I have an Otterbox case for my N900 and the first thibg I did was cut out the silicon covers. Too much stress on the USB connector of the N900.

I beg to differ. The silicon does bend as you're inserting it into the USB connector, unlike the actual USB male connector. More importantly, the silicon cover protects the entry point for unwanted particles. I make trips to fine sand beaches on a weekly basis and always get sand on no matter how careful I am.
