so far yes but i have not tried the old version for a few weeks-so i do not know about long term-i paid the $3 to try the new version and see what the free downloads are like -if they are no better than what is already freely available then i will NOT use vagalume at all

Same for this little elusive tidbit...

Ok, note that you're probably violating the Last.fm terms of service if you do this, but these would be the steps:

1. Download this file: http://pastebin.com/pastebin.php?dl=f49509cfd

2. Open it with a text editor

3. Put your API key and secret there.

4. Import the new file from Vagalume

5. Go to the Preferences dialog and select 'Last.fm'

The service doesn't change, read the original announcement here:

Only subscribers will be allowed to stream using API applications unless you negotiate a separate deal with us - we need to get the money to cover royalties.
The funny thing here is that, if what you say is correct, applications using the old API (e.g. Vagalume 0.7.1) still work even if you don't have a subscription. An that's a shame. I spent a lot of time adapting Vagalume to use the new API.

Alberto, it is true, version 0.7 worked fine. As soon as I installed version 0.8 it started giving me the URL error message. Maybe your team will find a bug and give us an update.

I don't think there is a bug in 0.8. It's just that last.fm hasn't turned off the old API. If and when they do, only 0.8 will work if and only if you provide a key.

Setting old_streaming_api to 1 does, indeed, get me accessing Last.FM - without being a subscriber - in exactly the way that Vagalume on my N810 does.

That's good to know, I think I can release a new Vagalume version with a workaround so that it uses the old API automatically if the new one doesn't work.

It doesn't work for me here, maybe it depends on the country.

Can you try with this patch?

http://pastebin.ca/1715740

(I can prepare a package for you if you want)

I don't have time to get the source, apply the patch and build a binary - but if you email me a binary (doesn't need to be a full-blown package), I'll happily test it.

Ok, it appears to work, expect a new Vagalume release soon. Thanks for helping me debug the problem.
