Didn't find anything high, or lack of imagination, but I can still vote.

My vote goes to
12. juiceme http://www.swagman.org/juice/skykittens.png And a special mention to mosen because Lokalpatriotismus and "the Ruhrpott". It's also a really nice picture. |
Re: Camera phone competition January 2020: HIGH
My vote goes to
12. juiceme - SFOS/XperiaX, cropping in Gimp http://www.swagman.org/juice/skykittens.png And I also like 3. DDark - Pro1, Stock Camera, unedited https://i.ibb.co/XxFmz6m/09927-EC6-F...-A56388-B6.jpg Thank you. Best wishes. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Per aspera ad astra... |
Re: Camera phone competition January 2020: HIGH
1. Maemish - BlessN900 with just a slight crop from the sides
- The church stands tall and high... or maybe it is the statue of czar Alexander which is high up there? Nicely balanced night shot with the lightshow. 2. Ken-Young - Andromeda Galaxy taken with a Pixel 4 XL in "astrophotography mode" - Now that one is high indeed! I had no idea that Pixel is capable of such shots. if this has indeed been taken without additional optics then it is very impressive! 3. DDark - Pro1, Stock Camera, unedited - High vantage, nice building masses and interesting futuristic detail in the "skyship" thing up there on the skysrapers! 4. mscion - Huawei Mate 20 pro. No effects. - Very good compostiton showing the contrasting old and new "high"... The pigeon really tops the bill, awesome! Too bad the size of the image is just too small, if it was larger we'd have absolute winner here! 5. nonsuch - Taken with a OnePlus 3, Open Camera. Resized & slightly sharpened the top half in GIMP. - This is GOOD! The way the branches seem to form a kind of vortex tha stands clearly away from the trunk is awesome! 6. catbus - Nokia N9 - Scaled by Gimp. Lightning by: "Almost full moon" - A bit difficult to determine WHAT this actually is? Judging from history I am somehow led to believe it might be a reflection of night sky on an antomobile bonnett? 7. jellyroll - Phone: BlackBerry Passport Stock camera, Mental state: Sober - So supposedly one needs to be pretty HIGH and FAR OUT to see these guys? 8. ric9K - N900 on fcamera, manual focus, manual white balance, manual exposure time. Developed with darktable: vignette, monochrome, tiny orange virage in highlights, 5200 ISO grain. -What can I say, it's not really high but the grain indeed is fantastic! 9. Pentona - Xpera 10 Plus, cropped only, with the unwanted and mysterious black dot pattern provided by the phone - Yep, he's sailing high indeed. Nice capture against peaceful sky. 10. pichlo - Jolla 1 - Fits the theme well but I'd want to see more of the lovely house :) 11. Koiruus - Taken with Pro1, some exposure correction made with Google Photos - A bit stretching the theme. really :) 12. juiceme - "Winter kittens climbing high in January", SFOS/XperiaX, cropping in Gimp - The limitations of the XperiaX camera on SFOS are visible; even though the colors are natural and balanced the focusing is reallly crappy. (I just remembered that I also have the "advanced Camera" application also, have to check if that is better than the stock camera in this respect) 13. mosen - Proš using Piggz Advanced Camera, some contrast added and cropped in Darktable. - Good vantage point and beautifully curling river and parkside. Dark clouds add drame to the picture! 14. john_god - Samsung Galaxy J4+, no editing - Again, stretching the theme. Otherwice very nice landscape. Lots of really good pictures again. I was pondering between @ddark, @mscion and @catbus here... and my vote goes to 3. DDark (I don't know what the building is but it sure looks nice!) |
Re: Camera phone competition January 2020: HIGH
My vote goes to n4, i like the building and bird in the sky. I also and to mention n5 i like that photo, the tree and sorrunding light.
|
Re: Camera phone competition January 2020: HIGH
I vote for 13. mosen, since the photo makes me actually feel a bit acrophobic. Honorable mention to Maemish for getting that nice picture out of the good old N900!
And to juiceme's question above: the piggz advanced camera is at least most of the time better at focusing on the Xperia than stock, but never worse. The only reason I can think of not to use it is it's less "Sailfishy" in the interface. E.g. there's a button instead of a swipe to view previously taken photo. |

https://talk.maemo.org/attachment.ph...1&d=1580564095If it still would be a competition I would post this. I have probably posted a better picture in better light once before. Now I have just first sat in togtal darkness in Finland in my friends summercottage only in the light of a fireplace having a chat. After that three hours playing canasta.
While playing I noticed this wall and the collation. We spent once three hours just measuring and watching what goes and where. For me everything is in their right place and watching this makes me feel high: not just how they are perfectly stationed in my and my friends eye but remembering of making it. Edit: Didn't notice the upload failed. Had to make it smaller. Brightnesx and contrast both over +40. Taken with BlessN900 without flash. Have been searfching in the fields today with metal detector with my friend. Couple of nails and some crap metal pieces. A lot of walking and fresh air. Also searched in the forest. Nothing. But now next to a fireplace and soon putting fire to the sauna. Feeling relaxed. |

I'm *amazed* by how good the Google Astrophotography mode is. A single 4 minute exposure detects stars as faint as magnitude 10, 25 times fainter than what the best human eye can detect at the darkest site. |

Here's a light pollution map: https://www.lightpollutionmap.info/#...FFFFFTFFFFFFFF As you can see in that map, there are *no* really dark areas in Iowa. Another issue is transparency. In the summers, there's quite a bit of dust in the air in farm country, and that hurts. Also in the summer, the air is often very turbulent, which hurts "seeing". Things are better on the transparency and seeing fronts in the winter, but boy do you pay a price for that in comfort! Quote:

Although hella scenic, it should be known that everything about the photo is staged. The milieu is an intentionally preserved 19th century neighborhood (The Village of East Davenport) hosting an event called the "Antique Tractor Show". They also host a national Pontiac Fiero show in the Autumn, which I believe draws all the operable examples of the 1980s GM oddity -- I'm talking 90 or more! Still super-fun for both me and my then 2-year-old. |

This is how your link shows on my screen. Notice Prague at the right edge. Hence my question in post #110. It must be a screen resolution thing or something. https://talk.maemo.org/attachment.ph...1&d=1580812951 ______________________________________________ (Please ignore the garbage below this line. It is there merely as a placeholder for the embedded image above.) |
Re: Camera phone competition January 2020: HIGH
Yep, smells like screen resolution detection and widening the map according to scale (nice feature!).
@pichlo: the garbage above can be avoided if one does not refer (IMG tags) the attachment within the post. Else it will be shown at bottom as linked description only.. So Inguess best way of attaching pictures is: upload, get the full link of that attachment and insert a picture link into your post? |
Re: Camera phone competition January 2020: HIGH

As far as I can tell, there are two ways of using an attachment:
The only way to make TMO scale the picture is to use the "[img]" tag, for which you need a full URL. My post #112 used that technique: uploaded the attachment, grabbed its URL and used the "[img]" tag. That's the properly displayed image. The garbage at the bottom is the attachment displayed as per point 1 above. As far as I know, there are only three ways of avoiding that garbage:
I tried uploading attachments in the past without using them but I found they get automatically deleted, so orphaned attachments will not work. Is there a proper solution? Well, yes, at least two. But both require some work on the side of our highly esteemed webmaster (juiceme, I bow to you again!).

Re: Camera phone competition January 2020: HIGH
1, upload attachment
2. copy link from the file in "current attachments" section via right click 3. Add that awkward-non-jpg suffix link as IMG tag 3a. maybe hit preview post so you see composition 4. Remove attachment, file still stays on server. 5. Post Post https://talk.maemo.org/attachment.ph...1&d=1580930872 |
Re: Camera phone competition January 2020: HIGH
OK, let's have a look, if I got it right...
That's the entry I should have made last month, but I fear it's a little bit late: http://talk.maemo.org/attachment.php...1&d=1580974956 By the way, there is still no February Theme for our competition. If Juiceme don't want to start a new competition, maybe one of the two second placed guys want to...??? |
