It's the same functionality, just that instead of it being in a small icon on the bottom left of the screen, you're wasting a ton of space constantly displaying it across the top.

They can be confused by it because the N800 isn't a desktop and no other program that runs on the N800 works that way. Therefore it goes against user expectations. I thought we wanted a more consistant UI, not a more fragmented one.

My heartburn with the current multiwindow mode is that I have accidentally closed the wrong browser window many, many times... and through no direct fault of my own. It seems to be a lag problem, where I change to the window I want to close, close it, then watch in dismay as a window I wanted to keep is closed instead. I am so used to tabs now (and in fact use them heavily in my own programming to conserve real estate) that it's much, much easier for me to manage multiple web sessions with them.

I've used the tabs feature in Minimo on the 770 and found it just as useful as on a desktop, especially in full-screen mode (and on the 770 the home button's behaviour is reversed). I'll vote yes.

I voted for it initially, but have now removed that vote. the functionality I really want is to open windows in the background, and tabs plus middle-click is the way I do that on the desktop. the list of current windows in full-screen mode is available by pressing the 'home' button, or navigating into the 'windows' menu starting from the 'menu' button.

I agree that it is better to save the screen real estate when multiple windows are open.

This bugged me too until I found that pressing the home key listed the windows with an x next to them to close the window. That is the main way I close windows now when having multiples open while browsing.

Say whatever you want about duplicating functionality against the multi-window setup, but I don't see it--the window setup just doesn't work well. It not only takes more taps to get to the window list (tap/click, find the window you're looking for, tap, wait . . . not what I would call fast or convenient) but it takes time and unnecessary effort to locate your window. With tabs, you're always able to quickly locate, and switch to, the page you want. Tabs make it a helluva lot easy to que up pages to read, especially with forums and news sites.

Really, how much time is it actually going to take to code the UI changes to get tabs? You may be a sucker for punishment, but I like my browsing experience to something I enjoy.

Aside: think we could get a "Posted from N800" option? :P

I have to say that I feel quite the opposite way on this. You already know where your other windows are.. all grouped under the same icon.

Something we can agree on. ;)

I like tabs just fine, but having them is very low priority for me considering the early beta state of the browser. I'd rather the developers focus on other things for now and revisit the tab issue way down the line.

Wouldn't it be cool if users had the choice of more than one type of view mode, including tabs?

:D
