Re: RSS Feed Applet - Now shows more!

btw, how do you revert to original behavior ?

The original osso-rss-feed-reader-applet is not included in any repository as a .deb file, and building it seems difficult (i've got the same problem as here: https://bugs.maemo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=2992).

Maybe the original poster could give some indication about how to build ? Thanks.

There is a way to create a .deb from an installed .deb while you don't have the .deb but I don't know how anymore. I read http://www.debian.org/doc/FAQ/ch-pkgtools.en.html and the previous chapter and while this might help http://thedarkmaster.wordpress.com/2...d-application/ it isn't useful in this particular case.

In theory http://repository.maemo.org/pool/dia...s-feed-reader/ should be enough for you but because there is no .deb maybe they're not able to get it build themselves either??

Thanks allnames. I could restore an old backup, and recreate the package (like described in your second link). I could also hack the source packages to remove unwanted dependencies. But all of this seems a far too complicated and time consuming. I don't understand why Nokia doesn't just provide the .deb ...

(I could also just overwrite binary files, but its ugly ...)

Was wondering if anyone could tell me why that little strange character appears between the two items...just below where it says "on honoring"? And also...anyway this space saving could also be done to the speed contacts?

Also, OS2008 feature upgrade is showing up as broken in updates.

Mhm... what a strange coincidence. I've always been annoyed by the space-wasting RSS-applet, but never saw this thread, let alone the fix provided here. So I did my own last weekend. From what I see, it's basically the same changes to the header file.

But: At least on my N800, the *deb installs without switching to red pill mode. Also, it leaves the original applet untouched, so you can easily switch back to the original Nokia code just by selecting the other applet. (You can even have them both side by side on your home screen, but I'm not sure yet if this is a feature ;) ...)

There are still some glitches (like it has the same name, so when you select it from the home-menu, you never know which is which until it shows), but it might be worth trying.

I uploaded it to the garage yesterday mainly to learn how to work with the garage and with SVN (never done that before, very exciting!), and now, only a few hours later, munky261 brings back this thread to show me I'm not the only one who likes the old style... funny.

So, have a look at the poject's homepage (yes, there's a screenshot) or go directly to the download.

I'd really love to hear if it installs cleanly on other people's tablets, too. Mine is so messed up meanwhile that my own experience doesn't count much. :D

I installed that before I did this fix, it installed just fine and i rebotted then opened it and it doesnt just show a single line for each item. It iscutting off a second line with the next item rather that showing just one line.

mhm... I'm not sure if I understand you correctly:

Do you mean it doesn't look as in my screenshot (like: there's part of the 2nd line showing, line height is still double, ...)?
Or are you saying that it simply has a line break at the same position as the original Nokia applet, making the second part of the headline invisible and showing too little of the first line?

If it's the latter: Yes, that's how it is ATM. I'll try to have it fill up the whole width with whatever fits there (cutting off right within a word if necessary), but in the end, I'll have to live with headlines that are just cut off. It used to be this way in OS2005-OS2007 and you cannot do much about it if you don't allow a second line, can you?

If there's something wrong with the layout in general (=it doesn't look like my screenshot), maybe its an issue with themes and character size in custom themes. Just guessing, though.

Re: RSS Feed Applet - Now shows more!

benny1967, It is the theme Im using, it has a smaller system font than the original themes. Any way you can fix that...as Id rather use yours, as it doesnt make any updates show as broken.

Re: RSS Feed Applet - Now shows more!

thank you for letting me know about the issue with themes. i guess that once i fixed line break handling in general (show as much of line #1 as possible, don't show anything at all in line #2), this issue should be gone. - right now i completly rely on line #2 being hidden by the following item which, of course, only works with certain font size.

cant promise when i can play with it again, but i hope it won't be longer than a week.
