This works out at $519 / €399 so still pretty expensive when compared to the $400 in US but no doubt due to the exceptionally good GBP/USD exchange rate. Can't really complain too much when the new device is costing only £24 more than the old one! |
Re: The Nokia N800?
Just posted order for Norway. Price in shopping cart: €335. But that is without VAT (Norway -> outside EU).
BTW, link to use for shopping (know it is further back, but maybe some others are to lazy): |

Cheapest I found online for a 8GB SD = $99. I'll just wait until someone on here confirm that the N800 will accept this.

Re: The Nokia N800?
Can anybody tell me what the battery life is of the new N800?
Nokia normally does a good job at that, so it probably won't be that different from the 770, but I'd like to know for sure. Furthermore were is this new tablet made? I read that the prototype was made in Korea, is the final one also? How is the stability? I hated the crashes of the 770, and I hope it is ironed out in the new OS. What IS running on this OS? Internet Tablet 2007? Will it also be available for the Nokia 770? That would we helpful for me in order to test stability. But Nokia doesn't have a very good track record when it comes to long term support, so I wouldn't at all be surprised if the new OS would be N800 only. THAT would suck, especially if they ended support and OS updates for the 770 from now on. That would also make me think twice about geting a N800. A product that has 14 months of support from Nokia is rather expensive at 400 euros. But Nokia also does that with their Symbian phones. A lot of/most software that is developed for the latest S60 third edition does not work on second or first edition, and there is no update for the OS on the phones. I really hope Nokia changes its ways on the Tablets. So it pretty much comes down to the new OS. They should release the update for the 770. And after I installed it on the 770 and concluded that it is finally stable, than I'll buy a new N800 for myself and recommend all of my friend to get one as well. |
Re: The Nokia N800?
It runs 2007 software.

Re: The Nokia N800?
from http://maemo.org/downloads/releases.html:
You cannot flash your old Nokia 770 device with the new OS 2007 Edition. More details available from maemo 2.1 and 3.0 compatibility page. hmmm... |
Re: The Nokia N800?
found on the maemo.org site some interesting info on the N800 in their FAQ
One tidbit The cpu is a TI omap2420 processor running at 330mhz here is the link to an explanation of it's processor http://dspvillage.ti.com/pdfs/omap2architecture.pdf This is one nice chip and we are getting the deluxe version with enhanced video capabilities. SWEET! |

It comes with a wired headset, just like the 770. I can't find anything in the bluetooth settings to indicate it can pair with a BT headset. Unfortunately, I lost my BT headset on friday. I won't know for sure until I find it. |
Re: The Nokia N800?
I just got a N800 from a certain store in Bellevue, WA. At first, they told me they didn't have them in stock. I had them go in back to check if they had just arrived and sure enough they were in the back. The manager told me I couldn't have one for a few days though. I did a little huffing and hawing. On my way out, an employee asked about buying my 770 and we came to terms. I left and thought I would be gone a few days. I got a call back from the employee and he met me in the store with a box, ran me through the checkout and I walked out of the store with my N800 a few days early :)
Best thing so far: - SUPPORTS BLUETOOTH KEYBOARDS OUT OF THE BOX! Worst thing: - The buttons are way too small and feel cheap. The front rocker and tripple button have some play to them. I am pretty upset about this, frankly, as this is a major downgrade from the quality of construction and useability of the 770. I think there is enough new functionality and speed improvements to keep me from returning it, but I am not at all happy. |
Re: The Nokia N800?
for those who are finding difficulty in picking one up, try other salespeople. the salesperson i worked with, didn't mind bending the rules to earn a little commission on the device...
|
Re: The Nokia N800?
i'm not sure if anyone picked up on this, but it looks like the flash player is version 7. with regards to youtube, i noticed that when i loered the video quality and increased the amount of info flash can store on the device, the viideo playback was alot smoother. hope this helps.

Re: The Nokia N800?
Bernard, stop *****ing. ;) Probably it would not work on N770 anyway, and would in any case overwhelm it as Texrat points out.
Ok, the official press release is now out too: www.mobileburn.com www.phonescoop.com ps. that N76 looks weird... but whatever.. if people want Razr clones, no matter how ugly the original was, they shall have them.. lol.. Well, perhaps it looks better once I see it for myself. At least Nokia has packed it with decent features.. but N75 looks still much better to me. |
Re: The Nokia N800?
I've held an early version of the N76... I was impressed.

Re: The Nokia N800?
3 hours of battery life?! they couldn't have put a stronger battery in?

i figure faster cpu + 2 memory slots would eat up a lot of power. besides, shouldn't the battery be beefed up by now anyway?

Re: The Nokia N800?
has anyone been able to make the thinkoutside stowaway bluetooth keyboard work with the N800 OS2007? I can't....
Oh, and as I can readily confirm that gnumeric, mplayer, doom (with cool wads), and abiword all install (mplayer wouldn't play the onboard demo video correctly though), and that I would need to uninstall debconf to make maemomapper work, I think it is safe to say that 2006 N770 users will still be a part of the software base of 2007 N800 programming. And who cares about stupid VGA functionality, anyways?? dcarter |

Re: The Nokia N800?
ARRRRGH!!
I saw the leaked FCC docs but it sounded like the N800 would only be released sometime in 2007, so I bought a 770, barely three weeks ago, thinking that I'd value having the device for the next half a year more than I would value having the latest and greatest, but only in half a year. Plus they started on a marketing drive with ads for the 770! I should have known it for what it was: them trying to clear out their existing stock before launching the new toy. It simply reeks of the ugliest behavior. Not illegal, just unethical. This is so maddening. They couldn't let customers know that they were just about to obsolete the "new" hardware they were buying? That the new OS would not be backwards compatible? That the kinds of applications I really miss on the 770 (skype) would not be made available for the 770? I feel like I bought an expensive tool that nobody will be developing for anymore because the new OS is not backwards / API compatible, and (let's face it) -- nobody develops new toys for the old target. Of course, no mention of trade-up program in sight. I hate it when corporatios pull stunts like this -- I know there are a lot of people for whom $350 is no big deal, but when I plunk that kind of cash down I want to know that I'm getting something with some future development lifetime in it, and not something that is 2 seconds away from obsoletion. I am not about to spend another $400. Just to be clear, it's not that I think the 770 is useless. I love it, with some quirks. I just hate discovering that my machine is EOL two minutes after buying it. I feel like nokia just defecated on me. Even microsoft has trade-up programs when they are about to release new versions of software, where they give you a coupon to get Vista or whatever is the next thing to come out (yeah, I know that it's software vs. hardware, but it's just an example).
