Re: HOWTO: Free Landline Calls - Beta
Ah yes, I forgot you can do internet over bluetooth. Basically if your online (obviously not 56k or something extremely slow like that) as long as you can access the Grand Central page you can make calls.

Re: HOWTO: Free Landline Calls - Beta
It's been posted before, but if you want a GC number, go to the web site and click on "[Reserve] a number". You will probably have an invite in a day or so. That is what happened for me.
|
Re: HOWTO: Free Landline Calls - Beta
Lol, got my invite within an hour of reserving one.

Re: HOWTO: Free Landline Calls - Beta

Re: HOWTO: Free Landline Calls - Beta
For this to work does one need to pay for the inbound call feature
to get a 'real' gizmo #. GC did not see my gizmo # as a vaild # |
Re: HOWTO: Free Landline Calls - Beta
No you don't have to pay for the inbound call feature. GC should see it as a valid # (did you choose Gizmo in the drop down box?). Note, that when you first register with GC you need to provide them with a real phone # (landline or mobile) that they'll call to validate before you can add other phone #s (like Gizmo).

Re: HOWTO: Free Landline Calls - Beta
Can anybody make a desktop wigit for the outgoing calling function?
Thanks for the guide, My N810 should be arriving today! |
Re: HOWTO: Free Landline Calls - Beta
To make the mobile grand central site more finger friendly drop this into your userContent.css file ( search if you don't know how ).
@-moz-document url-prefix("http://www.grandcentral.com/mobile") { body { font-size: 1.5em !important; text-align: center !important; } font[size="1"] { font-size: 1.5em !important } font[size="2"] { font-size: 1.5em !important } font[size="1.5"] { font-size: 1.5em !important } font[size="6"] { font-size: 1.5em !important } table { width: 100% !important } td { margin: 15px !important } } |
Re: HOWTO: Free Landline Calls - Beta
thx brontide:
but my search bring me back to this page :( http://www.google.com/search?q=userc...G=Search&hl=en |
Re: HOWTO: Free Landline Calls - Beta
Drop the grandcentral as part of the search. Here is a link to one post that describe the process for making this forum look better on the tablets.
http://www.internettablettalk.com/fo...6&postcount=15 and a thread on restyling google reader... same idea, same file http://www.internettablettalk.com/fo...d.php?p=143892 |
Re: HOWTO: Free Landline Calls - Beta
This is not for the faint of heart, but maybe some hacker can turn this info into a quick-call applet. Here is the command line necessary to invoke click_to_call without opening the browser.
Code:
wget -O /dev/null -q --load-cookie=/home/user/.mozilla/microb/cookies.txt --referer=http://www.grandcentral.com/mobile/messages http://www.grandcentral.com/mobile/calls/click_to_call?destno=5185551212 One question... grandcentral though gizmo seems to screw with DTMF tones... is there any way to get the rtcomm to send "inband" tones rather than out of band signaling? |
Re: HOWTO: Free Landline Calls - Beta
I could use an invite to GC. Thanks

The "invitation" system is offline, has been for a while. Most people can get a number in a few days by "reserving" a number in their areacode. |
Re: HOWTO: Free Landline Calls - Beta
what if you live outside of USA, cause it only offers area codes for the states

Re: HOWTO: Free Landline Calls - Beta
DO NOT BUG ME... IT WILL BE DONE WHEN IT'S DONE. IF YOU ARE REALLY THAT IMPATIENT, ALL THE INFORMATION IS IN THIS FORUM, YOU JUST NEED TO PUT IT TOGETHER LIKE I DID
I have been able to wire up my call.sh to the proper URI handlers in the NIT and now I can click on sip: or tel: links in MicroB and it will initiate a GC callback outgoing call ( free to me ). It does not yet work with the contact list, but I'm working on that. |
Re: HOWTO: Free Landline Calls - Beta
Nice, (and I was wondering what the bold font was all about lol). I was wondering if that was possible, but I didn't have any motivation to try to do anything about it. Though I suppose if it does work that means I actually have to put contacts in my contacts list lol.

Re: HOWTO: Free Landline Calls - Beta
Invites have been down for at least a month and there is no sign of that changing anytime soon.

I am pleased to announce the release of Grandcentral_Dialer, a GUI python front-end to simplify placing calls via Grandcentral. The attached package provides a graphical "telephone style" dial pad to enter the phone number that you want to call, and submits that to Grandcentral. Requirements: * an account with Grandcentral * a device to answer your end of the phone call placed by Grandcentral to the number that you specify. This can be a landline, cell phone, or VOIP device, including your tablet. * the "wget" program installed on your tablet * a web "cookie", set by logging into http://www.grandcentral.com/mobile/messages from the microb browser on your tablet |
Re: HOWTO: Free Landline Calls - Beta
How do u install wget? I tried apt-get install wget but i get an error at the end. Its not in the application manager. I'm also having an error making calls. I go to the m.grandcentral.com. Hit call in my adressbook. The device gets the call and then when I open the default calling application, I can't hear the person on the other end. But the person on the other end can hear me. I can receive calls just fine with hearing on both ends, but just not making calls. Anyone else having this problem?:(

Re: HOWTO: Free Landline Calls - Beta
Install wget from here.
http://mg.pov.lt/770/reflash-n800.html Go to the site, then click on wget or download the file onto your device (or on your computer then move it to the device) then double click it. It should install it for you. |
Re: HOWTO: Free Landline Calls - Beta
ok, my app manager is messed up. I was just browsing through my extras and there it was! Grandcentral dialer. Even though in my app manager it says unable to install. It works perfectly fine and is a great tool. And about not the other person being able to hear me. It's miraculously fixed! I made a call using the dialer and now it works! I'm having a lucky night!
EDIT: Thx laughing man, I realized though that it was already installed. I was reading my command line log and it said wget already in the newest version so it seems that thats fixed. |
Re: HOWTO: Free Landline Calls - Beta
z2n Started a now thread on this app, you should continue talking about it there.
