Re: What have been your 'wow' moments with the N900 so far?
Lots and lots of positive observations, but the ones that made me most happy and wow-ish:
- Overall responsiveness and stability - Smoothly working flash websites - Multitasking, it's just ridiculous. Completely smooth sailing with an unnecessary number of heavy apps on the background - 3D-accelerated apps - Ease of application dl & install - Sync with work computer (just plug it in) - Contact info and profile pics automatically from Facebook (Hermes) - Convenience in SMS messaging (compared to previous Nokias) - Getting to IRC with a single poke at the screen (open terminal, connect, login and resume screen) - UR-Quan masters. :p |
Re: What have been your 'wow' moments with the N900 so far?
Everything. Received it yesterday and it's the best device I've ever had.

Re: What have been your 'wow' moments with the N900 so far?
Have you guys ever been on that website surfthechannel.com with links that show live sports. Well was at a Christmas party and somebody wanted to watch a basketball game. I told them about the phone and they directed me to this website to see if it would play. Well guess what there was a wifi connection and it was playing the game live on my phone. Let's just say everyone in the room said "WOW"

Re: What have been your 'wow' moments with the N900 so far?
Cam recorder
Emulators SCUMMVM FM radio/transmitter Remote desktop Remote controller Pidgen a lot more.... |
Re: What have been your 'wow' moments with the N900 so far?
One of my "wow" moments was discovering that the N900 can access my shared media libraries and play my downloaded Photoshop User TV episodes over the WLAN. Nice!
Cheers! Brad |
Re: What have been your 'wow' moments with the N900 so far?
Another "wow" moment was hot-syncing over 3000 contacts and several hundred appointments, notes and tasks from Outlook 2007 to the N900 using the Nokia PC Suite.
A related "wow" moment is how wonderfully robust is the Bluetooth connection to my laptop. I have it set to hot-sync every 15 minutes when there is a connection. So by just walking into my studio, the N900 / laptop will automatically hot-sync without no intervention. Very nice! It hasn't been this good since my Palm Pilot packed it in. No other cell phone that I have had comes anywhere close to the N900 as a portable business tool. And I look forward to continued improvements in this area. Cheers! Brad |
Re: What have been your 'wow' moments with the N900 so far?
just the device in totality....
no one feature stands out....just... everything!!! |

The n900 picked my UPnP LaCie drive from out of the box as well. I was able to stream mp3 but no other video files (.mpg, .mpg2, etc...) Suddenly; the n900 can no longer pick the Music up from the drive!? I can see the drive; browse to it; but none of the files are accessible. Any thoughts?? Thanks! |
Re: What have been your 'wow' moments with the N900 so far?
I am not sure why people were apprehensive on the touch screen..."not like the iPhone, blah blah..." it is great!
The n900 is very response. The build quality I feel is excellent! Not sure if this is the case with other phones; but picking up UPnP drive was a HUGE surprise. I did not know about the FM Transmitter until 1 day before I got the phone! |
Re: What have been your 'wow' moments with the N900 so far?
1. wow: when I saw it's advertisement on the internet
2. wow: when I got it 3. wow: when I saw it's "lovely" battery life (!) |

always been wow!!!

Re: What have been your 'wow' moments with the N900 so far?
Mine was probably updating hermes against my Facebook page. Altho every time i update I end up with 2 of certain people again!
Also petrovich - seemlessly uploads pics to my facebook page very quickly. Awesome. There is a lot of clunkyness at the mo and people that say its perfect are clearly on drugs or something...;) however I do see a lot of potential but Nokia need to get it right with the next firmware. Paul |
Re: What have been your 'wow' moments with the N900 so far?
honest wow moment. When I click on tiny little links in the browser and they work.
|
Re: What have been your 'wow' moments with the N900 so far?
mine will be a bit silly but a definite wow was when I saw bounce for the first time! :D
the gfx are just amazing comparing to anything else of that size |
Re: What have been your 'wow' moments with the N900 so far?
It's almost full linux OS, use cron you can set your phone to do stuff at specific times of the day/week etc.
N900 is a step up from the N810 for me. SSH into my PC and shut it down from downstairs, brilliant. |
Re: What have been your 'wow' moments with the N900 so far?
reacent wow was, i was in a club with a friend having just taken a photo of him and a girl, he wanted me to bluetooth it to his awefull phone, so i did. of course his phone coudlnt display it, i guessed the res was too high, so i opened up the photo hit edit, reduced the size to 25% saved the picture as a seperate file and wizzed it over to him again, bingo worked striaght away for him
i was very impressed |
Re: What have been your 'wow' moments with the N900 so far?

Re: What have been your 'wow' moments with the N900 so far?
I'm sure its been mentioned before, but simply the email. I have it connected to my IMAP server and thus far its been flawless. I've been able to read e-mails, reply and everything that I could from a regular e-mail client. I've had the other Nokia N series maemo devices and none ever worked as well as this. I feel like in one leap I bounded past all the Blackberries and iPhones and have a real phone that works and does everything I want.
The camera is also pretty amazing. Some people have commented how the phone doesn't do MMS. I simply took a picture, popped up an e-mail to my contact, attached the picture and off it went. I saw it still sitting in my outbox so I just put the phone down and went on to other stuff. Sure enough after about 10 mins (the phone is on AT&T, no 3G) the picture had been sent. With each new app that comes out for the phone I'm more amazed. Right now its already everything I need (ok, maybe some better GPS maps, but maemo-mapper will be out of alpha soon I'm sure!) and having new apps just makes it all the more enhanced! |
Re: What have been your 'wow' moments with the N900 so far?
Getting Truecrypt to read a NTFS container file on a CIFS (Samba) server. ;-)
Though VNC to another computer was very cool. Now all I need to do is get KeepassX working, and I'll be a happy camper. Nathan |

Re: What have been your 'wow' moments with the N900 so far?
The very first thing I've done to my N900 was installing the openssh server and setting 'authorized_keys'. No need to set up a silly and slow bluetooth connection on my laptop (or every computer I wish to transfer files from) anymore. Simply scp'ed my files to the N900 -> wow.

I am used to carry around two devices, a phone and the N800. This is OK. But to carry two phones because one lacks MMS, is just too stupid. Anyway, the largest wow-factor is still the reboot issue (a big negative WOW). But Nokia seems to be handling this in a exemplary manner, and this is a smallish wow-factor on the positive side. On the positive side, the wow factor is the browser, and the general ease of use. Also the multitasking is a big WOW, especially the way it is implemented in the UI. This is the way all smartphones should be. |

My wow moment: I've just installed mplayer and have subtitles support, and play my tv shows smoothly, with all the keyboard shortcuts I was used to when I used ubuntu on my computer.
Now I can go to my girlfriend's home with the N900 full of movies, plug it on her TV, and not be bored :) |
Re: What have been your 'wow' moments with the N900 so far?
When I looked up a business on Maps and it gave me directions and a button to call them!

Re: What have been your 'wow' moments with the N900 so far?
I come from a iPhone 3G, the first wow was the screen quality of the N900.
Its just so much more crisp and clear than the iPhone display. The second wow, the battery. In comparison to the iPhone. The third and for me; most important wow (can you even say that :P ) - the Maemo system. This is just fantastic, compared to the os 3.x of the iPhone. And of course the possibilities of multitasking on the phone, the display, the browser - there are just so many nice things about this device. |
Re: What have been your 'wow' moments with the N900 so far?
first days "wow"-s:
"wow" is heavy "wow" contacts are messed up "wow" sip is not working as it should "wow" phone is difficult to use |

My usage scenario is, surfing, writing messages, listening to music (that stuff I could'n even do on the Iphone) etc. etc. I dont have alot of widgets on the desktops and such, and I'm mostly using the 3G connection instead of WIFI. The iphone, I could get 2 days out of, the most. The N900 gives me about 2½ days heavy usage. So it was a wow to me that it would be so nice to me, in terms of battery life :-) - when I expected the worst! |
