I'm not surprised in the slightest that the call center people you speak with on 0800 331 6021 don't know that there is such a thing as Nokia retail.

Look here http://www.nokiaretail.co.uk/stores/index.htm, as someone already suggested.

If you get the phone before the people who ordered via MPD... good for you. There is no reason to throw it in peoples faces though. That just makes you look childish - which is probably the case.

Have to admit - did a hunt to see what else is out.... and there is no HD2, Droid, or anything else even slightly on a par with the N900.... so still not hugely bothered about waiting :) - just wish the next two weeks would go quickly :)

Ok, so by your reasoning I could create a company called "Apple Retail".

I will then claim I am an affliate with Apple. Set up my own site selling iPhones and get contract deals with carriers. Then set up a bunch of stores in malls/town centres across the south of the UK. Then claim exclusivity on pre-orders of the next Apple brainwashing devices.

Then I will find my stores mentioned across Apple's own discussion forums and the separate forums regarding my next flagship OS. Plenty of technology websites will cover news regarding the shipping dates that I proceed to make up, just to keep my customers happy.

Now, throughout all of this Apple would happy let me illegally use their good name and run my stores for many months/years. Sounds like a great plan, any investors?

The online shop at nokiaretail.co.uk is run by MPD.
The bricks & mortar stores at some locations are run by MPD.

The online shop at nokia.co.uk is run by Nokia UK.
The bricks & mortar stores at some locations are run by Nokia UK.

They clearly have a branding agreement as the graphics as virtually identical, and Nokia Retail stores look... well, a lot like Nokia UK stores :-)

But they aren't the same company, and don't have the same shipping arrangement.

Everything else you said about what would happen is exactly right, except for that part: If you negotiated permission from Apple, to be another sales channel for them, then yes you could do it like you said.

That's perfectly normal franchising business.

A lot of businesses work like that. Franchises are when one company operates a business using the branding of a different one, under an agreement.

Just trying to clear up the rubbish spread by maemojedi: Nokia have never hearing of Nokia Retail (because one uninformed telesales rep had no,) they have no affiliation, and that anyone could have made the site.

Most likely will be Nokia.co.uk/Flagship next week, MPD the week after, and everyone else after that. As a franchise MPD should be in a position to get it before CPW, Amazon, et al.

When is this statement not true? You're the only one's believing in things that you don't know 100% to be true - yet you state them as fact. Why is that? Are you guys trying to make yourselves feel superior by making others feel inferior? Because they made a different choice than you when buying a stupid phone?

Also, just to clarify. I for one have never said that the people who ordered through MPD / Nokia retail will get the phone the same time as the ones who ordered through the Nokia shop. In fact I've always suspected we would receive around a week later. Nothing's changed in my expectations :confused:

true - MPD class themselves as a partnership, different in law - but to be honest i can't see any thing relating to those too in any old news reports..... so franchise/partnership/ex-lovers, all the same to me :)

Looked around at all the big brick and mortar stores. Can anyone find a pre-order or coming soon page for someone like the Carphone Warehouse or Phones4U? Yet they do have them for the HD2, the X10, and the Aino. Would look likely that none of these stores will have N900s on the 3rd.

Aino is a Sony Ericsson 'hybrid' touch phone... quite nice for a standard dumb phone.

Clove.co.uk a very well known shop have listed the n900 for months (since it was announced) they changed the date once about a month and a half ago to mid/late December. They knew then what we all know now... ;)

Oh and the Droid will be named Milestone in the UK - like Germany... I'm actually quite surprised its not out yet.

listen mate, i am not trying to argue with you.. all i am doing is to share with everyone what i found out from the actual shop in Salisbury.
Let me ask you one question... can anyone by law open up a shop and name it NOKIA anywhere around the world and get away with it?... i really doubt it! all i am saying is, if these are the licensed people that has the sign saying NOKIA on their store then you believe it.
I aint saying that people ordered from nokiaretail will get it sooner or whatever, all i am saying is, if Flagship Store in Regent Street (which is the one of the two stores in UK (other is Heathrow) stocks up the N900's, its only matter of time until the other "shops with NOKIA written on them" (NOKIA RETAILERS) has them in stock.

Just informing people man, dont need to..........

I placed my order on the 21st Oct so wouldn't expect to get it after the guys pre-ordered since Sept.

Nada. Nothing today. NOS status still saying "This order has not shipped."

Doubt anything will happen over the weekend. Guess I'll be waiting for it to ship out on Monday. And seeing how I went with standard delivery, I'm expecting it around Thursday/Friday. Assuming, of course, that it does get dispatched on Monday.:rolleyes:

I tried calling the London flagship store. 20 rings and no answer. This was around 8.30pm. I tried again a few minutes later with the same result. Hopefully they were packing...

the flagship stores are all run directly by Nokia themselves all other stores in UK are run by affiliates who have franchise contracts.

I ordered on the 19th October, and haven't received "the email" yet.

But the order was changed on 3rd November (Nokia phoned me, insisted I had to have the order recreated and lose my cashback, but changed the double-discount calculation in my favour). I was told I'd keep my place in the queue, but you never know...

Btw, the bloke from Nokia who phoned me to change my order had a suspiciously Finnish sounding accent. Perhaps their shop is not local to each country, but centralised for the whole EU?
