Actually I find the device so useful that I ended up putting up with 2 WSOD within 2 weeks on 2 separate units. But since my home entertainment, lights, and NAS, are Linux centric, the 770 has proved invaluable. Oh, also am using google talk as a sip VoIP phone, and GAIM for my IM. Can't provide enough praise for maemo-mapper running on the device. Thankfully I've gone through my 1st month with the unit, countless reboots, app installs, and the unit seems to be running like charm (IE, no WSOD)

I agree entirely. Put that feature in the next 770 update, and stabilize the browser a bit more. Considering I've never been a Pocket PC user, I've heard horror stories about people having installed more than 10 applications on those things and crippling basic functionality afterwards. Not with the 770. I could put 30+ apps on this thing and it still runs smooth as silk.

You can get it even better on the 770 if you can gain root. How often do you actually need the menu hardware key? Never? Good, here we go...

1. Become root
2. Open the file /etc/matchbox/kbdconfig in a text-editor
3. The file is usually empty. Just append the line F4=next
4. Save the file and run the command matchbox-remote -keys-reload or restart the N770
5. Enjoy the easy task switching by pressing the menu key!

Oh, and there's this hearsay about the N800's backup saving the repositories list. Why do we still have to do it by hand in xterm ?

Nice hack pycage. Thanks! But you know, it would also be great if someone were to write a tweak UI app that automates this and other minor hacks. I know there are still some nervous users out there fearful of "breaking" something.

Nice one.. is there a way to get the "down" key of the 5-way butto to be 'next page' in the browser or pdf viewer?

We should collect a bunch of nice hacks and then write such a tool. :D

Nice trick, but as I run most apps full screen I use the Menu key *all the time*... so I'd really like it on the Home key as it's meant to be :-)

For Opera (on the 770 at least) it can be done in opera.ini.
This is documented in the maemo wiki Howtos.

Yes, I'd also prefer this on the home key. But it's not easy/possible to stop it from going back to the home screen (as this is not handled by the window manager). So I went for the menu key.

Ah, thanks. I'll look for it.
