According to a quick google scholar search http://www.freepatentsonline.com/y2009/0038664.html

Indicates at least 20KHz

Another search seems to suggest that the range of frequencies smartphone speakers can output is only 300 to 4k to be exact (EX Smartphone audio engineer)

Sorry doesn't look good?

ok but what kHz is the antimosquito sound ? I think that is something simillar beacause of the warning about dogs and cats when start the app.And n900 play it?

Why not get yourself some pepper spray or make your own and use this?

Well lets just say it's 4KHz Max. Scaring a cat is one thing, you can cause a sensitive cat distress quite easily, hence the warning.

Deterring and angry/aggressive dog is a different matter, you would have to cause it discomfort, the dB level would have to be quite high. Probably more than the N900 can produce?

Well im pretty sure our N900 can produce beyond 4Khz as you stated it was for smart-phones in general, looking at the speakers i know that they can go way beyond that, an take it from someone that been building HiFi for over 10 years, and have also made a very small speaker set made by the very speakers that's in our N900/N95

But yes on the dB level, that's why i would say a dog whistle is a better choice, it hits the high note (that we can't hear) and like a normal whistle it does generate some dB

EDIT: Not saying that this is impossible tho

I don't know if this helps:
Code:

gst-launch-0.10 audiotestsrc freq=440 ! audioconvert ! pulsesink
(needs gstreamer0.10-tools)

You can change the frequency parameter from 0 to 20000.

(Don't forget, you won't hear any sound while the silent profile
is active)

2 Attachment(s)
And a more advanced version:
(needs gstreamer0.10-plugins-good-extra
and python-gst0.10)

You'd be much better off with a dedicated unit, quicker and easier to operate.
Something like this.

Like i said ultrasound baby :)

Our N900 can do about anything, but for some purposes i prefer direct "tools", like flash light, the N900 has a good flash light function but compared to my DIY 50W Led flash light there is no question what i use, N900 will light up a path in front of me, my 50W lights the hole neighbourhood, and i really mean the hole neighbourhood.
