LOL...I'm in the same situation. I recently got my wife N97 and really envy the screen popping design. Also, overall I think the built quality is better than N900.

99% of the time I hold my N900 in my hands, so for me it's not an issue. On the other hand, I saw a HTC phone(can't remember the name) where you can slide it out just like on the N900, and then tilt the screen. That would be truly useful, especially if you could have it tilted 90 degrees :D

My 2 cents.

I'm on Three Sweden and have a data package for ~12USD which lets me use unlimited data(after 20GB they limit the speed to 386kbps, 3G speed). In two weeks I've used up 500MB, so using up 20GB is probably not going to happen :D

Well I got round that because I have broadband add on. Is it possible using the default msn to do video calls?

Re: N97 vs n900

I swapped my N97 for N900 and never look back since.

Yes, N900 still lacks of stuffs that N97 had but I've come to terms with it and found alternatives:

Office = Google docs (need to be online though)
MSN = Pidgin Plugin for Conversations (worked very well)
Browser = MicroB beats N97's browser hands down
Media Player = N900 can play divX/Xvid/MP4/RMVB with extra decoder support installed. In addition, external subtitles can be displayed with subtitle support installed. N97 can't beat this.
Navigatin = I just go back to map reading techniques :p

All in all, I love my N900 :D

On the software side of the coin Id like to say N97 but I am aware people managing the same with the N900 there is no clear winner since.

N97:
Office
MSN
OPERA
CORE PLAYER
.RAR
Iplayer

Many more.

The N900 before I install similar software I am told to be aware I may brick the phone since its not fully developed for the phone.

Im not enjoying my time with the N900 since Im struggling to find similar software at OVI or at maemo.org, when I do find software there is a disclaimer warning that I may mess up the phone if put a foot wrong.

Unfortunately I still have to rely on my N97 until the software is available for the N900 with any need to enter some command line etc

How many of you manage to make the N900 your primary device and also get the same or better results than your previous handset?

You have managed ways round it. It should not be that way. Before the phone was released Nokia should have got 3rd part Devs already working to release software in time for release. Its been months since release and little progress.

Wait? So N97 had software that you said in first message out of box?

I hope that you also remember that N97 symbian software has been ready before N97 launch. I know that itīs not good excuse, but quite small application supply right no to N900 is not surprise.

Months? Two?

"You have managed ways round it" and what have you done with installing 3rd party software to N97. I don't completely understand you.

Re: N97 vs n900

Basically Only feature I'm working my way around is only Office and Navigation.

The rest is already available in the repositories (abeit some are still in development/testing phase) but they worked just fine for me :D

Maemo 5, compared to Symbian 5th Edition, is still in its infancy but I can see apps popping up pretty fast. In fact, I have never seen Symbian apps being developed that fast before, and all these credits go to this great community :D

And talking about little progress, Skype integration was promised on N97 before launch.. and more than 6 months since launch, I still couldn't smell a hint of it :D

I do like N900 I really think is way better than N97 it just need more support from Nokia the real problem is maemo does not have the main symbian apps that makes other Nokia`s smartphones powerful (OVI MAPS, SPORTS TRAKER ( I really miss this one), OVI SUITE support, not even OVI STORE is at 100%) and this are not 3rd party.

Re: N97 vs n900

Havent owned an n97 and after having the n900 dont think id ever need to go back to another fone..I guess the browsing itself is leagues ahead of any current smart phone in the market today..So i guess disappointment is outta the question for n900 users.
