Re: F(x)tec announces Pro1 X with Lineage OS and Ubuntu touch
I had some small problems flashing the UBPorts image, but not the same or as bad as for n900user259. I couldn't get the device automatically recognised, so selected manually. Then the process appeared to have hung, but on reboot the bootloader was a UBPorts branded one (very pretty by the way). On second attempt things were smoother, still manually selected model, and it booted correctly.
I'm not a huge fan of UT (I have the original MX4 device with the latest image installed) but I thought it was worth trying out. I found a few issues, but nothing dealbreaking (couldn't get gps lock, no keyboard illumination, no ringing from the device when bluetooth headset connected (possibly, not confirmed, I saw it once at setup, but didn't go back to check later) I had a lot of problems flashing back to Sailfish. After reflash the device was stuck in a bootloop at the startup screen. Tried following Kabouiks TWRP guide, but I couldn't get that to work - complaints about not finding /vendor when installing from the zip file (tried via SD card and internal storage). Eventually flashed back to the original image, also via Kabouiks guide, then immediately installed the lastest SFOS image once I confirmed booting into Android (ugh!). All seems well now, back on SFOS, and it seems to have cured the bluetooth issue I had after flashing to 3.4 a few days ago. :) |
Re: F(x)tec announces Pro1 X with Lineage OS and Ubuntu touch
Thank you for creating the post n900user259. Please ping me on IRC or Telegram (same nickname) when you have an answer, in case there is something to update in the guide. I really just put the new link to the reset package but did not change the commands, so indeed there may be more files than flash commands now. Also, I didn't notice the .bat file, but you're right that there is at least one error with userdata and weird things with vendor and system.

Re: F(x)tec announces Pro1 X with Lineage OS and Ubuntu touch
I have the same feeling as epninety about UBports. It's a good OS, well finished, but I still prefer Sailfish and Silica (unfortunately it's closed source, but still it's flexible thanks to patches, gestures are more parcimonious than they are in Lomiri, and multitasking and events are more convenient).
I have had the same issue with GPS, and another user too. Keyboard backlight can be activated manually with a "echo 1 > /sys/class/leds/keyboard-backlight/brightness", but there is no MCE to automate it, and it will be off again after the phone is locked. I am sorry to hear you've had issues flashing back to SailfishOS epninety. A general notice, everyone be careful with the guide if you are flashing to 3.4 because things changed significantly with LVM encryption, and I haven't done it yet, so it's very likely that things are now inaccurate in the guide. However, I heard there is now a "flash.sh" in the 3.4 SailfishOS image, so there shouldn't even be any need for TWRP to go back to SailfishOS, I assume everything is now done with fastboot. TWRP can still be useful for backups, but it may not be the only or even the simplest way to install Sailfish now. |
Re: F(x)tec announces Pro1 X with Lineage OS and Ubuntu touch
There is 'flash.sh' as you say, however it didn't produce a bootable install for me, coming from UBPorts. I had to manually flash back to android, using your excellent guide, then using 'flash.sh' got me back to SFOS.
I'm happy hacking around a PC, but not very familiar with Android, so it's possible (even likely) that I screwed something up, either on this, or some previous flashing episode, and it's only just become noticeable. |

Re: F(x)tec announces Pro1 X with Lineage OS and Ubuntu touch
Finally gave in and bought one, not sure how the numbering works as I'm number 2004 while there are only 1056 backers. Maybe nearly everyone wants a spare screen?

Re: F(x)tec announces Pro1 X with Lineage OS and Ubuntu touch
I just did a video comparing Ubuntu Touch and SailfishOS on the Pro1, in case it helps some people deciding whether they want it or not before the end of the campaign.
https://youtu.be/rgxrJj37xOs I added a link with the XDA's secret perk that makes the Pro1x cheaper than the Pro1. Please excuse the French omelette accent. |

And of course I really appreciate your video re: use of both OSes on the Fx tec Pro 1, since I hope to be getting mine soon (TM). Quote:
Because in French, one egg is "un oeuf". Ya. No one in my house laughed either. But it was a true story. And then I found five dollars. (That makes every story better, doesn't it?) PS: The verb you want is "set" which is the transitive form. "I set my bottom on the chair." vs "I sit on the chair." "Set" requires an object ("my bottom") but "sit" does not. This usage defies many a native speaker of English. PPS: Stuffy English teachers insist that there is no reflexive from in English. To which I reply: "I'll set myself down and think about that." But to conclude, big thanks for making the video! |

There are other things I forgot to mention or do, like describe xkb layouts in each OS, backlight not working yet in Ubuntu, explain that LXC allows running a full desktop while Libertine is meant to only run desktop applications, that there is LVM encryption in SFOS 3.4, that keybindings like copy/cut/paste and the use of Ctrl or Shift to select text work system wide in both, etc. I should really have prepared a detailed list and followed it. |

But no one except an English teacher would take any points off for swapping the two words, and I can't imagine any way it could cause confusion to use it "wrong". (Fun fact: the past tense of "set" is "set". Because English.) |

I bit the bullett just before the Indiegogo campaign expiration, touching wood that this is not going like the Youyota campaign!

I did, however place a direct order from F(x)tec (just before the Pro 1X announcement) so if I am amazingly lucky I'll get my device soon(TM). I'm gonna have to figure how to log back in to the company website to get an update. Haven't been able to for a while, and password reset email link takes me right back to the "send a password reset email" page . . . Woulda been cool to have the larger memory and storage and neat cover (and early early discount price) but what would I do with two Pro's? |

Re: F(x)tec announces Pro1 X with Lineage OS and Ubuntu touch
Do we know if the LineageOS edition of ProX1 come with Google Play services? If not, is MicroG available for this device?
In other words, can we use apps that need GMaps, FCM etc. under LineageOS? |
Re: F(x)tec announces Pro1 X with Lineage OS and Ubuntu touch
No idea with which version of google play services the Pro1X comes but with LineageOS, you can install any versions of it. This has to be flashed right afterLineageOS.
https://wiki.lineageos.org/gapps.html "Google apps should be installed via recovery immediately after installing LineageOS." https://opengapps.org/?api=10.0 |
Re: F(x)tec announces Pro1 X with Lineage OS and Ubuntu touch
Well Lineage would come preinstalled though.
Hope I wouldn't have to re-install just to be able to get GApps... |
Re: F(x)tec announces Pro1 X with Lineage OS and Ubuntu touch
What's the point of using LineageOS if you're going to use google apps anyway?

Re: F(x)tec announces Pro1 X with Lineage OS and Ubuntu touch
8 days since the 'update this week' message, no update.
Not worried and not sure what there could be to update anyway (in production, not supposed to be ready for well over a month so still hopeful of meeting shipping date) but why say it if they're not going to follow through. Unless there's something interesting regarding mainlining I don't know about? |

I've tried MicroG in the past, but as far as I understood it (may be completely wrong...?), you can't just install MicroG on top of any ROM you want, it needs to support signature spoofing, which regular LineageOS doesn't. So you need a special LOS version tailored to work with MicroG. That version does not seem to be avails for FxTec Pro1 (-X) (and neither for Sony Xperia 10, which I'd have liked to install it on). It's quite the mess trying to get a de-googled phone, if you don't buy it all set up and ready, like from /e/ - and you need those darnded Gapps-needing apps... |

Re: F(x)tec announces Pro1 X with Lineage OS and Ubuntu touch
Got a reply for my questions from Fx support in two days. Noticed that in the end of their reply is a disclaimer stating everything in the message is forbidden to share with any third party. So all I can say concerning talks here about missing news is that just wait a bit more.
|
Re: F(x)tec announces Pro1 X with Lineage OS and Ubuntu touch
So, there is no dual or multi-boot here, you must go with one of the three options, Lineage, Ubuntu or SailF?
Long time since I was on these boards :-) Still have my n900 as a treasured keepsake. |

They didn't say not to share your reaction so could you do that? A delay would be negative, a nothing 'still in production' neutral and something interesting positive? :D |

I didn't look for "pro1", but for "fxtec-pro1", as I thought that was its codename, as reported on PostmarketOS wiki. Do we know that a ROM that's made for the Pro1 will work on Pro1-X though? Also with the different editions with different storage and RAM. Afaik, the chipset is identical, no? |
Re: F(x)tec announces Pro1 X with Lineage OS and Ubuntu touch
I' m in a positive mood, that is why I said just wait a bit longer. I told them about missed news and can say they were aware of peoples need to here of them. Pretty sure they will share why there have been delays with news.

Bummer. I have my birthday on march and thought to get the Pro X. Now estimated in august. Well 48mp sensor is nice. How much slower the new chip actually is? My first indiegogo. But I accept the delay. I support making dreams come true. How hard times they are going through. Must be hard.

Re: F(x)tec announces Pro1 X with Lineage OS and Ubuntu touch
Why add another 50 'In Demand' slots at the weekend knowing they couldn't deliver what was advertised? That's really not good, even worse than the adding 50 units at a time twice before 'fear of missing out' marketing which I hate.
The mainlined kernel was the best feature, keyboard second and external monitor third, now one's a long way off if it happens at all and one's gone. An update a month ago "we're struggling to find chips" along with stopping taking orders and I'd have stuck with it but not sure now. I'm going to sleep on it. |
Re: F(x)tec announces Pro1 X with Lineage OS and Ubuntu touch
To cover up extra expencies and meet the budget, I suppose. They are not charity workers but doing business.

Re: F(x)tec announces Pro1 X with Lineage OS and Ubuntu touch
Just got my email last night that due to the lack of chips my Pro 1 order I placed would be converted to a Pro 1X order (with my choice of colors!*) but pushed back to August with the rest of the Pro 1X campaign backers. They did say I would be first in line, having already placed an order (just) before the campaign started. Kinda bummed at delay, now even later than Purism prediction, and I'm less and less eager to get the Purism phone every day now that I've tried the Phosh thing.
Either that pinephone of mine is gonna have to get daily driver ready with Sailfish, or I'm gonna need something else for while. Because the Xperia X has become unusable due to multiple hardware issues. I've got the OnePlus One running UBPorts, and it's daily driver capable, I just would rather be on SFOS and leave the Ubuntu phone at home for playing around. I'm open to suggestions . . . *Not a fan of funny colored phones. Told my family if I ever get a rose gold phone or a tattoo, they should take me for a psych eval stat. |
