I don't so much mind the delay until Mud Nov, but what really pisses me off is the complete lack of communication and updates to the Nokia site. For farks sake how hard is it to update a webpage.

:D

True. We all seem to be able to bend logic to suit the point we are trying to make...

I never was to impressed with how quickly Nokia responds with its Web pages. :cough: Tableteer :cough:

This Forum however, and maemo.org by extension has always been an exceptional source of timely and accurate information.

It wouldn't surprise me if Vlad at endgadget got his pointers to this on the Chronicles of n900

In reference to your questions on the expected shipment date of the Nokia N900, let me tell you the latest information from Nokia:

The Nokia N900 is a great example of what we and the open source community have been able to achieve with Maemo software. We are working closely with open source developers and for example, at the Maemo Summit in October, we loaned 300 pre-production units to get more feedback from the community. This feedback is extremely important to us and as such we also want to provide the best user experience with the Nokia N900.

We expect it to start shipping during November 2009.

and that habeeb and evilm0nkey were also members of this forum or organization.

So the the lack of communication and updates to the Nokia site don't bother at all.

...and as long as we are speculating as to the cause... I reckon it was prompted by the feedback received by the users of the Maemo summit devices and it may have more to do with GSM then anything OS or UI related.

(:cough: network codes :cough:)

Dont take my word for it, read the article below

http://www.guardian.co.uk/technology...ia-n97-updates

Launch party is Oct 28th and preorders are in high gear in November. Either they will release about the same time or the N900 (unless another delay) will beat it.

Side note:

Tmo should be a little worried now. Sholes is being pushed by Verizon and Google and Tmo offerings are second tier, older chipset devices. If Verizon were to drop their rates a little, Tmo could be hurt. Even without a drop Sholes should be huge and have Tmo pointing middle fingers at their marketing.

Re: N900 shipping delayed

Maybe they just have too many websites to update :)

Current displayed shipping dates on the various store sites are as follows:
- Nokia USA "Availability: END OF OCTOBER 2009"
- Noka UK : "Tentative delivery date: November 2009."
- Nokia Finland: "3.9.2009 eteenpäin sinulla on mahdollisuus kokeilla"
- Nokia Germany : "ab dem 30. Oktober 2009"

(Seems the Finns have had the N900 for over a month!)

Nokia in France, Italy, Netherlands, Poland, Spain and Sweden appear to promise no particular delivery date, although all allow pre-ordering.

For those who care the goddamn Nokia USA page is STILL showing End of October.

I'm not saying "keep delaying it" or anything like that. I'm just trying to show you guys the bright side of a crappy development, that's all.

As a long time Symbian user, I feel that both portrait and landscape mode is important to *some* tasks, specially the tasks that involve basic phone functionality ie. SMS, Voice (already available), Contacts. The rest can be managed since music playback, browsing, games, calendar are mostly used when not in a hurry and two hands are usually free ;)

Fair enough. Google suggested "try out" or somesuch, and I figured that's what I plan to do when I get mine. :-)

So, it's really in-store demo they're talking about here. Ah well.

Nobody is certain why Nokia keeps on delaying the product. The problem is they are not saying shyt about it, which is fvcking annoying.

Ok, but that really doesn't TELL us anything. Feedback is important - great. Is this delay as a result of that feedback? If so what was/is the issue? If not - same damn question.

I really don't consider it too much to ask for some basic information for the investment of 500+ dollars. I am willing to put up with a lot if only they tell me WHY I am putting up with it.

On a side note the "expect it to start shipping during November" is yet another hedge bet. The keyword there is EXPECT. It gives them another out if it doesn't. While I am quite happy to keep my preorder at this stage, a further delay past the new "expected" date would definitely give me pause and perhaps make me go with something else while they fully bake the OS/hardware/whatever the hell it is causing the delay.

Ok guys,

I just called Nokia to confirm my pre-order details.

I asked the rep if they got any news lately about the dates.

They told me November end !

I asked them if it was just another speculation or is there going to be some official confirmation of the dates.

They said its more than speculation but they havent got a specific date yet.

Infer what you can from it, or just ignore it like the millions of other posts regarding the dates :p

Seriously I couldnt care less now, tired of these speculations and Nokia's silence on it !

I can't find the reply now, but he did indicate that it was delayed as a result of that feedback, IIRC, yes.

I'm really not that bothered. No actual date was ever given, so they haven't really broken it. Am I annoyed that I don't have my N900 right now? Sure. Is it inconveniencing me? Yes, I don't have a phone working at the moment.

But really, I think all that can be done here is to take a step back from things, take a deep breath, and realise that the delay hopefully means that ultimately the N900 will be more polished than if it had shipped earlier.

Could things have been done better in this case? Possibly. I don't think Nokia are communicating exceptionally well - both internally and externally - but a lot of the blame I see getting shoved around (at least for UK based people) has been the fault of external companies *anyway*.

Nokia UK's position has always been (both on the website, and the times I've rung them): "Tentative delivery date: November". *Tentative*. It's not even sure of the month there.

I would assume the issues are all software, as the loaner units in the field seem to be working fine (or I am sure we would hear about it, even from proponents of the product -- sometimes the harshest critics), they will get the software update on their units as the final product it rolled out.

Enjoy the wait. Makes for a better story when you get the device. Embrace the notion that Nokia cares enough to hold back the N900 until they make it as robust as they can at release time.

Personally I'm quite happy to see people cancel their orders for exactly the reason stated above - maybe mine will arrive a tad quicker then - assuming that they aren't using Royal Mail for delivery in which case 2010 seems an early expectation for delivery!

NokiaUSA is still saying end of october...

They probably haven't updated it because they want to keep the preorders rolling in. I'm cancelling my pre-order with NokiaUSA today. Already ordered it from Newegg (much cheaper) and at least newegg is saying 11/15

Yes, you are correct. JUST got off the phone with the German Nokia shop. Was told at least 3 weeks before the N900 ships. Asked if that was a set date and was told, "maybe" 3 weeks if I am lucky.

November !?

Seriously, if the issues left right now are software issues (not hardware), I'd rather get N900 with pre-release software because my old phone is failing now (battery is almoast dead, keys get stuck... an SE K800i after 3 years of not-so-light use).
And pushing back the release date just because there are many preorders? They could release early to those who preordered early...

Re: N900 shipping delayed

I think that the Nokia n900, it’s more then one month late, to me it’s more then a year late.
I don’t understand why nokia didn’t react faster to the trend of the touch devices. It started in 2007.
Maemo was an obvious solution. They should react faster.
But they prefer to stay with symbian on models like the n95 then the n96.
I guess that now they face a much more critical problem. For the first time they are not the greater buyer of touch technology, and Samsung and LG are the ones that makes the screens. Nokia already admitted that can’t buy the components, and for sure not at the price they want.
Also this politic of announcing something (like they did with n97) with one year of advance it’s really all wrong.
I really love nokia and to me this is very sad.
This latest news about the N900 delay it’s just one more to add to this colossal mess.
Here in Portugal they make a huge campaign with advertisements of N900 in every street. The campaign finished and we need to wait one more month to get the phone in the shops. What a waste of money.

I think a lot of ppl are just mad and need to vent, which is ur god given right to complain. Yet there will be quite a few new comers and some that are early consumers to just get something else "for the time being". It gives me time to keep saving for it instead of blowing a whole check on it:rolleyes: I'm not as mad as I'm board while I wait for it ( I'm tired of watching videos on it:confused: ) well to each there own i guess but dnt bash peter about stuff though ( I gotta a crush on him ) but besides that he has a valid point in what he said... wait... we're working on stuff...
