So I do have lirc installed and i do see the lirc file in program manager. I just don't know why it's not starting.

Weird, check out /etc/sudoers file, do you have 3 lines for lirc there ? I dont remember now what theyre supposed.

YES 3 lines:

/etc/init.d/lirc reload
/ect/init.d/lirc start
/ect/init.d/lirc stop

Re: QtIrreco for N900

sorry if this has been asked already but can one pull the infrared code made by the harmony remote and use them on this app. That would be awesome. Harmony device have a lot of devices in its database, many inputted by users (such as myself). Has anyone look into this?

Re: QtIrreco for N900

Finally got it working now. I had to go to Xterminal to start Lirc and restart Qtirreco. That seems to do the trick. I knew all along that the IR isn't working. Also add the same .conf file in Device folder in lirc.conf as well.

Re: QtIrreco for N900

Hey guys I just kinda remembered that my laptop has an IR port on it :D

So that means there is good hope I can record my remotes commands as none of my devices are in the database and nothing already in there is compatible.

Thing is I am a linux noob and my laptop is dual boot Vista & Win 7 x64

Is there a program for windows that can do the recording or do I have to use linux? If linux is the only option would a simple linux live CD work?

I am in exactly the same boat as the last caller - and I would love to have the n900 as my remote control

So how do I record IR codes on a PC laptop?

nirpe 2010-01-27 08:38

Re: QtIrreco for N900

Useful video for recording own remote:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SqCW-DXdu2Q

Then you need to copy that file which you record to /home/user/MyDocs/qtirreco/Devices and add also a line to /etc/lircd.conf for that file.

Re: QtIrreco for N900

Cool application!

I found both of the remotes I needed and now working good. Now to the details:
  • The program is slow to start. Plus when opening, after a few seconds the Qtirreco window closes, so I thought it crashed and managed to run it again (getting 2 instances)
  • The images. I'm sure somehow it is possible to improve the buttons effect. Right now the device thinks it should move the images, what clearly is not the case (from this side old irreco was better).
  • Background glitch. For some reason, the application did not want to store my background selection. Not sure but for the last few re-runs, there is no problem
  • One more tip. Would be great if a line would be added to the first post saying : "People look up your remote name and not device name ;)" I know it is sad, but I managed to waste quite some hours on that (and I tend to think that I'm not the only one who did/will make this mistake)

One more thing. I uploaded a remote, but the wrong one. How can I delete or modify it?

Nice points there, Ive seen that in your very first launch of the program lirc is not working along the software but after that no problems. Sometimes background selection is not saved to remote file, still figuring out that.. This software was started with N810 and older Qt version and that moving image (drag and drop) worked fine so I'm still thinking that its going to get fine later :D

If you tell me some details of the remote you uploaded I can delete it from the database.

Re: QtIrreco for N900

Ok the Uploaded remote: Amplifier - Onkyo - RC-295S - Meelis.

Right now I keep Qtirreco running all the time, so startup is not an issue for me ;). Tho from the same issue, Selecting Remote could be faster :).

I'm sure you guys will figure something out. Have fun!

Have you tried if it crashes with every other remote too? And whats the name of the remote which makes it crash, there might be again one different kind of lirc-file which is not read right and program crashes.

Re: QtIrreco for N900

Hi guys, this is my very first post here. I got some problems with qtirreco. The application seems not to send any IR signal at all as i could see pointing the IR port to a camera. At first i thought the lircd daemon wasn't started, so i started it manually and after i entered
Code:

ps auwx | grep lirc
i could see the entry
Code:

/usr/sbin/lircd --device=/dev/lirc0 --listen=8765
, so the daemon is running. Also my lircd.conf file is written properly, but when i select a command with qtirreco no signal seems to be emitted. When i run
Code:

irsend SEND_START X3 1
i can see the trasmitter is working. So, in your opinion, what should be the problem with Qtirreco?

pernacentus, I have no idea :(

Re: QtIrreco for N900

I have the same problem as pernacentus.

- qtirreco starts/stops lirc correctly
- qtirreco does not add confs to /etc/lircd.conf
- manual adding confs and "irsend START_SEND" works
- qtirreco still not working (no signals sending)

Is there another qtirreco related conf file we must add the remote manually?

Okay I tested adding remote manually. First I copied the remote config file which has all the IR codes for remote. I copied the file to /home/user/MyDocs/qtirreco/Devices/

Then added this line to /etc/lircd.conf:

include "/home/user/MyDocs/qtirreco/Devices/15PF4121"

Then I added a button and tested. Didn't work but after booting software it worked. Ive noticed this before, but still hasn't figured it out why you need to boot after that operation. If youre going to add your own remote and then uploading the software, you will also need to add line to /home/user/MyDocs/qtirreco/lircpaths.conf file like following line here:

15PF4121 p-r/philips/15PF4121

So in this case my remote config file is named 15PF4121.

It would probably be enough to just restart the lircd:
sudo /etc/init.d/lirc restart

Check out the LIRC section of the Irreco docs for some interesting reads.

Do you mean rebooting the device? Did not help. Also, as qtirreco starts and stops lircd, there should be no need to manually restart it. I don't know what's wrong with my qtirreco, somehow it does not interact with lircd correctly. As I said, I can send commands manually to lircd and the transmitter works, but no signals from qtirreco. Is it normal that you cannot configure lirc form inside qtirreco? In irreco you could configure port an host.

Lirc listens messages sent to localhost using port 8765 and QtIrreco uses socket to send messages to that port. With version 2.2 I fixed that problem where i needed to reboot software, not device.

HI All this is a great app.

What do we do if we can't find the TV or what ever it is that we looking for?

How do we create a brand new one?

Also do you know if this will work for WinTV USB sticks?

We need preciser terminology to solve this :D
Inside QTIrreco, you can either download a QTIrreco-Remote (an immediately usable Remote control, with buttons placed and actions assigned, but only working with QTIrreco) or a LIRC-remote config file (which describes the possible actions and IR codes emitted by an IR control device and is the building block to build a QTIrreco-Remote)).
From the former, only very few are yet available. It up to us as users to create such Remotes and upload them to the QTIrreco-Server.
Of the latter, there is a large database available, built over the years by the linux LIRC community. It is also available through the QTIrreco app when you want to prepare a new QTIrreco-Remote (the base config you need). If your remote control is not in there, you need to have LIRC or WinLIRC installed on your PC with a IR receiver, then train/learn the codes, safe them in a config, and upload them to that database.

(BTW: Did someone ever find a way to convert the available Philips Pronto database to the lirc format?)

You might try to work with the Hauppauge/WinTV-HVR_900
http://lirc.sourceforge.net/remotes/.../WinTV-HVR_900
It's important to know the exact manufacturer and product name.

Thanks for the replies above guys :-)

I'll check my exact modle and everything for the WINTV.

for the other remote I've tried download and creating a new one but looks like my remote/modle has not been found yet.

Samsung TV Model Number: LE32B530PTW
The remote control code: BN59-00863A

any help would be great :-)

nirpe, thanks for information and great application.

I already successfully enabled few remotes, but I have problem with Philips RC 4302, where IR transmission does not work. I noticed that this remote uses some RAW codes (I don't understand quite much), which is obviously somehow different from other working remotes. Could be problem in these RAW codes?

stobbsc, why don't you try remote BN59-00937A. It's quite similar and could work.
I have Samsung monitor/TV and I loaded similar remote, because mine is not in database, which works great.

Sorry for butting in. I have tried, for weeks now, installing the QTIrreco but somehow it is looking for lirc installation. I tried the suggested install steps, e.g. /etc/init.d/lirc start, but lirc is not found. I do not know where to get lirc files and install them. Can someone direct me to it? A link will be helpful and greatly appreciated. Thanks.

someone more into linux may correct me, but I think qtirreco has dependencies to lirc. So normaly you install it out of a repository, lirc gets installed too. install rootsh if you haven't, open xterminal, get root "sudo gainroot", run "apt-get update". that should cofrrect missing dependencies.

I tried that but somehow the install fails looking for LIRC. I do not think LIRC comes with QTIrreco package.
