Error 403--Forbidden

Coolty 2006-06-01 22:30

same error i got

mancy 2006-06-01 22:35

yes i know normal user will get Error 403--Forbidden

but Linux Xperianced User will not get this error :)
he can list files in directory and give us the new Bin link.
but where is this Linux genius

Coolty 2006-06-01 22:37

he must be a 1337 haxx0r, becuase you will need to get around a .htaccess file, good luck with that.

kutibah 2006-06-01 22:51

Actually, all you need to do is get a software program such as BlackWidow. Basically, you tell it to search www.nokia.com and it will list you all it's directories (Public or Private). Then if the software is hidden and uploaded somewhere on their server, you'll find the link ;)

I just bought one to be delivered tomorrow. I spent some time thinking about this--hope I didn't screw up.

No, there won't be any hardware changes. At least not for quite sometime. In my opinion, any hardware change would probably occur next Christmas.

Coolty 2006-06-01 23:19

back on the topic of the new update ---- where is it???

Headphone Jack--crash

On the Tungsten C, if the Voice Memo app is active the unit will energize if off when a headset is plugged in. Turns out the TC expects a Nokia headset (four conductor mini-plug). It would not surprise me if the 770 has an interrupt keyed to the jack--this would explain the crashes.

I wonder if you could hack that and use it for something useful. Some sort of switch or sensor hacked in through the audio port.

Yes, it is already used for something very useful, the speaker is turned off and the audio is redirected into headphones ;-)

Sorry for bad joke, but I suppose most people don't recognize this is done purely in software in most electronics nowadays.

insert headphones and run 'dmesg' command in xterm and you will see something like:
[95015.988861] headphone (GPIO 14) is now connected
[95015.991119] headphone (GPIO 14) is now disconnected

WAY off topic: Howabout a battery powered keyboard that would plug into the audio jack and output sound of differing Hz depending on which key is pressed? (Software as well to decipher the input obviously)

What are they serving down your local pub???!! Just kidding!

Nice idea but whats wrong with the BT keyboard?

Hedgecore 2006-06-02 19:06

I was thinking more of a thumb pad, if someone was great at fabrication, one that would 'dock' with the bottom of the 770. BT keyboards are way too big and the fact I visit the pub often makes me not want to figure out a FrogPad ;)

dattani98 2006-06-02 20:51

yeah....BT keyboards are a bit big and it would be nice if someone invented something smaller but pub resistant! (something thats small yet able to be used even when you've been hitting the strongbow super)

BTW - Where's that damned update?? :

cobalt 2006-06-02 21:20

I don't have one, but the Freedom Mini BT KB is small (about the size of a credit card but thicker of course). And they are apparently making a second version, which is also about the size of a credit card but folds out. There are a few reviews up for the released version.

Here's the product page link:
Freedom Mini KB

dattani98 2006-06-03 08:06

Nice!!

I didnt realise there were versions that were 'THAT' small!

Lance Fortune 2006-06-05 01:59

Any word if the bluetooth pairing problems have been fixed?

I would really like to use DUN with my ppc6700.

Coolty 2006-06-05 02:13

dont count on it

TiganSan 2006-06-05 12:18

Any news on the release date of 2006 OS!

We've got insider information that suggests there's an internal Nokia rumour floating around the blogosphere grapevine that it'll be in 2006.

Perhaps 2007.

Perhaps 2007.

the question was for OS2006 release for our 770s, not MS Vista release date :D :D

Haha that's funny. Let's hope Nokia's nothing like MS ;). Then again, I'd rather wait for a version that ain't buggy....

rottie 2006-06-06 21:22

*lol*

This is getting frustrating!
What are they waiting for? Riots?

NokNok770 2006-06-09 12:59

Well 2nd quarter of 06 ends this month so they better have it out before June.

Remote User 2006-06-09 23:47

I've been off doing other things lately but I've just upgraded to the 2006 OS beta and am having a problem that isn't related to the upgrade but is driving me crazy. I can connect to wireless access points all over the place but I can't get anything to come up in the browser. I only get a message that says network problem or something like that. Anyone?

aflegg 2006-06-10 07:49

Remote User: a proxy issue, perhaps?

Texrat 2006-06-12 20:35

Internet Tablet 2006 OS

I don't get it-- I've already got the latest update on my tablet (that I can find on Nokia's site), but it still reports the 2005 OS. So what am I missing? I can't find any download other than 5.2006.13-7, which doesn't *appear* to have anything to do with the OS update.

???

gnuite 2006-06-12 21:44

I've noticed a few bugs in the mistral beta - can anyone else confirm these before I report them ?

1. Notes crashes with "Notes closed due to an internal error" when I try to "Save As..." a plain-text note. I can save an HTML note, and I can even save as HTML, change the format to plain, and then do a regular Save (not "Save As...", although it does save with the non-html extension).

2. Notes crashes with "Notes closed due to an internal error" when I try to open an HTML file from the file manager (but opening a plain-text file works fine, and opening anything from the Notes application itself also works fine).

3. It is impossible to select text in a text field (at least multi-line, maybe single-line too, I forget) in the opera web browser and copy it for pasting elsewhere. Every time I try to select either the on-screen keyboard's or the menu's "Copy" menu items, the selection is cleared and nothing is copied. It's very frustrating! :)

Still, I love this update - there's no going back!

disq 2006-06-12 23:05

I also experienced some copy-not-copying behavior (especially on xterm) or maybe it's the xterm

Opera had this same behavior in the 2005 OS. While the copy function in the pop-up menu on the virtual keyboard doesn't work when dealing with text fields, the copy function in Opera's drop-down menu does work in that situation. Hooray for redundancy!

zetsurin 2006-06-13 11:03

You know as a software developer, the most annoying thing that can happen is when you release an early beta and people _complain_ that's it doesn't fully work:

http://blogbeebe.blogspot.com/2006/0...2006-beta.html

Very uninformed blog. eg: "And if this is what is being shipped on new 770's, then those new owners are not going to be happy campers.". WTF? What planet is this guyu from?

shoegoo 2006-06-13 17:12

I read that blog post when it was featured on OSNews yesterday. I expected it to generally echo the sentiments of the people here; that although its a beta release with the understandable problems, things are looking good. Boy was I wrong. Quotes like "once installed, you can't revert back to an earlier version of the software", "I don't know what's happening with the browser, but it's unstable", "The system is unstable", and finally "Since my accounts are AIM and Yahoo, there's no way for me to use either of those services. The VoIP requires me to purchase a Bluetooth capable headset" clearly show he doesn't really have too much of an idea whet he's talking about and he doesn't understand what beta means.

sonoronos 2006-06-13 18:11

zetsurin-

I can tell you exactly where that blogger is from. He's from planet Blog.
Here are some characteristics of people from planet Blog, aka Blogizens:

1) Unnecessarily aggressive. They will attack you for no apparent reason and will not stop their vitriolic rants until they perceive you have been shamed to death. If you turn around and insult them back, they will take it as encouragement because of #3 below. The best way to prevent this is to not read their blogs and reduce their hitcount. I hear this hurts them badly.

2) Uninformed. While they have an advanced civilization with computers, wireless internet access, and lots of electronic gadgetry, Blogizens have not yet learned to use their brains fully, leading to significant errors in judgement and reasoning.

3) Hungry for attention. Blogizen will say anything to be noticed, no opinion, no matter how ridiculous, is wrong as long as it scores a link from a blogsite. Other justifications for attention are, "e-props", "comment stars". They love feedback. The more feedback you leave on their page, the longer their comment page gets. Long comment pages on planet Blog are similar to the necks of women in the Karen-Padung tribe on Earth - the longer, the more beautiful.

4) Always negative. You can tell a Planet Blogger from an Earth person by looking at the tone of their comments. Citizens of planet Blog are always negative in their tone. Scientists say that this is because negative comments and insults are perceived as being "interesting" in underdeveloped Blogizen brains.

Nokia 870

I just bought the 770 last night, and got VNC to work with it thanks to these great forums! Yay! I love it!

However, I was looking around at stuff and noticed this, a Nokia 870 picture (prototype)?

When is this thing coming out?

I would have made a new thread, but since I'm new, I guess it won't let me on this forum.
