Re: N900 Problem: SIM Card Not Recognized
Thanks, good to know, i'll bear that in mind in the future. Its moot just now tho as I sent it back today. Fingers crossed that all is well with the replacement. I'm very interested to know why its happening at all in the first place though. Any ideas?

Re: N900 Problem: SIM Card Not Recognized
Hi
Having the same problem as you mate. My story is exactly the same, had the phone since tues, was using it this morning and then suddenly sim card registration failed. with the red line through the sim. Can anyone help |
Re: N900 Problem: SIM Card Not Recognized
Another satisfied user here with the same problems. Considering a total reflash too. Maybe later today.
|
Re: N900 Problem: SIM Card Not Recognized
I've reflashed to no avail, I've had to send it back to the guy who I bought it from, good old ebay. The worst thing is, the phone works perfectly but I just can't get any sort of reception.

Re: N900 Problem: SIM Card Not Recognized
Did you do a flash with the new firmware? I'm doing a flash with the vanilla firmware? That one entirely eraises everything on your N900 after that flash you can do a flash with the latest firmware.
|
Re: N900 Problem: SIM Card Not Recognized
Yes, did it all that, but it didn't resolve the problem. Give it a go and tell me what happens. I'm gonna post this off at 1 so if yours works. I'll give it another go.

Re: N900 Problem: SIM Card Not Recognized
I was one of the original posters here who has been having this problem ever since I got the phone several months back. My wife got hers from Dell, and mine came from Amazon. My wife's N900 never had the problem of the sim card. Only mine does and when that "No Sim" comes on, you have to open and close the keyboard to get it to re-register with the network. That's the temporary fix for now.
Now as for flashing, I flashed twice using NSU and it never helped. In fact, right after I flash the phone and the thing is brand spanking new, I get that "No Sim" like 20 times a day. It's only as time goes on, do I get it less often. And no I haven't installed any repositories anymore and haven't downloaded sh*t anymore cos I'm soo sick of this device. I swear I can rant for days but what's most frustrating is this "No Sim" problem and missing calls and text and calls dropping left and right. Never in my 10 years with T-Mobile did I have dropped calls or no service until this expensive piece of shi*t N900 entered my life. This is why I have it for sale on Craigslist. $450 for anyone who is interested. This is if I don't run over it with my car very soon. |
Re: N900 Problem: SIM Card Not Recognized
Been having this problem for a few weeks now, sometimes its working fine and then some days it decides the sim card wont get recongised!
|
Re: N900 Problem: SIM Card Not Recognized
It has been a week now since I flashed my N900 with the vanilla firmware after that I have flashed it with the latest firmware. Haven't seen the 'no sim-card' symbol since.

Re: N900 Problem: SIM Card Not Recognized
i had the same problem not sim card recognised when i first got the phone i phoned vodafone and they said give a few days for sim card to activate "dont think this is your problem tho". After a reflash you will not recognise your sim card untill the system has been completly updated.

Now i use the first global FW. If i install the second global, the phone will not recognise my mass memory. The first global is the only one that recognise my mass memory. ive flashed even with vanilla emmc and then the last fw. Nothing. |
Re: N900 Problem: SIM Card Not Recognized
I've finally and successfully flashed my firmware using Maemo Flasher. I used a computer with XP instead of Vista which was the culprit of it not working earlier.
I flashed my phone with the latest Global Firmware. I still have the "No Sim Problem" every few minutes or every hour or so. All I do is open and close the keyboard and the Sim Re-registers. I'm thinking maybe I should flash the eMMC as well using Vanilla? I guess I'll try that next time when I'm at my friends house since he has the XP Computer. |
Re: N900 Problem: SIM Card Not Recognized
Wow now I'm having that "No Sim" problem more than ever! Ever since I flashed to Global Firmware, this phone loves to display this "No Sim" everytime the keyboard is opened or closed! I guess flashing will not resolve.
How is Nokia Care handling this issue? Does anyone know? I wonder if they are repairing it by just flashing with the latest USA Firmware (which I know it won't fix the problem) or will they actually exchange my phone out for a new one? |
Re: N900 Problem: SIM Card Not Recognized
hey people,
well i flashed my phone to latest global firmware, then i lost all the pre-loaded software like pictures and ringtones etc.. so then i flashed back to the latest UK firmware, and i now have the sim card unrecognised problem. any ideas? I dont want to go back to the global firmware, cus i quite like the themes and images that are pre loaded.! :(.. EDIT: installed all the firmware updates, latest was 92.7mb, and now everything is working, and even better than before. :) phew!! good luck everyone. |
Re: N900 Problem: SIM Card Not Recognized

Just did some testing to try to better understand what's wrong with some sim cards.
What I found is that, most likely, is not with the card itself but with cell towers or at least something not directly related to my N900. I'm running attached script (which basically tries to read IMSI from inserted SIM), this way I can detect whenever a SIM reading error happens. I did my test on: 1) H3G ITA, 3G connection, home network 2) TIM IT, 2.5G connection, roaming network As far as I was able to see errors are more frequent while on my home network than when the on TIM. Here is a sample result: Code:
101010012032 - ALERT! SIM ERROR! After 2398 seconds. Battery chrg status false <-- I was on TIM before |

Re: N900 Problem: SIM Card Not Recognized
Well, it looks like the error, in my case, is only triggered by two H3G ITA cells towers covering my house. I had no problems, both with H3G and TIM, until when I came back home right now. Strange.

Re: N900 Problem: SIM Card Not Recognized
I use to get this all the time then somebody recommended getting a new simcard. I switched to o2 12 month contract and stopped getting the problem, I think it was because the 2g sim I was using was like years old.
|
Re: N900 Problem: SIM Card Not Recognized
my sim is only 5 months old... never had problems until 4 days
|
Re: N900 Problem: SIM Card Not Recognized
You could try using a different sim for a while, see what happens? If not contact Nokia, I did and they told me to send it to them as soon as possible but I stopped getting the error so it was ok.

the problum is lost IMIE number now you see in SETTINGS "ABOUT PRoduct"you will not find the imie number.simple tape on "SETTINGs" there you will see "ENTER CODE FOR UNLOCKING SIM CARD" thats put your sim pin code or puk code hope that work or try to restore your imie number on your mobileHOPE THAT WORK FOR YOU |
Re: N900 Problem: SIM Card Not Recognized

The issue is not related to a locked sim or wrong PIN. It's a firmware issue. The IMEI is not related to the SIM/uSIM card. The issue is caused/related to not being able to access the card (in fact in my script I try to read IMSI code instead). Most likely there is no relation with your "workaround" since the phone simply re-read the card by itself. |

Re: N900 Problem: SIM Card Not Recognized
I have that problem, too.
I have a sim card (new one!) by O2 Germany - it worked fine the first two days, and now it seems that it is not recognized: - The N900 asks for the PIN at startup - The phone does not connect to O2 (- Offline mode is diabled, of course) When I put in an T-Mobile Germany sim card (an older one which does not support 3G), 2G connections seem to work. So, is this a firmware issue? And when does the new firmware come out? |

Re: N900 Problem: SIM Card Not Recognized
Hi guys
I wonder if you can help me as it seems I have a very similar problem. This has nothing to do with the last firmware update as about 7 hours before I got pr1.2 this issue started and has persisted into the new update. I was on a call and it dropped it. I looked at the phone and it had the “no simcard” symbol up. The weird thing was it then powered down and would not start up again unless I put it on charge. Odd as the battery was completely full. Anyway it had me beat. Today though I think I am closer to the problem. I noticed the no simcard symbol come up while just mucking about with my desktops and so switched it manually from 3g to gsm. Bang up comes the symbol and off goes the N900. Same thing required to get it going again. I put it back on 3G and it is good as gold. I have tried 2 other simcards and mine in other phones in all modes and they are fine and when in my phone give the same result. Any ideas? Send it back time? The problem is I am in NZ and so am probably not covered by warranty. Luckily the shop I got it from has a year’s return to base warranty. Thanks in advance P.S I have had a really good look around here and the net and can't seem to find the same issue P.P.S And now it shuts down if I try and establish a 3G data connection. I did a fresh reflash yesterday by the way. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |

I flashed my n900 but sim card not recognized.then i used apt-get dist-upgraed then my problem was solved.

Re: N900 Problem: SIM Card Not Recognized
**Update ** between the battery and back plastic plate of phone seems to need to be the target of most of your paper squares.
Ok i have solved this problem. One the second or third day of having my n900 i dropped it and have had the infamous no sim error on and off since. After trying everything a few humble squares of thin magazine cover have solved my problem. By placing cut squares of paper between the sim and battery and battery and back case the problem has been resolved. I know this sounds stupid but without the paper cut outs the sim error returns. My phone would often not start and would continue in a boot cycle this has also been fixed. just keep adding slices of paper until problem solved. I hope this helps others as much as it helped me. |
