My N900 is FAST. Fast enough to impress everyone who's played withj it, even iPhone owners. It does everything far faster than the Brand X unit it replaced.

It does everything it was supposed to do. It's been rock-solid stable and trouble-free for 1/12 months of heavy use as a phone, tracking several email accounts, using company webportals and general surfing.

Obviously the OP has some kinda problem, be it an installed app acting up, defective hardware - whatever - he needs to do some troubleshooting, find the trouble and not put the blame on Maemo or the N900 in general.

And those moaning about this or that missing feature:
a. Shoulda done your homework.
b. It has all the basics - maybe not exactly what YOU want, but the basics all work well.
c. Either be patient and wait for missing apps or features to be added or...
d. Start coding what you want if you can or...
e. Shut up and sell your N900.

Written quickly and problem-free from a N900.

I have none of the issues the OP listed, with either of the (2) 900s I have/had, especially on a regular basis. I have had general freezing every now and then (Firefox), but not to the point where I'd blame Nokia for putting out a shotty product. To say that its lagginess is a "Nokia specific oversight for the product as a whole, and a chronic issue" is going a little bit far. I've had "some" experiences of slowness in all (3) of my last smartphones, at one time or another, but its been more of an exception, rather than the norm.

agreed, as of 2 hours i will not longer be a n900 owner :( but I do get a trusty blackberry 9700 which is messege centric, I will miss the browser but there we go!

Of all the features that these devices (not just the 900) perform, and most of them well, and irregardless of the functionality they provide, it never ceases to amaze me that "jerky screen animation/scrolling" is such a serious issue for so many people.

Person 1: "Say, how is that n900?"

Person 2: "Oh wow, its great! I does everything from making me a cake, to doing my taxes, and does it well...but I really hope they fix the jerky scrolling when switching desktops."

1. Tracker database corrupted? Filesystem corrupted?

2. I do not know if that happens to me after ctrl-backspace (shortcutd), but sometimes one layer of ui freezes. It doesn't take taps but it recognizes long tap. This is quite rare and random. Mostly happens on webpage when suddenly it doesnt take tap at all. If i zoom out and in and then tap it takes it. Really rare, but when happens it really pisses me off. I would write bug report but i have no idea how to reproduce it and its like 1/40 and it has nothing to do with cpu load.

3. Now thats bad. It should jump almost immediately. How many contacts you have?

4.Happens also me sometimes. Maybe 1/10. It suddenly jumps to desktop eventhought i have opened preferences.

5. I have not tested that application but sometimes it takes awhile before you can write to textbox on webpages, but for me reason has been Cpu load from background or page what i am viewing.

Ive had the N900 since launch day in the UK, I love it but it is by no means perfect, (both from a bugs perfective and a basics perspective) I really dont know where you get your Rose tinted specs from.;) . Its a typical Nokia device, there are so many missing small details/issues. Some will be cleared up I know, however..in 6 months time. This is beta software imo - software that wont and hasnt 'beaten' the competition.
And yes its missing apps etc - I believe this will be fixed, and personally Im trying to help by giving suggestions/brainstorming. I am however concerned about the quality of the GUI on apps as the majority of stuff coming through is homebrew. Lets hope some developers become attracted to Maemo.

The N900 has potential but its not ready in any way. It needs the kind of polishing and customer ponint of view programming apple have. Nokia need to wake up.

But it is - its so important - the detail. These issues are the things the average person on the street notices. Functionality isnt 100% king. If you are going to take on competitors such details need to be addressed.

Are you trying to say to me and (I havent bought this and i´m quite happy but I DO recognize issues what i think are serious and need fixing) users here who prefer fast and smooth transitions are customers whos need is not important and actually maybe a bit irrelevant when compared to what this monster really can do?

And yes. Actually i have described exactly with those words this device to other people. I have shown what it can do at best and what are the things i do not like and one is jerky/tearing issue almost everywhere. Sorry :| That's just me.

And there is already bugzilla entrys concerning these issues and developer threads and also user threads emerging at constant phase so thats just name of the game and I´m sorry if my needs sound to you stupid.

If you're talking about the All Songs list, then the Media Player only seems to search the things that have been populated in the list already. (It takes a couple of seconds for the N900 to put everything into the list, as you can see by the scrollbar changing sizes.)

If you have thousands of mp3s (like me) then if you go to the All Songs list and start typing to search immediately, you won't get all the results you're expecting. Trying again after waiting a couple of seconds fixes this.

I would also love to know the answer to this. The media player - the less said about it the better. It can take up to a week for it to finally recognise all the media files you have added. And even then it takes ages to do anything. Starting a video is particularly painful (I can press play as many as 10 times before a video starts playing - not because it didn't recognise my press the 1st, 2nd, 3rd time, etc but because it is just taking 10 years to start the video). Then the video stutters for the first few seconds. Contrast that with my old 2nd gen ipod touch that was able to start videos immediately and play them smoothly from the start.

And it is not just the media player that is slow. It just seems to take too much time with everything in contrast to you know what which is a far older device.

the only time i experinced a similar problem with my photo album was when i installed the new video codecsm some photos wouldnt show, or it would take too long for them to load up. since ive uninstalled them its faster than a bullet!! well not quite! ;)

i get the same problem with ctrl + backspace in the browser and it really pees you off why cant the browser have back and forward button?
