Otherwise, if you can't find it, you might try and do the install without that package. But, I installed the packages just fine. So, check for misspellings.

oops, my bad. brb

Edit: ok, it install fine.

My flash boot is the back bone of my tablet. I wouldn't even think about it. That is why memory cards are for. Unless of courese when Mer completely replaces Maemo, than that's a go.

I would prefer Mer be on the internal Flash, if anyone has an easy install in the works please let us know!

With ease. Mer is portable to X86, ARM, etc - We have a VMDK for those who want to try it on VMware or VirtualBox (or Parrallels) (it's listed on the release pages). I even had Mer on my old old X86 laptop. (http://bsd.tspre.org/~stskeeps/mertop.jpg)

So what do we expect to see in the new version? That screenshot you posted, is that on your device or it running on another machine?

Re: Mer v0.9 released

Looks like VMWare on a desktop machine. So it isn't on a tablet. But that's one of the very cool things about Mer, it can run on things other than tablets.

I say, 10:1 Ubuntu Mobile ends up using Mer code to build their Arm Moblin since their stuff is such a train wreck at the moment and Mer is really coming along so well...

ok looking forward to test 0.11 :) have you had a chance to fix the FN not working in N810??

and another question... is mer likely to run on a nokia 5800 or a samsung omnia? thanks!

Can we have 0.11 images for testing?

All testers please come to #mer on FreeNode. :)

EDIT: Yes, Fn is working. Midori still crashes, but you can use Arora instead.

Has anyone tried Tear in Mer yet? It is really well designed for the tablet...

I don't think the current version works. I had install it from file but, it wouldn't start. It weird because the install went smoothly without a hitch.

I am logged on but, its so quiet in there. Are you guys busy or is that the way it is, no replies, no talk?

Try the version before libconic and dbus, it has more chances. I have Mer 0.9 on my 770, but it is one of the freezing on start experiences, so I can't test.

Speaking of Mer, why is it in the alternative section anyway? Isn't it going to be the upgrade to Maemo once it is finalized? Shouldn't it be in the OS like the previous Maemo releases?

Laughing Man 2009-03-31 03:18

Re: Mer v0.9 released

I think it's actually a hybrid. Freemantle is the next maemo OS. But Mer is for the nx00 tablets (since Freemantle is based off new hardware and backporting patches and what not for the older hardware is more difficult).

You need the VMDK image for virtualbox. http://stskeeps.subnetmask.net/mer/0...-v0.9.vmdk.zip
Download the file linked to above and then unzip it.

I am downloading the file but, isn't this the v0.9?

Edit: never mind, I got it.

Yeah, it's 0.9. I'd take a stroll over to the #maemo irc and see if they can help you get updated to 0.10. Sorry if you went there and didn't see a lot of activity. It tends to have some times of heavy activity and most of the rest of the time, it sits relatively idle. Just hang out there until you manage to catch it when there's more people there.

Here is Xcompmrg running on Mer 0.11 testing version. :)

First i put on only the basic fade-effect, then shadows and oter stuff.

With all the effects, it's laggy. That's because there's no Hardware Acceleration at all.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8UtcGhei3cA

At the same time, the video is also a good preview of the new User Interface of 0.11 and my theme :D

qole 2009-03-31 19:47

Re: Mer v0.9 released

Thanks, meizirkki. The effects are fun to look at, but you're right, pretty useless without any acceleration.

But the new UI is really exciting! I'm really getting eager to give it a spin!

Re: Mer v0.9 released

Mer0.11 is coming along nicely, much more responsive and a slightly new look. You guys are doing a great job, keep up the good work.

So far I've install Tiemu, hometools, leafpad that I know works. Other apps that I've installed I haven't run yet and can't comment on.

Re: Mer v0.9 released

A quick question. How can I clean my flash boot. I've noticed each time I run the mer installer, my flash storage get smaller and smaller. Why is that and can regain space?

Damn, 0.11 looks good! I can't wait to try that baby out! The 0.9 release actually kinda turned me off... but this looks better :D

Can't wait!

(And I really, really, can't freaking wait until my Fn keys work ;))

And this is what I get for taking time away from my IT some; I'm may be getting an N810 soon to compliment my use of my N800 and so when that happens I'll be contributing on the UI/UX side for this project.

Until then, I've got homework to do to catch up with the progress so far. Seems like a lot of great work.

Hmm I wanna try this myself (argh got to resist). How's the battery life on it?

I think you can uninstall bootmenu from the application manager under installed apps. Otherwise reflash.
