FWIW I don't think IR port is ever mentioned in official nokia specs for the N900, so its presence is more of a bonus feature than a missing one. :)

The sales guy should spin it into something like "It even comes with a ... shhhh... don't tell anyone, but a hidden FM radio and IR port. You need to get a secret program online to unlock them... I normally don't tell people this, but you look like the kind of person who is into having some special features like that"
