Re: 2.2.0 EA / Mouhijoki

Two of my three J1's updated smoothly. Today I noticed that the one I use for listening music (original media player) did not find anything to play. I have around 12 GB of flac-files on 200GB sdcard (ext4). Checked with file browser, the files were there. Tried even opening one with the file browser and it woke the media player. So far so good. But it was plying list of one song. So I thought that indexing was issue and wiped the index with the auxiliary settings application. Didn't work. rebooted phone, no help. Reinstalled player. No change. A new reboot and then presto, player found my music files.

Now there is one J1 to go, and Xperia X. I have negletted the Sony, but I guess I need to spend some quality time with it too.

@olympus, this seems to be worth being filed as a bug report on TJC, doesn't it?
(Without indicating this, Jolla probably won't be aware of it and fix it.)

You play them from playlist, right?
If yes, you need to modify the playlist, because the sdcard path changed, the old playlist still in old path

This was driving me insane. Now it's pretty nice.

That is enough to make me update immediately.

No, I usually just choose "All files" and random play. But that was kind of hard to do since no music was available. But now it works.

I wish I were that cool. My "playlist" is always an album. Which means one directory ("folder" in Microsoft-speak). Which means media players that insist on tags and cannot play by the directory structure (such as the stock Jolla's, unless that has changed in recent years, I never bothered to try after the initial disappointment) are totally useless to me ;)

Indeed, according to Jolla, and as seen on my Jolla 1 (waiting for the final release to upgrade my daily Xperia), they've switched away from their mout-sd.sh script and now use udiskctl (like almost every other GNU/Linux distro) to mount the SD card.

The SD cards aren't mounted into /media/sdcard/{UUID}, but in /run/media/{USERNAME=nemo}/{LABEL}. (There's only one loged-in user on sailfish, so the USERNAME part is always going to be nemo).

There's a symlink, so scripts search inside /media aren't completely lost.

But the path name has definitely changed (UUID vs LABEL, anyway), so Jolla tells you (and I can confirm) that you need to set the output path again in "Settings -> Apps -> Camera".

Probably that other apps will need new paths, too.
(Almost sure that OSM Scout server will need).

That seems weird. Have you ruled out partition corrurption ? What filesystem are your using on the card? (Fat32, exFAT + FUSE, ext4, btrfs/f2fs/udf ?)

Only the Sailfish stuff around alien dalvik updated with this release.

For the record, it is not technically possible for Alien Dalvik to be anything more recent than Android 4.4 KitKat
As the name indicates, Myriad's software is an implementation of the Dalvik JIT-based JVM-like engine. That on is used up to 4.4 KitKat.
Starting from Android 5 Lollipop, Google switched to a completely different approach, "Android Runtime", with is AOT (Ahead of time: when a app is installed, the Java-like bytecode is compiled to native code) instead of using the JITting engine.

If Jolla wants Adroid 5+ in Sailfish OS 3, they'll probably switch to something else.
(Does Myriad have ART ? Has andbox progressed to the point that it can work nicely with most applications on Sailfish OS ?)

Both problem solved !

Since it's officially released, would be nice to have a guide for current F5122 users on how to install 2.2.0 without reflashing.

Horrible first experience on my Jollified Aquafish. Slower even after restart, Android apps not running, patches not working. Rolling back right away

Edit: when i update, Google services stopped working. Rolled back to previous version and still don't work. I need some help please

I dont´t know how clever that is as the release notes clearly states not to update that way.

Code:

NOTE: If you have a Sony Xperia X dual SIM device (model F5122) running Sailfish X already, please install the official F5122 image of this update 2.2.0.29 (by "flashing" the device - see chapter 6 in https://jolla.com/sailfishxinstall/). Do not try to update your device over-the-air, as your existing device software was never meant to be used in F5122 devices. Flashing the device with update 2.2.0.29 now will ensure that it will work fine and that upcoming over-the-air updates can be installed successfully.

I remember seeing an old list somewhere with versions you'd be able to safely skip using command line, but I can't find it. Anyway, installing them step by step is the safe option. I'd advise to just let it do it's thing while doing something else and just check every 15 minutes or so. :)

Had to reflash my Aigo tablet.
With autoupdates from 1.1.9.13 had to update till Saimaa (2.0.0.10), then it finds Mouhijoki (2.2.0.29)

For once, I have to agree with Mr Scam. I don't see how Mouhijoki deserved a version number increase.

Incidentally, is this new or did I just not see it before? There seems to be some rudimentary and very crude attempt at some kind of autocorrect in Email. The way it demonstrates itself seems rather random and hard to reproduce at will. Sometimes, when I notice a mistake and go back to correct it, the damn thing does something totally weird and completely muddles up not just the word I am correcting but also the one before or after it.

Come to think of it, maybe it has something to do with the "keyboard with arrows" patch I am using. I need to run a few more experiments to check if arrows are involved every time it happens.

Most of the work went into various MTK chip support for the INOI devices they showed off at MWC this year.

and from that perspective, a lot changed.

also, originally it was supposed to be 2.1.5, they later changed their mind

PS Couldn't update my X dual official way: it rebooted, and then said the update couldn't complete. Oh well, seems like I'll wait for 3.0 release and then reflash.

Yes, it is.

However you need to use the one from the Patchmanager catalogue, not the one from Openrepos which is hopelessly out of date.

Isn't it wonderful that we can install patches from so many sources? It is not confusing at all. Honest, guv!

Looks like typing is more consistent now, much less wrong keys pressed than in previous versions.

I can quantify my typing errors like this:
-before: in every word.
-now: in every fifth or more words

You have always agreed with me. You simply haven’t understood that until now. ;) It’s just that my English is so poor that I don’t get my message across as intended.

And since the scam continues all around us, I fear that jolla will start $$$ for updates to get rid of the scam.

Something like: You can wait forever and we pay you back once we have billions of dollars in an russian bank account or you can buy this 2.4.3.1 OmpaScubaJarvi for $100

It’s always nice to be reminded of the great scam. I had almost forgot about it. Or is it: almost forgotten.

I’m happy if this is the last update as we know it.

Solve the refund, the android update and other stuff and make sure users can use the services even if jolla can’t provide it.

If you don't see white bar during installation, it's NOT says tablet stack or something, just continue to wait until tablet will restart it self (maybe few times)...

All stock Sailfish apps are very basic. They kind of do the job but do not excite anyone. I have always considered them no more than proof of concept. "Look it can be done, now it is your turn to make a better one!" Unfortunately, due to a lack of devs' interest, partly because Sailfish is such a negligible platform and partly because of Jolla's disastrous decision to include Android support, that is never going to happen and we are going to be stuck with what we have.

Currently the Jolla strategy seem to always include even the first device in update (so they can show to compete nicely on long-term support).
And limit the premium care over time (1 year).

(You will be able to get 3.1.0.69 "WhateverLakeBj0rk", but you won't be able to file tickets on the official care service if the update suddenly eats your data
Wait would *that* be their future financing plan, extorting people thorugh buggy update ? I though Microsoft patented that business plan exclusively...).

I doubt they'll manage to do it in any short time.
They receive some money from investors, but the investors wouldn't be happy if money isn't invested into what they would like but into some pure-PR refunds.
The only money they can manage to put into refund is any pure profits they make, and they aren't making that much currently.
