They obviously expect Nokia being bought by MS soon.

Good point made there that in no way could MS allow anyone else to buy Nokia. That just can't happen. And M$ has the resources to make sure it doesn't.

But...wouldn't it be great to see Intel buy Nokia and put out a bunch of MeeeGo stuff? That would really frost M$.

I think the wiser question would be... who would want to buy Nokia now? The WP7 deal, the downward spiral, the lack of higher priced tier phone releases - no real N-Series since the N8 and it was a Symbian phone which is also being phased out... seriously.

Nokia doesn't look good to anybody other than Microsoft at this moment. It's like MS pissed on all four corners, marking their territory on this deal.

Not sure there is anybody else out there that both could and would.

Google paid +60% over market cap for Motorola. That would make Nokia, even with post Elopcalypse share prices, very expensive purchase. 30 billion or more in Dollars. Very few corporations could afford that price. Most that could do not have any need for Nokia.

Let's see, current NOK price 6.17*1.6 ~= 9.9.....it's just a barely more than the max. over the past six month. Elop did a good job making Nokia a delicious company for buyout.:D

Never say never.

Why should Microsoft buy Nokia?
Nokia is already doing what Microsoft need and want. And if WP7 fails Microsoft is able to move on... Nokia has currently the full risk.

But what about this funny thought: What if Intel will buy Nokia?

Buy Nokia, create a second division for MobileComputerPhones with MeeGo and kick the WP7 niche to where they come from. :D

Interesting conjecture! That could throw a huge wrench into WP7 plans, and possibly boost MeeGo quite a bit. And Nokia stock IS low enough for a hostile takeover...

I think Helmuth is onto something.

That would depend on how much intel is willing to piss off microsoft and ruin their relationship, although I suppose MS fired the first shot announcing it will support arm with win 8

Yes,

I think Nokia is obvious target for Intel. Because Intel now is a biggest loser on mobile market. And Intel had and still has some working relationship with M$

EDIT: Rumor is that Nokia still floats because Apple pays $0.5bln patent royalties to Nokia...
