And i agree about the functionality. Irreco is still a pretty raw application. But i intend to develop it on the long run to be more robust tool for controlling different thins. The real strenght and feature of this first release is the layout editor where you can drag buttons around. Better support for devices to be controlled is on the works. I also updated the weppage with nice pic how Irreco works. http://irreco.garage.maemo.org/ |

Ofcourse, if you want a remote which actually has fysical buttons, then you have a point. I think N800 can do anything those fancy universal remotes do, if you just write the software for it. And N800 does have a usb port, so it could be possible to attach Ir leds directly to N800. |

Re: Making the N800 into Universal Remot
What about going wild and replacing the built in "camera" with an IR transceiver in the same form-factor?
I guess it depends on if the camera is soldered in place, and what drives it, and things like that. If the chipset is capable of driving an image out in that fashion or something. It certanly seems that the camera was "not fully thought out" in the new days of 7mp cameras... Cheers, Chaoszeus |
Re: Making the N800 into Universal Remot
Know of any bluetooth-to-ir devices or similar? Could be the basis of a solution without modding the 770/800.

IRTrans Ethernet is ok if nw connection nearby. A small battery powered BT2IR unit would be ideal IMHO.
