Is there a way to open a YouTube video on Digia@web by directly entering the web URL for that video?

Hi,

CSS works already. What was the problem with it?

YouTube does not work now, use @scene ;)

When we get new version of Qt libraries we will have another look into the YouTube possibility.

Re: Digia @web Browser

Hi all,

Really sorry, but we were a bit late with planned update and trial timer expired in the 2.0.3 version.

Digia @Web for Maemo version 2.0.4 is now available from Maemo's extras-devel repository.

All functionality is same as before, but we have extented the trial period until end of 2009.

There is a major update coming within the next couple of weeks. It will bring new DB structure after which subsequent versions will maintain all bookmars. We also hope that new Qt is available for our next release (it bring memory optimizations).

Re: Digia @web Browser

Hi All,

We have made new version 2.0.5 of Digia @Web for Maemo. It will be shortly available from extras-devel.

Here is the list of changes since the previous release:

1. Saving bookmarks in SQLite database. Bookmarks from previous release are lost but they will be kept in upgrades.

2. Saving usernames and passwords that are used to access sites on the Web. Passwords can be managed using Security tab of Settings dialog. User can enable/disable passwords saving and view the actual usernames and passwords that are stored. The data is stored in encrypted format. Username and password fields are automatically filled for sites that have stored credentials.

3. One bug fixed: the tooltip text from any of main buttons doesn't go away if the button has been pressed when buttons are animating down.

We know that the Qt libraries for Maemo Diablo are not yet perfect, but they are almost fast enough for decent browsing.

If you find some problems, let us know via e-mail to support.product@digia.com.

We are planning to make @Web available also via extras and catalog in the near future.

Proble is most likely that you do not have sql library. We missed it in the dependencies and will fix in next version. If you install Digia @scene you should have the sql in place. Tell us if that helped.

Re: Digia @web Browser

Problem with the install - it complained about sqlite even though I already have digia@scene installed. When I uninstalled @scene, @web installed OK. I have not yet tried to reinstall @scene.

A bit slow in loading, but once loaded pages seem to load fairly quickly.

Two issues in operation:
1. Trying to finger scroll or tapping on the screen to launch a link (with finger or stylus) brings up the keyboard.
2. If zoomed in and the page is larger than the screen, there does not seem to be a visual cue that vertical or horizontal scrolling is needed.
3. Any way to password protect passwords like in Firefox?

Overall, seems to be looking good!

Re: Digia @web Browser

Hi All,

We now made 2.0.7 available in App Catalog and Extras. It seems to be stabile :)

There were some problems in 2.0.6 caused by incorrectly behaving Qt 4.5.2 libraries (vkb appearing and visual cue of lacation in page missing). These still exist if you use the current version of Qt 4.5.2, but with the 4.5.0 found in Extras these work.

Re: Digia @web Browser

Installed 2.07. With QT 4.5.0 and with 4.5.2, I still get the problem with the vkb popping up with screen taps or touchscreen scrolling. The problem is intermittent but happening with both of the QT library versions.

Another keyboard related intermittent problem has to do with the fullscreen keyboard. When returning to the browser screen from the fullscreen keyboard, sometimes the screen will "white out". When the screen is whited out, I can get the bottom digia navigation icons to appear, but they are distorted in size (too big) and partially off screen.

The good - web pages load up very fast. This browser will be a pleasure to use once the bugs are worked out. Page rendering is also very nice. Are there plans for tabbed browsing or option to open up a link in a new window?

Can anyone confirm an error for me, when I try to go to usatoday.com...the page loads most of the way the it seems like a popup comes up and it then goes to a page that says connection refused. I am using a hosts file, as well as privoxy...this error doesnt happen on tear, which also uses the webkit engine. If someone can confirm, what can be done to fix this?

Sorry all, we failed to release update in time.

Good news is that we have made good development mainly in:

1. Performance optimization (multi-window add speed, scrolling, use of memory)

2. New functionality (better pwd manager, RSS feeds)

Now we are trying to put those features that are ready into release packgage during this week.

Later we hope to put more focus also to Fremantle / N900 - we want to have @Web running smoothly in it when the device is available.

Hi All,

We have made a new 2.0.8 version and it is now stabili with latest Qt 4.5.2 libraries.

New functionality in this release is:

* Fixed scrollbar visibility, somethis it did not show in screen
* Web page favicon now show on bookmarks
* Improved multi window performance
* Runs until 31.12.2009

As soon as the connection problem goes away I am able to upload this to extras.

We are working with updates to password manager and RSS feeds, hopefully these can be released within next weeks.

from xterm, using root, try 'apt-get autoremove'

Does anybody else have the same issue with the keyboard popping up when the screen is touched?

It may only happen if the page has a text input box but I'm not very sure. This behavior is so bad I stop using the app out of frustration before I can hunt down specifics.

@Web is uninstalled by using application mangers, but @Web is built on Qt libraries which are not removed when uninstalling @Web. Use following steps to uninstall Qt libs.

1. Gain root http://wiki.maemo.org/Root_access
2. Open xterm
3. Change to root account
4. Type following 'apt-get remove libqtcore4'

Re: Digia @web Browser

Quick first feelings about @Web, on N810 running Diablo:
- Address bar position is annoying. It is covering the top part of the pages, and on the first load, one has to wait until it disappears. Perhaps there is some setting that controls the time that the address bar is visible. This is bad behaviour, especially because the browser is not quick. Pages do load slowly even with fast WiFi connections, and all the time that address bar is visible.
--> Bottom of the page would be much more better place for the Address bar, because pages' main links are rarely located there
- Selecting web addresses from drop-down menu, with touch-screen qwerty, does not work.
- Some pages just do not work. For example Facebook, it loads the main page, but clicking links to Profile or Friends - they do not work! I have experiences some trouble with the N810 std browser as well, but not this bad.
- Another Facebook-related problem: if the browser is not zoomed into full screen (from N810), the Login-button can not be scrolled into view
- I understand that these problems may be partly claimed as service provider (facebook corp) problems, but SOME iop testing should be carried out with major web services, before launcing even betas.

Support.digia.com says on 2.7.2009 (https://support.digia.com/kb/article/show/?id=123&) that "There is a major update coming within the next couple of weeks.". Well, there surely would be a need for that major update, especially if someone would like to have it running on N900...

Re: Digia @web Browser

Hi All,

Regarding N900 we have not so good and possible good news.

We have ported @Web (well there was very little to port since the Qt version stayed the same) to N900 using Qt 4.5 Community port.

But unfortunately the performance is not much better and in some places worse than N810.

So we have not made a release yet because we want to make a good browser for N900.

Now there is coming Qt 4.6 for Maemo/N900 and it (fingers crossed) should be faster - What we aim to do is to bring @Web to Qt 4.6 for N900. Hopefully Qt WebKit runs better in that one so that the power of the HW can be enjoyed.

Hi all,

For some reason the latest version I have sent does not go through to extras. It seems to be there in the system as I can not upload another version. Maybe file permissions are wrong or something?

If someone who has access to the system is reading this, please fix. I have e-mailed maemo webmaster, but he seems to be out somewhere and has not replied.

Hi there, I've been following this thread, and I was wondering if there was any chance of you (Digia) posting the .deb package file directly on your website, since it appears that you are having difficulty posting it to extras. Of course, it would be much better if you could post it to extras, but perhaps some of us would enjoy testing out the new version in the meantime.

Thanks!

It is very odd that I do not seem to get the latest @Web for Diablo version into the repository.

I have uploaded it but it just did not appear in the repository.

Maybe I just have to increase the version number by one ant try again.

PS. We are working with @Web also for Fremantle. The port we initially did was not better than the platform browser so we did not release it at all. But we have a plan to use Qt Graphics view based approach and also switch to new Qt Webkit 2.0 that should be a good engine. Timing remains to be seen but as soon as we have something relevant I will put it to maemo.org.

There might be a problem with the builder, my package built fine but never made it to the repository. I had to ask for little push.

Re: Digia @web Browser

Hi All,

There are now brand new Digia @Web 3.0.0 and 3.0.1 versions in the extras devel repository. They both perform much faster than the N900 platform browser - and of course provide the great @Web UI.

As mentioned earlier we did not initially release @Web for N900 / Fremantle due to performance issues. Now we have re-worked the whole architecture and integrated new webkit engines. UI looks the same still, but underneath there has been several improvements.

We have also been testing the brand new Qt WebKit 2.0, which look very promising but seems to provide the best only with Qt 4.7 (which is still under development, and not stabile enough to release with). For this reason we have release two version @Web 3.0.0 that has the old and stabile Qt WebKit and 3.0.1 with new Qt WebKit 2.0.

On JavaScript performance we are 65% faster that platform browser (SunSprider bechmark). Basic rendering performance is 64% faster (Raytracer benchmark). And we get almost double the score in Peacekeeper benchmark (88% better that platform browser). When compared to Mozilla Fennec 1.0 @Web clearly beats it as well in all areas (Fennec is only slight faster than the platform browser).

Looking forward in your feedback.

Nice work! It does seem faster in some cases. One thing is there is no progress indicator when the menu bar is hidden so it can be hard to tell if you really clicked that link. Also zoom + scrolling + impatience = out of control laggy flying around the place.

Perhaps you should start a new thread for version 3 so it doesn't get lost at the end of this?
