You should have explained to the first commenter that he was wrong and he wasn't hijacking the thread at all. No wonder you put "hijacking" in quotes -- you completely disagreed with his comment claiming to be hijacking the thread. And I presume that General Antilles also disagreed with him, but said nothing until it came time to criticize me for agreeing with his confession of hijacking the thread, and those who followed him.

Anyway... Could a Nokia map client be developed that runs on N8**' devices and accesses Nokia services via the OVI API's.
Does it have to be running Mer or could access to the API's alone allow an independently developed Diablo app do the same thing?

I guess what I'm saying is... I would love access to Nokia Maps on my N8**'s, for that matter a WRT as well.

If widgets and Nokia Maps are available on the Fremantle device, what is stopping them from running in Mer or in independently coded apps running in diablo?

The new Ovi Navigation Player API is designed to be used alongside the existing Ovi Maps Player API, according to a Nokia blog post, and lets applications guide users to destinations.

The Ovi SDK will be a powerful beast once Nokia puts Maemo on a netbook. They will have single handedly managed to harness the web on all fronts, and computing as well. A MicosoftAppleYahooNintendoopoly!

Ovi SDK for apps the Nokia way... possibly on the Android and Apple systems (via jailbreak) if Nokia ports Qt to those platforms. As Texrat said, this is a new ballgame, and I think its the Major Leagues.

The Ovi APIs don't have to be a powerful platform, just an open door to integrated services.

Qt will be supported partially in Maemo 5, totally in Hamarratan and partially Symbian^3. Basically making it quite easy for Nokia to build once and run all their devices easily. Add this API and they ensure the next major steps in whatever next major platform there is (hint: the internet is an OS).

The question for Mer is simply whether it will support the door to integrated services built upon HTML/CSS/JS (ahem, same stuff WRT, widgets, Palm's webOS, and Google GWT frameworks use). If not, then Mer is just something to tide folks over, serving to scratch the itch of developers who are happier with the N800/N810, than more current offerings.

Its not that difficult folks... the question is whether some of you here will run with it, or keep to the door that the IT got you into seeing.

There is a Qt Frameworks for S60 right now, but I think it isn't in finished form yet. Not sure.
