I wrote this to an another thread earlier.

I am quite sure that this is programming bug in Maps software.

You can test location switching the N9 to flight mode (=no network connection of any kind). Drive on highway, start Maps on N9 and place your N9 to the windscreen. You'll get the fix everytime.

If you try to get fix when you are stopped, you won't get fix.

That means GPS software needs motion. It hangs when standing at same location. Doesn't matter which options have been selected.

I think there is something wrong with the app itself, Sports Tracker gets a lock relatively quickly, maps perhaps 2 to 5 to 10 mins sometimes.

i saw this thread and thought it would be fun to test. I'm in Bordeaux France for work. I did use gps there but not for a couple days now. I hope on TGV to paris. Half way through i remember about this thread and fired up Drive, put phone to window and about one minute, i get lock and i'm cruising at 298km/hr

that said, the phone seems to have trouble keeping accurate velocity at that speed

maps is offline mode cause of data cost.

i get lock in a minute or so, I do use AGPS, I live in UK, never really had any problems with the GPS, in different locations or at home.

uhm, i think my gps get locked in just a minute now, may be in the past the phone has problem, just reflash it :) base on the area, you can switch between nokia gps and google gps to get better service. Uses the n9qtweak mode G to change the setting, remember supl force off mode is better @@

My experience after a 5 day trip abroad (Rome); GPS lock on every time in 5 to 30 seconds. Every four times out of five in under 15 seconds, and most often instant approximated location by cellular positioning.

Powersaving off and no data connections allowed.
Pre-loaded maps and Nokia Maps in offline mode.
Normal cellular enabled, both 2g and 3g.

The cell tower based fast positioning seems to work well at least in some countries as without it the GPS lock on indeed would be that 10 to 20 minutes.

I bought recently White N9 and comparing to my Black N9

the Black N9 is Great with GPS and locks instantly!
but the white one never locks or take forever! u think flashing?
