Re: Firefox Browser is out!!!!
Before you test any loading times, remember to purge the whole cache.

Oh well, maybe someone will make an add-on for Fennec that specifically targets the N900's GPS. |

Re: Firefox Browser is out!!!!
In most cases, firefox is much slower, however, there are some sites that microb doesn't work proper but works perfect on firefox.
|
Re: Firefox Browser is out!!!!
in edge network... microB loads faster than fennec....
|
Re: Firefox Browser is out!!!!
Just tested RC1 for about 20 minutes and 3 major things jump out at me immediately.
Also, I see firmware 2.2009.51-1 mentioned a few times in this thread... how do I get that? |

:p Is it not finding things "Near you"? Finds me just fine, but again, the results list is sorely lacking (only 4-5 results, though it seems like the search radius is up to 20miles ). |
Re: Firefox Browser is out!!!!
Well using it isn't helpful since I'm not in TX. I'm in MD like you. =P

:) What about the Location settings for the phone itself? Is GPS all active? |
Re: Firefox Browser is out!!!!
Yup, GPS is active. I've even tried using Fennec when I have Nokia Maps on. It keeps throwing me to Texas. =(

:p I don't know...maybe check your location settings for "Google"? Maybe try to reset that...and/or uninstall that first "location" app? |
Re: Firefox Browser is out!!!!
I've uninstalled geolocation, and I even uninstalled Fennec. No such luck, off to consult Google for this issue. Maybe somebody else has this issue.
It's not just Google. It's Flickr, any site that can find your location. Even Near Me. It's... odd. Can anyone confirm if Fennec even uses the N900's GPS at all? For those of you getting an accurate address are you on WiFi or a cellular data plan? Edit: By default, Firefox uses Google Location Services to determine your location by sending: Quote:

Re: Firefox Browser is out!!!!
a question for the people who tried the beta is it ok for a noob like me to try it or does it have alot of problems?
|
Re: Firefox Browser is out!!!!
So more info.
Seems it only reports me in Texas if I use my home Verizon DSL. At my girlfriend's apartment this weekend I used her Verizon FIOS connection and it correctly put me in MD (not exactly same street but same city). Oddly when using it on TMobile Internet it doesn't seem to work at all. |
Re: Firefox Browser is out!!!!
just downloaded firefox from firefox.com/m in my n810 and loving to have kinetic scrolling and double tap to zoom(discovered so far :)). It takes a little longer than inbuilt browser but reasonable with all those extra features in it. However, though javascript is enabled (according to settings) webpages still says "javascript must be enabled ....." and can't play flash. Am I missing something here? Thanks

Try changing the suplicant server to google's and see if it fixes it? At least that would confirm one of the causes. |
Re: Firefox Browser is out!!!!
I'll go ahead and try but the GPS works normally (with applications that use the GPS in the default browser (with the geolocation add-on like maemaps) and Ovi Maps work fine. Digital camera tagging works fine so it's not the fix acquiring that I'm having problems with. Unless Fennec uses solely that information and nothing about the GPS at all (that tidbit I read about geolocation seems to say Google estimates it based on your wireless router's position).
Edit: Tried it, it made no difference. WiFi (Verizon DSL) still reports Texas. Switching to TMobile internet results it it not being able to find your location (just keeps going and going). How dissapointing. This was one of the things I was looking forward to Fennec. Hopefully it's just an odd bug that will be fixed in a final release. |
Re: Firefox Browser is out!!!!
Well, I'm a total newb when it comes to this kind of thing, so don't mind the noobish question: is it reasonable to expect a speed increase and better response overall with the full version? I know all of you guys are talking about better performance in the final product, but I'm just wondering how much can we really expect, considering the rich set of features and the fact that we get a whole little app catalogue built into the browser with the add-ons? It would be incredibly awesome to have a smooth ride when the real thing comes.
It was mentioned here that some pages that don't load as they should in Micro B work well in Firefox - well, as a big Blizzard fan I was kind of disappointed that their main website doesn't display properly in Micro B (the main section of the site - done in Flash - doesn't load) - I'm happy to report that it works well in FF and that the face of the big SC2 marine greets you in all its.... erm, splendor? :) |
Re: Firefox Browser is out!!!!
Blizzard.com loads fine for me in microb, took a few seconds to render the marine. Flame effects on the diablo 3 page etc all fine.

Too slow, reverting to microB

Re: Firefox Browser is out!!!!
Does turning the disk cache off help anyone with speed in RC1?
See: http://stechz.com/2010/make-your-fennec-rc1-fast-again/ |
Re: Firefox Browser is out!!!!

And, yea, it seems like most of the performance hit occurs during page loading, so I'm surprised that the abovementioned "solution" doesn't work (at least for me) as it is supposed to address that issue. |
Re: Firefox Browser is out!!!!
It does help, at least in the N810

Re: Firefox Browser is out!!!!
installed and tried... what I like most is the Mozilla Weave integration: http://www.flickr.com/photos/gbraad/4234868269/, http://www.flickr.com/photos/gbraad/4235651702/ and http://www.flickr.com/photos/gbraad/4242180327/. In the images it is shown running on the Maemo platform (N810 and screenshot of N900). The result is identical of course. The last image show that tabs are synced across systems. Besides this functionality it does NOT give any benefit above the standard MicroB browser (also Firefox-based). As soon the CouchDB (or Midgard) sync is integrated... or Mozilla Weave gets released as a MicroB extension, I see NO need to have it installed on my device.

Re: Firefox Browser is out!!!!
Edit: never mind :)
|
Re: Firefox Browser is out!!!!
its lot faster than RC1 its just as fast as MicroB now maybe even faster on certain sites.
|
Re: Firefox Browser is out!!!!
still takes too long to load/open the browser itself.
|
Re: Firefox Browser is out!!!!
According to the repository, it does not seem to be rc2. It says version 1.0.0. Works better, but still a bit choppy. A lot faster when the page is loaded. Btw, I am writing this with firefox 1.0.0 at the moment. I have to say that I prefer MicroB more though as this is still a bit slow at times.
