Re: N900 Camera Images Hazy
If that's really ANY condition, you are either not using the camera right (like not focusing), or you have a faulty unit. Take a look at this thread as a reference to what the N900 main camera can do.

Re: N900 Camera Images Hazy
i have no problem at all with the n900 cam in any light condition a little tweak with the iso and exposure and i'm good to go
what i would love to see if its not some where in the forums tool/app for video editing options |

Incredibly it appears that a Brainstorm may be necessary to bring this design flaw to Nokias attention - yet another example of a one suggestion no-brainer Brainstorm. |
Re: N900 Camera Images Hazy
Curious.
There seems to be two groups of N900 owners; some who are having problems (and at times lots of problems...), and some who seem to have no (or insignificant) problems at all. I couldn't replicate this problem, no matter what. All values at their default, with cover on, various lighting and proximity situations and greased lens as someone mentioned. The conspiracy thickens.... |
Re: N900 Camera Images Hazy
Like Christexaport, I tried covering the chrome with permanent magic marker to see what effect it would have. The picture quality improved dramatically. The white haze problem improved significantly. This result implies that the chrome is partially, if not wholly, responsible for the problem. So, Nokia needs to:
1) Redesign the removable back of the phone so there is no chrome trim near the flash or camera lense. 2) Provide the new back, free of charge, to the current owners of N900s. Here are some pictures comparing the unaltered N900, N85 8MP, and blackened trim N900. http://picasaweb.google.com/drew.fre...eat=directlink |
Re: N900 Camera Images Hazy
I just took 200 pictures at a wedding. I'm so embarresed and pissed off that there was maybe 'normal' 3 or 4 pictures that didn't have something wrong with it. The lighting was perfect, because it took the pictures next to an extremely experienced professional cameraman. My N95 8GB took much better pictures..

Re: N900 Camera Images Hazy
I'm glad I took the time to read this thread. I have been plagued with the "bluish upper-right corner haze" as well, on all my flash photos. It's quite disgusting, if you ask me - I feel like I'm using my old instamatic from the late 1970's with the square, rotating, dsposable flashbulbs.
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedi...Instamatic.jpg I'm shocked to learn that the chrome bezel is the culprit - who would put shiny chrome around a flash, to reflect and diperse light in every direction, including back into the lens?!?! What genius was responsible for this design flaw, I wonder. I really do like my N900 but this is inexcusable. I am in favor of the proposal mentioned in this thread - a total back-cover replacement from Nokia for all interested parties, at no cost to owners of the N900. (Someone make a poll, I have no idea how to do that but I would be interested to see the results). And they can upgrade that ridiculous, flimsy plastic kickstand while they're at it! I'm just counting the days until that impossibly fragile piece of plastic snaps off. Come on, Nokia, do the hardware justice, for crying out loud! |
Re: N900 Camera Images Hazy
We need to get a letter out to Nokia and a letter out to the bloggers.
I'll write up a draft tomorrow and post it here, I'm not much of a writer, but at least it will be a start. That bluish haze in the top corner is really unacceptable and a huge let down. I love Nokia, but they constantly let me down. |

Re: N900 Camera Images Hazy
Don't use auto ISO. When shooting nightshots or indoors, use ISO100 and increase exposure. Whenever possible, lean (the camera) on to something. Don't push the camera button, squeeze. Breathing techniques in the next chapter :D
As for the previous remarks... tools have advantages and disadvantages. The interfering backplate is a disadvantage. Learn to work around it (it's always easier to whineblog about a problem than solve it) or don't use the tool if it causes you grief. As easy as that. |

i'm not somebody who's easily complaining about something... i wouldn't complain if the device was 200€ cheaper... but this product is hidh-end... and it's just ridiculous that such a dumb design failure leaves a bitter taste on one of the most important functionalities of this phone... |
Re: N900 Camera Images Hazy
What I'm saying is that you can remedy the thing with a black marker or conscious use of the flash. Is it an 'oops' in this class of a device ? Yep (an even bigger oops is the N97 lens scratch, but I digress). Can it be remedied trivially (i.e. black marker) ? Yep. Is this really worth fighting about ? Put pressure on Nokia where there is something you CAN'T fix, like opensourcing the closed components, etc, but loosing sleep over things like this... IMHO it's just a waste of efforts.

Re: N900 Camera Images Hazy
It's not the bezel that is the main problem. It's the blue slider plastics, which is normally not visible when the slider is closed. That's why the haze is always so much more prominent on the RIGHT side of the image.
|
Re: N900 Camera Images Hazy
ok... you're right... the turquoise slider edge is mostly responsible for that haze... the chrome part hardly affects the picture.

For Nokia to continue to pump out devices with an obviously defective/deficient/flawed design is irresponsible and will reflect badly (pardon the pun) on Nokia and may lead to the N900 gaining a reputation of having a poor camera (which to be honest, is absolutely true in terms of the out-of-the-box experience and will remain so for anyone who doesn't read this forum). Going slightly OT, there is clearly a problem with Nokia design and/or QA of recent devices if this SNAFU and the N97 lens cover are anything to go by - I have to assume they were both thoroughly tested, but when such obvious flaws make it through to production you do have to wonder what the hell is going on. |

Re: N900 Camera Images Hazy
I posted this in the poll thread and I'll post it here too.
It's just a line, as easy as pie and you don't even see it when the cover is closed. Also the chrome reflection is insignificant, compared to the strength of the flash, that spreads uniformly and outshines the reflection. And if you guys wouldn't have told me I could have lived happily without the line ever after. http://talk.maemo.org/attachment.php...1&d=1264455371 Sorry for the low quality but N900 happens to be my main camera. ...so much noise for a big nothing... |

Here are the before and after shots I took, following the idea in comment 101 ( http://talk.maemo.org/showpost.php?p...&postcount=101 ) to just put permanent marker along the side of the slider nearest the lens.
Easy enough to do with the back off, I went along several times to make it nice and thick. The top two are off the footpath in the dark, the latter two of the lounge floor under indoor lights. In both, top picture is before the marker pen, and you can see the blue haze, as well as the improvement ! |
Re: N900 Camera Images Hazy
I guess I will be doing the same then, that looks like a huge improvement.
|
Re: N900 Camera Images Hazy
Glad I helped out ;)
|
Re: N900 Camera Images Hazy
the hazy shot are really bothering me aswell... maybe some official or 3th party covers could reduce hazy shot.
I was trying to find a topic like this the see if other people had the same problem, so somewhat I'm relieved but on the other side disapointed too since the camera isn't working like it should.. |
Re: N900 Camera Images Hazy
I just did the black permanent marker on the blue trick and it completely fixed it. Did about 4 or 5 coats. Thanks so much, this makes my camera usable again.

Re: N900 Camera Images Hazy
I agree, nokia aren't going to fix something as small as this, i'm not feeling this affects my picture quality so much, maybe because i have a thick leather case with a cutout around the camera, but if i run into the problem, i will just use masking tape to null the lighting instead of reflect it. :)
|
Re: N900 Camera Images Hazy
I hadn't ever noticed the issue since I rarely ever take photos with flash. Glad the fix is so simple. I can't say I'm not surprised about the issue existing.
