in settings, profile, turning all your sounds off, leaving messages and calls saves battery by not playing sounds all the time!
NOTE: you wont hear the dying batter or the charging start sounds... but it's worth while!
:)

Oh for the love of.... I just now am seeing this.

Will everyone just STOP using this stupid speedpatch? This is like the 80th thread where people are having slow systems with poor battery life because of speedpatch and/or batterypatch.

Don't ever install anything with the word "patch" in it. I've yet to see one person it's helped, and dozens complaining that their system has issues because of it. Just do a power-search on speedpatch and you'll find nothing but woe. Why anyone would think it's a good idea to install a "patch" is beyond me.

Sadly, uninstalling it doesn't undo what's been done in most cases. The "patch" tweaks values in your system settings, so uninstalling the offending script just deletes the files that screwed your system up.

I would advise a re-flash at this point... backup your contacts and such, re-flash with 1.3, and start afresh. Probably for the best anyway, since it gets rid of all the misc crap that could be on there from the previous owner too. :)

Good luck!

I reflashed it as soon as I got it. Keep in mind, I had speedpatch on a trial basis, to see if I took any benefits from it. I'll uninstall it.

I know it may sound stupid but switching to GSM reception instead of dual or 3G may save you a lot!

Yep, did that.

Bode,

I am afraid there is no trial-install option for those speed "patches" is there? If you had those "patches" installed, you'd do yourself a great favor by reflashing and erasing anything related to it.

If you're a bit of a hacker, you'll find out how to tweak your device manually by other means. Install KP49, QCPUFreq and see if your device works well with SmartReflex.

Yep, I already tweaked the phone a bit, using KP49 and kernel-config. It fortunately works well with smart reflex; I'm running a modified DSP profile as I mentioned earlier.

I assumed that the speed patch was easy to remove, a matter of apt-get purge'ing. My mistake :(

While removing a script or app is quite easy, removing things that it may have touched (gconf settings, kernel parameters it may have tweaked, etc) are not. Buying a blender with a new feature and returning it to the store is easy. Cleaning up the mess it makes because the "air vent feature" spewed diced strawberries all over your kitchen is not. :)

This is one of the benefits of things like BackupMenu. It takes a full os snapshot of the system (config files included), which can be used to literally restore/wipe any changes made by a program (or you) while experimenting. It can be like using an hand-grenade to kill an ant at times, but when that's the only real tool you have... ;)
