Re: [Maemo 5] LED Flashlight / Torch Application?

The latest version of this app really suck hard when it comes to taking video and trying to enable the flash at the same time. The Camera won't let the flashlight enable and once you trying to do that, the camera resolution compressed and you see people like the lord of the ring half length hobbits.

Everthing look like shorten lol. This bug need to be report.....

Many thanks

Bump, please help. Video record no longer works with flash light on. The new version also requires another step... I use to just open the camera lens and turn on flash light but now I have to also make sure I'm not in the camera app for it to work.

dude! read the previous few pages. the solution is to uninstall the version you got and install the older version back. version 0.2.0 will work. version 3 won't work.

download the flashlight below and follow the terminal commands

to install it you need to be as root. install yhe little app to enable root. and then type;

sudo gainroot

$: dpkg -i directoryOfYourFILE/yourFile.deb

mine is:
dpkg -i /media/mmc1/flashlight.deb

Is there a way to access flashlight without the annoying camera app popping up? I have to close the camera first...annoying

Re: [Maemo 5] LED Flashlight / Torch Application?

Thanks for this great app. I have a suggestion to simplify the step turning on the flash light.

When the lens cover is opened, is possible to show a screen that let me to select whether to use the camera or the flash? I have to agree currently the extra step to close the camera application is indeed annoying.

I agree, this would be the best way. How do we contact the developer of this app?

should the future update also include the flashlight option during the shooting a vid?

The older version included it and I for one, would like to see it back.

click on the maintainer-name-link.
then log into garage.
in the garage-page there should be the email of the maintainer. :)

Hello, sorry if I am bothering you but I am a proud user of your Flashlight application on the n900 and have a request/suggestion.

To use Flashlight, I have to flip my camera lens cover open but when I do this, the camera application opens. This is extremely annoying, having to wait for the camera application to load only to then close it seconds later. Only then can I access the statusbar and select Flashlight.

Wouldn't it be better if a dialog box pops up asking what application you want opened when the lens cover is flipped open? (either camera or Flashlight) This would minimise the steps a user has to take to launch Flashlight and also completely remove the need to place the application on the statusbar.

I really hope you can update your already brilliant app with this suggestion and i'm not the only one who likes this idea.

Thanks for reading!

Re: [Maemo 5] LED Flashlight / Torch Application?

Erm, rmoravcik has no control over what happens when the lens cover is flipped open. The closed-source Camera application - running in the background - is programmed to listen to the signal that is emitted upon the event of the cover being opened. There's dodgy workarounds scattered around on this forum to make the Camera application not able to listen to these events but, being dodgy, I'd love to see them integrated into the applet. :)

Best bet is to vote here: http://maemo.org/community/brainstor...vation_choice/

To: peacekeper

Open camera cover, close the camera application, then click on the status bar and scroll until you see the Flashlight status. You can change it from "Off" to "On" and vice versa.

Re: [Maemo 5] LED Flashlight / Torch Application?

cant remember the thread, but someone was making an app to customize the camera lens actions, IE when you open lens, asks you if you want to use camera/flashlight/other...... I remember they said wait for pr1.2, well I have the "RC" so would this work and is it available?????

thanks!

I'm working on such thing, but I didn't release anything yet :-) Maybe someone else is doing the same thing too.

Using my launcher you will be able to redefine preferred application (eg. opening cover will start different application then camera app) or simple application selector dialog will show up or simply nothing happen when you open lens cover.

I´m also willing to try.

I would like to start flashlight when open the lens cover.
a "hard" push on the camera button should start the camera application.

I have flashlight installed, and its been working perfectly for a while... however I now can no longer find it in the status menu i've tried reinstalling but with out any success.

My 2g/3g/Dual applet in the status menu has also disapeered, is there anything that could cause status menu to stop functioning properly?

grog 2010-07-28 15:10

Re: [Maemo 5] LED Flashlight / Torch Application?

@kevinm2k: have you tried scrolling down in the status menu drop down? Maybe you've installed other apps that have pushed those two apps down? HTH

Here too flashlight is gone; it shows as installed in the app manager, rebooting or reinstalling didn't work... perhaps you can make the icon to install in the normal menu or so?

Re: [Maemo 5] LED Flashlight / Torch Application?

stupid, stupid, I completely forgot to open the lens cover and close the camera application.
Still, it would be nice if the icon would be visible at all times and display a text when the camera cover is closed.

is the flashlight add on compatible with this? it doesnt seem to work for me. the add on allows holding the lock button and opening the lens cover to activate flashlight.

I second this question. I cannot get the addon to work. Though having to uninstall the original flashlight application would defeat the purpose.

Great app! Does anybody know for how long you can use the torch before the battery runs out?

I'd imagine if you have the torch on long enough to drain a fully charged battery you're more likely to burn out the LEDs

anybody knows how to copy the flashlight icon to the desktop?? do i need to edit the hildon files? since its a bit cumbersome to flip the lens cover the touch the upper side for the drop down menu

I was using it around 4 hours. I lost in mountains and sun goes down and my n900 was only source of light i had.
It could last longer i had previously used gps, sending texts and making photo.

It's wise to turn it of from time to time to not burn your led.
