Re: US Tmobile APN
I am chatting with TMO right now and they are as perplexed as me.
|
Re: US Tmobile APN
i would call them and ask them to reset your internet connection on your account
|
Re: US Tmobile APN
I did that. At first, they tried to push me into the smartphone plan, but after I explained everything was working fine with the 5800 before today they tried to work through it. They have absolutely no idea why it isn't working. I'm about to pull my hair out. Using internet data OTA 3g is one of the main reasons I got this phone.

Re: US Tmobile APN
i guess the only other thing you can do is reset the phone to factory state

Re: US Tmobile APN
Ok this is my first post and I see tons of ppl getting flamed for being dumb on here. Got my N900 yesterday. I have the Even more Plus plan (with 1000 minutes as if that mattered) for 69.99. I hook the phone up, voice and texts works fine but for data... I get the Tmobile symbol with a little 3G next to it but when I go to click on it, it says "internet connection failed" almost immediately. I came on here and saw the other APNs people are using. (the phone was preset to internet2)
I inputted epc.tmobile.com and connect and it SAYS I'm connected at 3G and 3.5 and does NOT tell me the connection failed (I even get the proper connection icon next to the Tmobile service symbol, but no pages are loading. So I tried the wap.voicestream.com, connect the phone (everything appears to be good) and then open a webpage and I get this message on a web2go webpage "Subscription Upgrade Required.. Your current plan is not compatible with this device. Please click here to view your plan options." Do I need to call these peckerheads or am I doing something wrong? Because as far as I understand I believe my Even More Plus plan should work... grrrr Oh and it may be of value to note that yesterday before I fired up the N900 my SIM was in a tmobile/htc shadow and the internets worked just fine on that. |
Re: US Tmobile APN
did you get the error for internet2?
which internet plan you have? epc works for tzones , internet2 (at least for me) only works for unlimited web for dumbphones |
Re: US Tmobile APN
Yes I got the error "internet connection failed" on internet 2. epc appears by all measures to connect but then won't actually take me to a web page, and wap tells me I need an upgraded plan. My internet plan, for now, is bundled with the Even More Plus 1000 minutes unlimited text unlimited web plan. As I edited my note a minute ago, the internet worked on the Tmo Shadow I was using yesterday. Maybe I should ditch the Even More Plus and sign up for the regular Even More plan with dumbphone?

Re: US Tmobile APN
i heard some ppl have problem when they switched from shadow
my suggestion go to your account change a phone to like a samsung 879 i think the brown one and choose unlimited web for dumbphones for 10$ and use settings for internet2.voicestream.com and make sure u change settings in a browser for cache size from 5mb to 40mb |
Re: US Tmobile APN
My problem was finally resolved when I left my house. When I got outside of my wireless home network it was fixed. Which tells me it was one of two things:
1) My phone literally had to get away from my home network to work 2) Sometimes it takes several hours for TMO SIM to recognize and calibrate with the new phone. I am using internet2.voicestream.com for what it is worth. Also, I am able to connect to TMO internet without a problem from my house now. |
Re: US Tmobile APN
I have the old T-Zones $5.99 plan. I can't remember what the plan provided.
I don't want to get a big bill by downloading too much. I think it was unlimited web and email through a proxy. Does anyone remember? I couldn't find it on the T-Mobile web site any more. Thanks |

TMO uses different APN settings for different phones. The epc.tmobile.com is used for 3G phones like the Android phones and smartphones. It is also the most reliable of all APN settings. wap.voicetream.com will work also if you had the right data provisioning feature on your plan. Basically continue using epc.tmobile.com cuz it works. |
Re: US Tmobile APN
yeah im on internet2.voicesteam.com and i tried to switch to epc.tmobile.com it says its connected, but when i browse the web it says my data plan is not compatible with this phone or something. I changed it back to internet2 and works.

Re: US Tmobile APN
When i first received my phone it was set to internet2, I noticed browsing even youtube the videos would stutter and were not very impressive, I was bummed to say the least. The other day I switched it to epc.tmobile and youtube works, the vids stream smoothly and not much stuttering. So far as I can tell epc seems to be working better in my area.

Re: US Tmobile APN
So what I wound up having to do was call Tmo support, talked with someone at Tier1 who obviously thought I was smarter than they were, then talked to someone at Tier2 who wasn't much better who immediately sent me to Tier3 where some helpful guy got me hooked up right. He said the epc.tmobile.com was the one I wanted and he took the imie number (whether he needed it or not), said it would be working within 48 hours and within 2 minutes life was good. Gotta say I love this phone...

Re: US Tmobile APN
I have the $9.99 unlimited plan. Initially, I thought I was on 3G since I was getting 1/.8Mbps whereas I was getting 1.25/.26 on AT&T 3G. However, when I go to Settings -> Internet Connections -> Connections -> T-Mobile Internet, the connection type indicates GPRS (pre-configured settings, and the access point name is: internet2.voicestream.com). How do I connect via 3G speed connection instead? T-Mobile's coverage map shows that 3G is available in my area.
Edit: The signal indicator next to the battery life indicator switches back and forth between 3G and 3.5. Does that mean I'm connected via 3G and not GPRS (2G)? Or is the signal indicator supposed to constantly remain at 3.5? Also, does the circled double arrow simply mean I'm connected via mobile internet and not wifi? Or does it mean I'm connected via GPRS? |
Re: US Tmobile APN
you are on 3g what makes you think you are not?

Under Internet Connections in settings. You'll have to edit the TMobile Internet one.

Re: US Tmobile APN
So is there a concensus here on whether or not TMO total internet plans should stick with the internet2 APN or go with the epc APN? Or does it not matter at all?
|
Re: US Tmobile APN
i got the 9.99 data plan from t-mobile and it worked fine. i even get 3.5 g's most places i go. all i had to do was throw in my sim card and i was online with impressive speeds..

Re: US Tmobile APN
People with GPS problems: I accidentally discovered that GPS worked perfectly for me when I took the SIM out of the N900. Later I discovered the same was true when I had "Always Ask" as the setting under Internet Connection and was NOT connected to the Tmobile service at all. (Usually I'm connected to wireless at my house and GPS works fine there.)
Something to consider... |
Re: US Tmobile APN
I used to have the grandfathered $5.99 data plan using epc.tmobile.com APN.
I recently changed my plan to the Even More Plus and had to sign up for the $10 data plan. Initially, I couldn't access the web or receive emails. Every time I tried to open a website, I was redirected to a t-mobile website saying I have to upgrade. I popped my SIM card in a regular phone and web pages were loading with no problem. Then I put the SIM card back into my N900 and changed the APN settings to internet2.voicestream.com and everything was working again. I ran a speed test on speedtest.net and got the same down/up and latency as before (0.95Mbps/0.2Mbps and 100ms). My conclusion is that with the $10 data plan, the APN has to be set to internet2.voicestream.com to be usable. |

On a related matter, with accounts set with the $10 Web Unlimited plan when going into "account management" it wants to convert that data plan option to a $10 250MB option... apparently, good for any smartphone as they advertise access to 4G. Has anyone done the conversion, any pros / cons...? Did anyone do tethering with the $10 Web Unlimited plan? |
Re: US Tmobile APN
Does the $10 Unlimited Web plan still exist? I asked every T-Mobile representative that I've spoken with and they only know of the $39.99 (so-called) "Unlimited" Data plan (w/ a 5GB cap).
The method I'm using now is the WebDay Pass/Pay-As-You-Go/web2go plan on t-zones. It's just $1.49 for 24 hours of web access. Though I'm kind of tired of having to purchasing $10 Refills every now and then. This WebDay Pass method has worked fine since I started using it at the beginning of the year, but lately, I've been having problems connecting. Well it connects to T-Mobile Internet, and I'm able to make outgoing call and receiving incoming calls as well as SMS but the web has stopped working the past few days. I've tried all the usual APNs (epc, wap, internet2, internet3). I've contacted T-Mobile on Twitter and also talked with a customer service representative on the phone which cost me some extra money. He asked for my IMEI but I didn't give it to him. He said he'll "push" my number to see if it helps with connecting. I waited a couple of minutes and rebooted my device and the problem still remained. I wasted $1.49+$2 for customer service that day. The next day I was traveling so I bought another WebDay Pass and it worked as perfect as before! So now another day after, I'm back at home and I just bought a WebDay Pass, and the problem came back. As someone mentioned earlier in this thread, maybe it works when I step out of range of my home network or something? I think they [T-Mobile computers] know the location where I've connected to, and they've cut it off because I've used so much of their bandwidth one time. I'm trying to pin point how this problem keeps happening so I can confront T-Mobile about it. My assumption is that a certain APN or signal that I connect to at home is blocking my number right now. Tomorrow, I will step out away from my home and reconnect to see if it works. Hopefully, I'll get to the bottom of this. // Roth |
