Re: SeriesFinale - TV episode guide browser by jrocha

When viewing a season, the menu has two items A-Z or Z-A which sort the episode list as either latest at bottom or latest at top. Given that episodes have numbers rather than letters, I was going to file a bug suggesting that "A-Z" and "Z-A" aren't very good labels.

But then I wondered - does anyone actually even use Z-A sorting, i.e. latest episodes at the top? If no-one uses that option, then maybe the two sorting methods could just be removed.

It would be nice if some date related issues would be solved in this app.
Like when you add a show it show how many episodes you haven't watched, this would be great if these episodes had already been aired, but even if a episode isn't aired yet it still show up as not watched.

Also it would be nice if the app showed what episodes have been aired since the last time you opened up the app. Like when I open up SeriesFinale on 13 august, I close it. on 14 august Show x ep y get aired and when I open up SeriesFinale on 15 august it could show that Show x ep y had been aired and you could mark it if you have it watched.

I don't know if the author reads this forum but I hope so :)

updateeeee!!!
finally, we can remove the "Special" season for each show! i was waiting for that feature for soo long lol. it was kinda annoying. and Portrait Mode is supported now. thanks jrocha, great work :D

This is definitively one of my favorite, must-have app for Maemo... i love it so much, is there any way to port this to Windows by any chance? :S

Re: SeriesFinale - TV episode guide browser by jrocha

Bug or feature? After updating all images were lost and SF had to re-load them which took about an hour.

Despite of that I really like the new features. Deleting complete seasons is really helpful when havin played around with descriptions etc. ;)

One suggestion for sorting the seasons. For people who want to have the special seasons displayed it might be annoying seeing them between regular seasons just because first special got added after season X. Could you offer a setting to have special season always listed as first (like season 0) or last (like season 999)?
Thanks!

Last version works fine and new features are really nice, though I still have the same issue with shows not properly shown in main screen.

Why that? Can't add new series anymore. Updating existing series seems to work but when trying to search for new series it hangs and I have to kill it. Running from commandline (just "seriesfinale") doesn't give any additional output. Will try to deinstall and reinstall it, hope that will fix it ....

I just installed for the very first time, but I get the same symptoms.

How do I stop an update without losing everything?

I added a number of shows last night. I clicked update all, and it's been "busy" now for about 9 hours. Not really DL'ing much, just showing busy. My experience in the past is, if I kill it, it will lose the shows I set before the last successful close.

Is there anyway to avoid losing everything?

Anyway to avoid this problem?

Forgot to clear that out: that was related to a (planned) downtime of the tvdb website. Now working again, but still some covers missing even after doing several "update all".

Don't think you can stop update in any way but killing the app. This again might make SeriesFinale forget latest additions, right. This happened to me about two or three times.

My solution: don't add and update series in one go. Best bet would be to first doing an update and afterwards adding new series, which also makes sense in that the newly added series don't need an update right away. Another workaround would be to add new series, close app (to have all series saved), start it again and run the update.

Where would the series be set in a config file now. I don't remember all the ones I put in there. I'd like to capture the file first?

Thanx for the quick answer!

As far as I know, they are just in RAM. SeriesFinale doesn't write changes to disk until the app quits normally. So in your situation you will lose the changes you made during the session if you force-quit the app.

I have noticed after reflashing to PR1.3 that the installation of Series Finale lacks at least two dependecies:
python-dbus
python-osso

I had to install these two packages manually in order to execute this application.

Is this app still being developed/fixed?

I have an issue with it treating missing air dates as "Jan 01". Many unannounced shows show as launched and the list is quite blue. Some are scheduled in June, so it's gonna be a blue highlighted spring.

Re: SeriesFinale - TV episode guide browser by jrocha

Updated to latest version 0.6.6-1. All posters lost after upgrade.

Still see the bug with series named with numbers (i.e. 24) not shown alphabetically in main window, but after some series with name beginning by an "A", and that series do not shown properly (no poster and fonts not in bold).

Weird, it happens sometimes but not always. "24" can appear after or before "Alias"...

New features work great, specially live search, but when changing to portrait a few times there is no checkbox for episodes at the right and couldn't enter the event details.

Re: SeriesFinale - TV episode guide browser by jrocha

Same here, after upgrade all images are deleted. This seems to be by design as there is a message in logfile of application manager:
Code:

Preparing to replace seriesfinale 0.6.5-1 (using .../seriesfinale_0.6.6-1_all.deb) ...
Unpacking replacement seriesfinale ...
Removing images folder: /home/user/.local/share/seriesfinale

After calling "update all" these images are getting fetched again but it takes ages and it's a lot of data to be transferred again. I'm having 51 series listed and I guess it's gonna be more than 30MB of image data! That's about the amount I have for one day in my data plan (1GB/month)

Would be nice if you could change following two things:
* no more pruning of images on upgrade
* moving storage folder to MyDocs or include it in backup

Hey wait, do you mean that all the images are stored in the filesystem instead of MyDocs?

Yes, look at the folder mentioned in appmanager output. It's the same folder after upgrade but while upgrade it's getting purged. :(

x-lette 2011-02-22 12:29

Re: SeriesFinale - TV episode guide browser by jrocha

It just finished downloading all images again: 28MB in 194 image files. :(

x-lette 2011-02-22 12:50

Re: SeriesFinale - TV episode guide browser by jrocha

Had a quick look at the .deb file and at first glance everything looks ok. There is a postrm shell script which includes the lines to delete the images folder. But I wonder why this file is called at upgrade. As far as I know an upgrade is something different from an uninstall-install-path. Maybe some other developer can help out at this point?
But nevertheless it would be better moving the images folder to MyDocs or at least to include it in osso backup and to leave that folder untouched when uninstalling. A message to the user indicating that there are files left could be displayed but usually it's not the developers job to clean up users directory. Debian packages usually leave config files and user generated files untouched when uninstalling so user can decide by himself what to keep and what to delete.

Please change that behaviour!

I have random crashes if update series individually, more than once at the same time. Race condition writing to the database?

Latest update wiped the images again. This time they did not come back even if I updated the shows manually. Is there a fix?

Ohhh, not cool.

Reverted to 0.6.5-1

ETA: Still no luck. 0.6.5-1 still doesn't update images.

On his blog, author says:

  1. Joaquim Rocha Says:
April 13th, 2011 at 4:35 pm Oh… I guess we forgot to add the Conic dependency to our Debian control…
You can download it from here:

Don't think he checks here.

Re: SeriesFinale - TV episode guide browser by jrocha

Hey guys, I'm the author of SF.

Sorry, I'm not getting the updates from this thread...

So, I've just uploaded another package of SF which adds the python-conic dependency. As for the images not being updated, that's really weird but I'll surely take a look at it soon.

The thing is that between work and other projects I don't have much time to work on SF and end up rushing things.

I also take this chance to say that one of the next things I want to work on is to investigate why are the updates and the start up so slow. We might be able to improve somethings here.

Cheers and thanks for reporting the problems.

Re: SeriesFinale - TV episode guide browser by jrocha

Might be the images are currently 'broken' on server. I didn't update to latest version yet and also cannot load any new images. Added three series yesterday and even after restarting application and newly connecting to internet the images didn't load. So I think the error might be on host-side.

Can anyone confirm the images folder gets pruned again with current updated version? I'd like to update but think I'll have to backup images first.

jrocha 2011-04-14 10:31

Re: SeriesFinale - TV episode guide browser by jrocha

It can be. I've got a 302 error when updating SF but I couldn't investigate more...
Maybe it is time to think about showing some feedback with error interpretation.

Hi Joaquim, thanks for this application.

Have you had any time to look into this problem?:
