The current workflow is based on category moderators that are supposed to move proposal from Sandbox to Under Consideration and etc. In practice at least until now this is not working. I personally believe we need to move away to a more decentralized system not relying on any little list of people.

Just a heads up: the bug preventing you from editing your own proposals and ideas has been fixed. Please verify.

Theoretically we could use a scoring system just like with Extras. But without the Nokia authority in moderation how would people know if something is actually being implemented?

It doesn't. ;)

I may be mistaken, but didn't our current Bugzilla have a "MOVED" resolution not so long ago? I think it was eliminated on grounds of being generally useless. However, if it's easier to re-activate "MOVED" than create a new resolution, then might it work for Brainstorm?

The scoring system is being proposed only to move ideas from Sandbox to Under Consideration. See the workflow proposal at http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?t=32316

What is the best way to publicise an idea in Brainstorm? DOes one post a new thread in talk pointing to it or (like I've just done) stick a link in one's sig?

Yes, this is a good question. It seems that it's rather hard to land into Brainstorm. I myself only heard of it when someone pointed to it in the forum (Talk). Even then it took me sometimes to figure out how it worked and that I needed a separate registration for it. Then again, I might be a bit stupid... :D

Yes, personally (as someone who reads most new posts on talk.maemo.org several times a day), Brainstorm is kind of invisible to me. I believe there was a proposal to link Brainstorm and Talk, so that each Brainstorm automatically as a corresponding Talk thread, which sounds like a good idea to me.

Would the talk thread replicate the comments thread in Brainstorm? Actually, why don't I wander over there and find out what's proposed...

Is there any way of merging Brainstorm ideas? When I posted my idea (see sig) I hadn't realised the Sandbox existed, and that there was an existing idea that mine was a logical extension of.

Site search is missing a filter for the Brainstorm page... I think I should submit that as a site bug.

IMO this isn't a bug, but a misfeature, of course you should fill a enhancement ticket at bugs.maemo.

Re: Contribute your Maemo ideas via Brainstorm

I'm coming to this debate rather late, but it seems kind of clear to me:

- Brainstorm is for ideas and enhancements
- Bugzilla for bugs

As it is anticipated that there will be a flood of new users, you want something that is "as simple as possible but not simpler".

There is nothing stopping experienced users from entering those super-specific enhancement requests direct into Bugzilla.
For things that are incorrectly placed in Brainstorm, the moderators could open the bug and add the appropriate user-details.
Over time, the new people get used to Bugzilla and the difference between the two, *without* overloading Developers.
Yes, this puts extra work on people to move those ultra specific enhancement requests from Brainstorm to Bugzilla (or to the appropriate upstream project), but I see this as a better method because the user education happens only "as needed", rather than attempting to boil the ocean and educate people about subtle differences and getting more mainstream humans to fill in bugzilla.

What we really need at this point is to implement the basic bugfixes and enhancements to make the Brainstorm usable. There are 3 tasks committed by Netblade in this October sprint. Looking forward to the improvements!

On top of those we had some chat with Reggie in the Summit about connecting Talk and Brainstorm more tightly. We should try to publish a plan soon...

Looking forward for your plan. IMO a good Brainstorm integration inside talk, can be a big advantage for the discussion around the ideas proposed, this can fix my major complain about the Brainstorm platform :).

Brainstorm is very slow for me, compared to (for example) posting on talk.m.o or editing wiki.m.o. In fact it's so slow as to put me off from using it.
