Gahh! I'm getting confused again.. I really need a Open mode vs Inception thread. Why do you prefer inception over open-mode then? Someone was arguing about Inception being bad because it's using an exploit which is not well-received by a number of people. But there must be some differences between them in terms of performance/compatibility. What are the ups and downs?:confused::confused::confused:

The main advantage of INCEPTION is that it's by far the easiest way to open up your N950 - it takes a few minutes to install, and you can get rid of it just as easily. Once it's set up, you can install apps that utilize any capability on the phone, including those forbidden by Nokia. The main disadvantage is that you can't run NITDroid or anything else that requires a custom kernel without going into open mode.

The main advantage of open mode is that it gives you control of the phone from the kernel on up. The disadvantage is that the warranty might be voided, and there's a disclaimer message that tells you that at every power-on (there's a workaround to disable it though). Also, you can't set a lock code and it's much more difficult to upgrade the OS from open mode. If using open mode, it's vital that you disable the disclaimer, then reflash the phone completely without rebooting, then trigger open mode before allowing the phone to boot. Otherwise, you'll experience a number of issues related to switching from normal mode to open mode.

Unless you're using a custom kernel, there's no real reason to use open mode. Even if you do use open mode, it's a good idea to install the new version of INCEPTION, as it includes the ariadne utility that makes using the terminal more convenient.

The following commands are more or less equivalent:

Code:

# INCEPTION way
/usr/sbin/incept package.deb
# open mode way
AEGIS_FIXED_ORIGIN=com.nokia.maemo dpkg -i package.deb

Like... Alarm not working, Wifi tethering not working, and stuff like that? Damn, I think this is what I experience since I went in Openmode by accident (yes, by accident, I just followed a how-to to recover from a boot loop without full reflash). Is it possible to fix the issues without full reflash? I'd like to keep all my settings/installed applications/homescreen settings, and so on, if possible of course. Or is it possible to revert from Open mode to genuine Nokia kernel without full reflash (and then, try the PR1.3!)?

Of all the N950 threads you could've posted in or started, any special reason why you posted in THIS N950 thread?
Have you read this thread?

Which thread you think he should post to? Is there any reason that he shouldn't post in this thread? If he post in an old thread then as far as I know "someone" will say he shouldn't dig tombs.

Hey this is just a forum! Every post related to the thread should be welcomed! He didn't start a new thread.

Let me clarify, try reading at least the 2nd & 3rd pages to understand why it's a poor choice of threads to revive. Do that, & then you'll see why.
If anything, starting a new thread would've been the most ideal approach, very odd that he'd post it here don't you think (again, read the thread).
