between tracks on mixes etc sounds so annoying. So, my question is, are there any plans to fix this or is this just something to live with as it's the hardware that causes it? I hope it's the former as even my eternally old BlackBerry can transition tracks seamlessly! Ta! |

I am afraid that is the way MAFW works. Implementing gapless playback on MAFW is outwith the scope of openmediaplayer development. |
Re: [ANNOUNCE] Alpha release of Open Media Player
i think i asked about gapless playback or something else earlier in the thread. as i stated then, this project is about the getting the media player working/completed but there will become a point where other projects may need updating to cater for fixes or features. MAFW is a prime candidate as it underpins omp.
The best example of this at the moment is ogg/theora playback like Estel is facing. Finding the fault involves checking omp, tracker, mime-type registration/db and codecs. The more that is checked, the more people will become familiar with the other projects. This may then spur development of these projects. So, if you want gapless playback, start reading up on MAFW, find the source, if available, and familiarise yourself with it. If not, do some research on MAFW and see how feasible a rewrite is. edit: source https://garage.maemo.org/plugins/scm...afw/?root=mafw |

Re: [ANNOUNCE] Alpha release of Open Media Player
Resolved! See edit at the end of post.
-------------- I've made some progress. After installing gstreamer0.10-ogg and reinstalling ogg-support 3432423 time (mandatory, without it, installing gstreamer0.10-ogg doesn't do anything!), I got .ogg playback through mafw. OTOH, Theora still doesn't work, and tracker lost ability to see playtime of theora files. This time, error while trying to play Theora files is different - it complains that: "can't find codec: Application/octet-stream". This is very strange, as I'm almost sure, that before problems started, I had .ogg playback *without* gstreamer0.10-ogg package, and gstreamer0.10-maemo-xiph was sufficient. During IRC conversation, kerio confirmed, that .ogg is working for him, without -ogg and with -maemo-xiph. Could anyone else, who have working .ogg playback check own setup? Generally, still no idea WTF... http://i.iflip.im/2bb1.jpg Also, during the process of (re)installing everything back and forth, somehow, tracker again lost ability to see my .ogg and .flac files (despite both of them playing fine). Even better - while playing .ogg files, they work, but playback time isn't known and seeking is disabled. Even during playback, total time of track is shown as -00:01 second. /Estel // Edit gdizzz, sorry for hijack thread ;) As it's definitely mafw-related problem, not openmediaplayer one, I can move this discussion to separate thread, if it irritates You. I tried to ask here, as, You know, biggest chance of people knowing something about decoders on N900 (and initially, it wasn't sure if it's not OMP problem). ---------- Resolved! // Edit After 6 hours of fighting with it, I decided to nuke everything related to gstreamer, ogg, xipg, vorbis, theora, etc. After purging dozens of packages (as many others depended on xiph things, for example Marble), and reinstalling back again affected programs + ogg-support + extra decoders support, I've got perfectly working .ogg and .flac playback, with correct times, tags, etc, also visible by tracker. Theora wasn't playing yet (but playback time was visible), yet this time, responded with sane message about "lack of Theora decoder". Installing gstreamer0.10-theora and re-installing ogg-support again (to register it), enabled flawless Theora playback. So, everything is working as it should :) Thanks to everyone trying to help. I have no freakin' idea, why it refused to work before - it seems that nuking this or that, sometimes, isn't bad idea, at all. |
Re: [ANNOUNCE] Alpha release of Open Media Player
I think I've read it somewhere.... where does the OMP get the lyrics from ?
I have many many songs that cant show lyrics for some odd reason, nevertheless they are from Cd Albums. |
