now who's being picky?

I don't know what Nokia's up to, but I can say that at one point when my old department was short on space for student workers, we discussed rack mounting them. They were a reasonably fit bunch, so 6RU each probably would have done the job. Their rackable depth was an issue, of course, but one of the students volunteered to amputate his own legs in return for a 25¢/hour raise.

You really only need the torso, with head and hands, and you can mount 'em horizontally.

I'm not an expert on cell phone history, but I remember the N80 being one of the first, if not the first, slider in the US.

when I first got it in 2006 (and paid $600 bucks for it might I add) people were amazed at how a keypad slided out!

I'm referring to where the article points out Nokia is slow to catch on to trends like clamshell.

Yep, that was the idea. About 6RU for a torso mounted horizontally, with the head and arms out the front of the rack to reach the keyboard and mouse.

Our director vetoed the plan though, so we moved on to working out how to fly a second level of desks and chairs from a grid. No where near the density of student coders permitted by the rack system, but more "humane" I suppose.

(And yes, our director axed the suspended work areas plan too. Something about potential falls.)

In my opinion N900 is much more superior than iphone.

About moving to sylicom valley I see more like a consequence of the merging of movilphones industry and computer industry.

But it is very nice that nokia knows where they are. I think that it made them the number oe and it will do them stay in the numer one!

How many times do people have to say that the N900 is NOT Nokia's flagship phone..
Show me the part where he said it was their flagship PHONE?

Still doesn't explain why Nokia should treat the s60 owners any better..
They get a firmware update once a year and have little say in how the OS is developed.. #define "better"

To get back to the OP's link, it's an article well worth reading. It is not US centric and stresses Nokia's global lead in both the software (Symbian) and hardware arenas. And as far as the OP's post itself, Kallasvuo was the one who said Silicon Valley was their competition and Nokia has been talking about needing to get into the US market since the CDMA lawsuits were settled.

The Kallasvuo quote I was struck by is: "I see great opportunity for Nokia to capture new growth in our industry by creating what we expect to be the world's biggest platform for services on the mobile" i.e. a focus on the Ovi store. More and more, it seems that both average and intelligent consumers are focusing more on the capabilities of phones as defined by the apps available as opposed to the OS or hardware.

LOL, the Japanese have actually implemented similar strategy for their 'transportable units' in capsule hotels...

It's just a matter of waiting land costs to go up a bit more, before we see rack-mountable salarymen.

Erm, call me picky but isn't the N97 officially the current flagship?
