Code:

/home/user # apt-get install screen
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree... Done
You might want to run `apt-get -f install' to correct these:
The following packages have unmet dependencies:
  osso-software-version: Depends: xserver-xomap (= 1:1.3.99.0~git20070321-0osso20074202) but 1:1.3.99.0~git20070321-0osso20074202-randr01 is to be installed
screen: Depends: libncursesw5 (>= 5.4-1) but it is not going to be installed
E: Unmet dependencies. Try 'apt-get -f install' with no packages (or specify a solution).

It is same problem like here http://www.internettablettalk.com/fo...ad.php?t=16244. Anyone can verify it is not just me?

Hacking /var/lib/dpkg/status by hand solves the problem for me but if someone verifies the problem too, it needs fixing and reinstallation of xserver package.

Now it showed up for me; I had updated some software that did not have the explicit dependency problem, but openssh and camera need it. Not just you :(, but I put lies in /var/lib/dpkg/status and it works.

Re: How to rotate screen on os2008

Can't you just edit control file of rotation xomap deb to original name and "update" on the device?

Or just unpack to root. I did that with Xournal without installing Ghostscript.

You can do the same directly in /var/lib/dpkg/status. Basically it is merge of all control files installed on the system so you are doing the same thing but no deb re-packing and reinstall is needed.

Ok thanks, I will edit /var/lib/dpkg/status and change it back to old name. But if an update to this xserver gets released, it's gonna be fun :(

When talking about it, maybe far easier for most people is to reinstall with fixed xserver package on jott's page http://sse2.net/rotate/

Re: How to rotate screen on os2008

Well, that's nice. Think this is about ready for wikification? I'm thinking to go start a wiki page on it now. The install is pretty straightforward now; but it looks like there are three (reasonably friendly) ways of controlling it: jott's applet; Faheem's enhanced version, and cli via powerlaunch.

Not using an applet, I don't know... Faheem, is there any advantage to using the original applet, or is yours completely a superset?

And my way (BTW, the script on my tablet now has a 180 option as well; turns out that (unless you force a "standard" rotation on entry to powerlaunch) you really want to use cw, ccw, and 180 commands from powerlaunch... Duh. Update coming in prior posts.) is somewhat complex and highly config dependent; you guys think it should just be left out, and the people advanced enough to be using powerlaunch will figure it out anyway?

With the code above in effect, resolution is changed to 800,120 which is not ideal :-)
fanoush, sorry, does this mean that the kernel that fixes the problem with media player/canola2/gtalk also reduces the resolution on all video to 800x120? If yes, and since mplayer is working fine, I might elect not to go with the new kernel.

Of course, I might have just misunderstood what you said the changes were..

My applet is jott's original but with the key rotation support (like your script) :). I actually used the xmodmap lines from your script :).

It has only one advantage:
- It will map the D-Pad keys the right way for all the rotations.

The disadvantage:
- Mentioned about you with your script, it will also rotate bluetooth keys too.

Rest of it is exactly the same as the original.

hey qwerty12, new user here, I had to pick and choose a little bit the infos here, but I got it going... thanks for the kernel and all the deb pkgs...

is there a way to make the fonts smaller so the top icons don't overlap ?

also is there a way to get ksh on n800 ?

Thanks much,

I'm not sure a smaller font will help you, but you can get 12pt and 14pt font versions of the built-in OS2008 themes from the maemo.lancode.de repository. I use the "themes-os08-14pt" package.

you know I'd use this mode (left rotation or right rotation all the time), the only trouble I have is the left screen bars and when I bring keyboard, the keys are into each other (like m & n ) :)

But I'll give those fonts a try. Thank you!

So for those who were experiencing the reboot issue that 51-3 fixed, using your kernel-2.2007.50-2-rotation.tar.gz would be a bad idea?

Benson 2008-03-20 12:39

Re: How to rotate screen on os2008

No. The kernel is the same, only the bootloader is different. So flashing a new kernel, as it leaves the bootloader alone, will not add or remove the fix.

If you have that trouble, you need to flash with 51-3 (or at least the bootloader of it), and then install any 50-2 or 51-3 compatible kernel that makes you happy.

Re: How to rotate screen on os2008

Oh! Right. Duh. That makes sense. I'm not used to thinking about things on the kernel/bootloader level.

@qwerty12: I want to change the dpad settings. I *thought* all it took was replacing the .so file with the one you provide here. But this didn't work. I'm assuming now that I need to install your modified plugin as well. Is this right? If yes, can you describe how to install this? When I installed the original applet, I simply clicked the auto-install link provided at http://sse2.net/rotate/ .

Thanks!

I don't really know what to say :o

You install the rotate-sb-plugin. The original one frrom the sse link.

Once you have the rotate applet installed, unzip the file and use mv to move it to /usr/lib/hildon-desktop/

So if I had the applet working fine before trying to replace the .so file, and then replaced the .so file with the .so file you attached here, that should work, right? I didn't need to do anything with the "rotate-sb-plugin (copy)" file you also attached?

Exactly :)

The ... (copy) is the modified source to satsify gnu licence. Only needed for developers.

Re: How to rotate screen on os2008

I see. Thanks. Well, I wonder why it didn't work then. :(

Oh well, I've gotten use to hitting the right side of the Dpad while in portrait mode to scroll down. In fact, now that I ponder it, I think this is more ergonomically pleasant than if I had to hit the (modified) down-button.

i had the same feelings until today! i decided to try dragging the sidebar panel from the left to the bottom and to my surprise it actually moved!

the windows have much more horizontal space now and the keys on the keyboard don't overlap. i think it might actually be faster for stylus typing because you don't have to move the stylus so far to reach different keys. the only problem is the tasklist in the panel is mucked up(still tries to display the running programs vertically).. i prefer using the home button anyway (even though in this orientation half of it is displayed offscreen).

i've attached a screenshot

do you have the xmodmap program installed? i believe his modified plugin calls that program to remap the keys. this would explain why it's not working for you.

I tried that and it works, even in normal mode the task bar remains in the lower section giving more space to the apps. The task bar can also be moved to the left side of the device, but it seems to be unstable, after trying a few apps it just stops, goes back to the original layout and closes all the extra apps.

How exactly did you do this? I did try to drag the sidebar to the bottom, but it doesn't move.

Which version of OS2008 are you using? 2007.50-2 or 2007.51-3?

I know that the position and size of the sidebar panel and the other hildon desktop elements can be changed via /etc/hildon-desktop/desktop.conf
But no drag&drop changes for me. :(

I send an patch for dpad rotation to the developer (jott, http://sse2.net/rotate/) and an own icon which fits very well into the other icons.

i hope he will include it in the next release. in the meantime you can request me via pm for my version of the rotate-plugin where the dpad gets rotated too.
i don't want to make it public because i want to avoid a fork of the plugin.

Wow, amazing! Moves on mine too... although there are a few graphical glitches and as usual a few on the menus cut off.

Still, a great find. Thanks! :)

Was there really any point to another one?

That said, the idea of the icon and the fact you have submitted sounds good :)

You first need to rotate the screen to the left or right. After that you should be able to click and drag it (you may need to click on the area below the home button). I'm running the latest OS2008 with the modified kernel.

It's hard to get hold of the task navigator panel when the screen is landscape, but you can find a few spots between applets and do it, once you know to try.

The key is to drag the panel itself, not an applet; much easier (as well as more useful) in portrait.

That sounds dire. Barring some sort of diagnostic mode that I am unaware of, I think you will have to re-flash the OS. You can download the OS images from maeomo.org and the flasher from the Nokia site.

If you have linux, just reflash original kernel.

Wow! tried 21 grabs. finally it moved.

How can icons be rearranged in there? I can'tt use program menu now, its off scrreen to right. If it could move left, and be smaller text, it mightt fit.

I triedd editing /etc/hildon-desktop and restarting. had no effect.
