Re: Can my N900 replace my ipod (including in my BMW)?
Tv would need video dsp and hdmi output circuitry, we're not building that ina shed, but without apple on the case, that one could go commercial by finding the right company.
Although, can the video be software grabbed the same as the audio??? Anyone confirm this ? |

The BT Audio functionality is really just a nice offshoot of the BlueTooth hands-free system in the car. If you've got anything similar in your car, you should look to see if it supports the A2DP profile and you might be able to do something similar.. Sometimes it's even possible to upgrade the software in the audio system to support things like that, so checking with the BMW dealer or enthusiast forums might be a good idea. Otherwise, as others have said, the FM-Transmitter in the N900 will let you listen to your music without needing any wires as long as you can find an open frequency. IMO the biggest drawback with FMTX is that you need to use the media player controls on the N900 to switch tracks, etc., and they are NOT driver friendly. |

but with a bluetooth box any phone with bluetooth streaming could be used, you wouldn't need anything in the repositories as the only extra software required would be built into the box. if you get the box built i'm sure many companies would be willing to run with it, and even *gasp* pay apple a licence if need be. |

It's a standard USB where you connect your ipod cable, isn't it? At least that's how it is in mine; the usb is under the armrest and next to it is a line-in. In that usb connector you can connect your ipod, flash or any standard mass storage device (including the N900). The usb connection works as expected, the playback is controlled by the car's stereo and charges at the same time the phone. I prefer to use though the line-in because I want to have the ability to use the map application + i find it to boring to connect/disconnect cables and in the usb i have a 16GB tiny flash stick permanently. Finally, I have found quite easy to make the FM transmitter to work but I wasn't impressed by the quality of the sound, but this really depends on the type of music you usually listen and the stereo system installed. Hope it helps. |

great place to start:
http://ipodlinux.org/wiki/Dock_Connector http://ipodlinux.org/wiki/Apple_Accessory_Protocol BMW are a MeeGo partner now so maybe they will offer a solution in the future. |

- A solid music/media player on MeeGo - A working online music store that can integrate with MeeGo's media ecosystem - More than one MeeGo device available to purchase - Proper marketing blitz to wrap all this together Soo.... don't hold your breath for it just yet :) |
