Whoops, just got bitten by a missing step in my post-SSU how-to!

Please add the following step (still as root):

7.
Code:

rm /boot/zImage-diablo-200828
If you don't delete it, your tablet may discover this file during another update and helpfully flash your kernel for you... back to the normal, non-high-speed, rotation-free Diablo stock kernel!

Well, nokia have finally gotten around to releasing the new kernel sources so I'll update the kernel to the post ssu version making all this trickery unnecessary ;)

And it looks like there is no change except added WiMAX driver source and some additional dvfs stuff which seems to be not used anywhere.

Yeah, I find it an annoyance but if I am going to put out a deb with the same version number as the one from nokia, I feel better when the kernel is actually the version number I make the deb say it is :)

Done, latest kernel with rotation and full speed mmc. For diablo updated with the ssu update.

Install, run flash-and-reboot afterwards:
http://qwerty12.maemobox.org/kernel-...maemo1_all.deb

I'm not going into much features in this, instead I'd rather save my work for the community kernels (atm, I'm running a pimped kernel with too much :P)

qwerty12, could you please also include the video I/O patch? Or is it included in the new kernel already?

Well, it's not included in the nokia standard kernel by default but does it have any side effects? If so, I'd rather not include it.

No side effects that I know of, can anyone else comment?

so stupid question time - for those of us who followed qole's 7 step process previously posted, we don't have to do anything, right? Just to be sure...

Okay, so... I try to run fiasco-flasher as root and it says that it isn't installed. I can't seem to find it in any repo anywhere. Where am I supposed to have gotten it from? I'm running Diablo.

Thanks.

Hi,

Thank you all for the increase mmc speed kernel.
I have one small question: since this kernel has the screen rotate feature, can anyone give me help/pointer to set up the software screen rotation?

Thank you

Install the Advanced Backlight Applet, it has rotation support in it.

I attempted to install this deb file on my N800 with latest Diablo update but I get an error "unable to install" what am I doing wrong?

Re: Why there is lack of interest "Highspeed enabled kernel for the Nokia n800 and n8

You should probably be using the instructions on the wiki page with the high-speed kernel ("with 48mHz patch") found under "For Advanced Users" on Jott's rotation page.

Re: Why there is lack of interest "Highspeed enabled kernel for the Nokia n800 and n8

Well, it must be my innner noob, because I have no success installing the high speed kernal. I just recently finish installing the "easy boot from SD deb" and I noticed a performance boost immediatlely, so I was hoping that this would also be a simpler "one click install" deb but after reading further it seems more for for advanced users

Re: Why there is lack of interest "Highspeed enabled kernel for the Nokia n800 and n8

I'm having terrible SD card corruption issues on my maemo ext2 partition on my (cheap) 16GB SD (class 6) card, with no clear reason why the partition would be corrupting. So I've moved back to a rotation-only kernel, and I'll see if that stops the problems...

I have similar 8GB adata and no problems at all with the high-speed kernel and ext3.

Re: Why there is lack of interest "Highspeed enabled kernel for the Nokia n800 and n8

What could cause the corruption on my partition, then? I have reformatted the partition twice, should I try deleting the partition and recreating it?

Bundyo 2008-11-14 05:37

Re: Why there is lack of interest "Highspeed enabled kernel for the Nokia n800 and n8

Ext2 is easier to break on sudden reboots, do you experience such reboots?

migs 2008-12-31 22:10

Re: Why there is lack of interest "Highspeed enabled kernel for the Nokia n800 and n8

Now that Penguinbait has install tools in action, I would assume that this high speed kernal would improve performance even further for those of us booting from SD cards.
It seems its a very complicated install though..

Can anyone comment?

Re: Why there is lack of interest "Highspeed enabled kernel for the Nokia n800 and n8

I see Jott has kept his rotation page up-to-date, so it shouldn't be too hard to install the HS / rotation kernel.
