We have unprecedented access to the OS, plus Nokia wanting to become an enabler and facilitator of services. This means instead of making "an app for that", this, or the other, let's do one better. Lets stop building apps and start byilding infrastructure. We need to create the rails to enable us to access Pandora, Last.fm, MySpace Music, and any other music streaming services that come along ALL FROM THE SAME INTERFACE!

So find the common ground between these services, create a common UI, and figure out how to enable these services to work within that paradigm. Isn't that a better idea?

I'm sick of filling up space on my device with multiple apps and icons for similar but branded services. Maemo is a game changer, so let's change the game. We finally have Nokia's support, so let's take advantage of the opportunity at hand! Let the sheep use their iPhones. We have pocket workstations. We can exceed anything on the market if we plan and use our heads.

I suggest starting with Qt and thinking out the UI. Anyone game?

https://garage.maemo.org/docman/view...ntle-draft.pdf Inacessable at the moment of course, but I'd check out Maemo's Media Application FrameWork

Little bit of (oldish) info here: http://arstechnica.com/open-source/n...-framework.ars

It allows you to implement content providers, and content viewers.

Seems like pandora would require both, a provider to determine/get at the streams, and a viewer to provide the UI elements necessary to thumbs up/down tracks.

From my dealings with Nokia, what christexaport is suggesting is exactly what they had in mind when developing the Media Application in this modular way.

So what dealings have you had with Nokia? I'm just a blogger/promoter with zero dev skills. maybe we could work together, and I can use your experience to be more prepared.

AFAIK, the (newer) standalone players are intended for paid accounts only (I run Pandora One using Adobe AIR on my desktop, which uses roughly 10% of my CPU). I haven't tried pianobar yet, but hope to soon (maybe try creating a plasmoid to control it, if possible). Barring library issues, I'm hoping it will run on the N900. It would be really nice to have one or more such backends controlled through a unified interface.

Interestingly, adobe AIR has a linux installer. It won't go on the n900, but it could probably be tweaked to do so.

Then the AIR PandoraOne client should be just like running a flash .swf locally, etc. Why they used AIR instead of flash, I don't know.

atm, AIR doesn't run on ARM yet, or so I hear. If it did, I'd be screaming for Tweetdeck.

Like Laughing Man just mentioned, pyRadio is a Pandora client that works GREAT! Fatalsaint is quick and responsive to anything regarding his app. I've been using it for over 6 months and the experience has been great.

As for Podcast...I personally add them to my RSS reader and then just download them(to avoid having annoying buffering issues). I know that may not be the best solution but a thought. I really never used RSS until I got the N900 and it really is a useful tool for mobile browsing. I prefer FeedingIt as an RSS reader because it supports Portrait and Landscape.
