Re: T-Mobile (USA) Upgrades to HSPA 7.2Mbps
I seem to be getting decent speeds.. 7.2 though? I dunno. If I go through Speedtest.com I'm getting horrendous down and up but I'm also pinging out at over 500. Normal surfing is fine and other tests like mobilespeedtest I'm getting 2k down.

Conversation with T-Mobile CSR
Mark Meyer: PhoneScoop has announced that 7.2 Mbps is available today throughout the whole T-Mobile network. Is that true. I am in Louisville, CO and am still only getting 600 - 800 Kbps on my TP 2. _Stefanie L: Thank you for waiting patiently while I was able to access your account. I would like to take this time to thank you for being part of the T-Mobile family since 1997. Mark Meyer: Here is a link to the PhoneScoop article. Mark Meyer: http://www.phonescoop.com/news/item.php?n=5310 Mark Meyer: All of the blogs are on fir this morning over this announcement. Mark Meyer: fire _Stefanie L: We do have limited information about this at this time. We have not released any new speeds today. Mark Meyer: Really? Mark Meyer: What is the limited information you have that you can share? _Stefanie L: Currently we are only offering up to 1.20 Mbps with our 3G service. _Stefanie L: We are currently working to expand our bandwidth to be able to provide faster speeds for our 3G services. Mark Meyer: But no big launch ot 7.2 Mbps network wide today? _Stefanie L: No, we have not released any new speeds for our 3G today. _Stefanie L: We are working to improve our 3G coverage every day and expanding. Mark Meyer: Also, I have noticed that your coverage map has not been updated in a long time to indicate areas that suppport 3G. For instance, I was in Montogomery, AL over Thanksgiving and got 3G speeds then. The map still has not been updated. Any idea when the map will be updated? _Stefanie L: We launch new 3G sites every day, so sometimes it is not updated immediately. We do try to keep it as current as possible however. |

Customer service isn't going to be updated with corporate decisions or announcements. Best thing to do is get hold of someone in the "public relations" department.

It is. I felt like a schmuck when I was going to send that picture to a friend of mine a few minutes ago, and realized that I was on the home WiFi at the time. Then, I got slightly annoyed, as I'm supposed to be at 50Mb per second (I'm a lucky Cox customer who happens to live in the area where they're beta testing these speeds in Scottsdale AZ). So yes. You cannot measure 3G on WiFi. No matter what the smart kids tell you. Don't believe them. :D |
