Jphone2, too bad i have to skip this, too many touchscreen devices, it have become an addiction. I today dusted off my casette walkman and found my tapes have survived 20 years of no use seemingly without aging, planned obsolence is tragic. |
Re: Jolla User Experience Thread
I think Jolla's pricepoint is acceptable. They don't have the economies of scale to manufacture a small quantity of phones so cheaply, and they don't use a platform with a very wealthy parent that heavily subsidies it.

@Paspie
About the price point - it is OK for the SoC, RAM, memory etc. But built quality is really low. Whatever the price so many design and HW issues are not acceptable. Also - there are people(like me), that do not care if it costs 400 or 600 euro, but they want nice materials, good design, adequate screen. I would have gladly paid even 700-800 euro for Jolla made of metal, carbon etc., 720p AMOLED screen, thinner bezel, with quality components, without SIM tray issues, without vibration problem, without battery problem, without speaker problem and the list goes on. Yes, I understand Jolla is too small to produce and sell nice device at higher price, but I think current price is not adequate for the build quality and materials used. |

In my opinion, Jolla feels exclusive and reliable, design and quality-wise. But then again, I've never experienced any SIM tray, vibration, battery, or speaker issues... |

@nodevel
Being a Jolla TJC regular user - I can't say device is reliable. Not even close. There are numerous threads about the random reboots and shutdowns. With hundreds of confirmed cases amongst Jolla users. Add together all the above mentioned HW issues affected users and calculate the ratio against the sold units. You are ending up in 10-20-30% faulty devices. And I see a point spending 700-800 euros on a device - to support the choice and variety. But Jolla needs to work harder. That said - I do appreciate the effort and admire the boldness of Jolla team! I just want the relationship between us(users) and them(Jolla) to be #unlike. I do not want excuses like Appe's "You are not holding it right" :D |
Re: Jolla User Experience Thread
It seems that there is lots of variance from device to device, some people get the HW faults and some have never seen any. (like myself, no HW problems with my device)
The problem obviously is not Jolla's but with the OEM who makes the devices. (what this means is of course that Jolla should have a tighter leash on their manufacturing partner. OTOH it is not possible to do that when you are a small company, when compared to the large players that can screw the balls off their MFG partners...) All in all, the device feels pretty much on target regarding quality for the money. When compared for example to the current Microsoft lineup of devices, there are about similar level of HW defects found on the phones. |

So far the phone's hardware has had a pretty solid track record, no broken USB ports, no destructive lens covers, few screen issues...especially when compared to many late Nokia symbian-era phones, a couple I have noted. Now the phone does have a much smaller install-base so HW issues will be rarer but proportionately the engineers have done a pretty splendid job, especially for the ex-Nokians. Now the specs and design? Yes, they could have done better, the screen and the camera being a particular low point. But this is still their first phone, and just like the HTC Wallaby, HTC Dream and the original iPhone, there will always be a few things the manufacturer hasn't quite perfected yet, especially with relation to new software. Give Sailfish, and Jolla, some time and I think you'll have a smooth ride. And to those who are having software issues, what have you been doing in Developer Mode? |

I aldo think that Jollas price is pretty much to the mark. This is right price for the phone. I do admit, like someone before, that I would have paid much more for this phone, and given opportunity to buy phone with modern specs, but with build quality and desing like those old Nokia desing phones (Scirrocco and Luna comes to mind) I would be ready to pay a lot more for a phone tham 400€ Has anyone heard anything of app like Easy answer for N9 to exist for Jolla phone? I really mis that shake to answer ability, also speaker switcher and turning the phone around to silence the call. REALLY REALLY missing those, but can't find anytjng similar for Jolla |
